I am looking at buying my first rifle /k/. From posts I've seen it looks like 5.56 is a good starter so tell me if money is no object and living in AL what would be a good rifle that is compatible with a suppressor and have enough space on it to fit lots of fun gizmos?

AR. If you want to run a suppressor, find one with a free-floated barrel and attach an adjustable gas block.

There's no better rifle to customize to your tastes. They are also remarkably comfortable to shoot, coming from someone that generally shoots .30 cal military rifles.

These promises were not delivered once Bushmaster took over production. Look forward to other similar designs, such as the Radom MSBS. They might follow through.

5.56 and money is no object? I would say avoid an AR since the buffer tube in the stock prevents the use of a folding stock, should you ever want one.
There are a lot of semi auto rifles that are chambered in 5.56 that don't use buffer tubes.
Consider a SCAR by FN.
or Sig Sauer Sig556
Beretta ARX 100
to name a few
>>
>>29343487
Do you have an idea of what you want OP? ARs, SCARs, or MR556s if you want to join Kochsuckers United are all good choices. Grab an OSS suppressor if you can (no pun intended). >>29343578
But the Masada is dead anon

More like anything with a piston.

There are folding stocks for DI ARs, but they're not safe to fire while folded.

Personally, I find some of the low profile telescoping AR stocks to be more attractive than a folding stock.

Serious responses are on the house today.

OP here I am looking for something semi automatic, has reasonable range and accuracy while still keeping a "relatively" smaller size, I've been looking at 16 inch barrels, I'm /fit/ so if the system is slightly heavier I don't mind. I was also looking at getting a VCOG for it, is that worth it on a 5.56?
>>
>>29343633
How far do you plan on shooting?
>>
I like the idea of a folding stock but I've found some develop a wobble, what about a stock that just compacts down?
>>
>>29343644
I want to be accurate easily out to 300m and effective out to about 600m though at the longer range I don't mind being a little off, if I wanted the long distance I'll just get a longer rifle with a larger round at a later date.

Yeah, any retractable will do the job. The Magpul CTR is the best entry-level full-size retractable stock on the market.

If you are willing to pay significantly more for the convenience, there are "PDW stocks" which are still somewhat emerging as an AR accessory. I'm not up to date with which one is the best right now, but there are plenty of reviews out there.

Within 300yd or 300m is iron sight territory, but past that is where magnification is worth the weight. You could mount BUIS on a 45 degree offset and a scope up top to handle both.

Variable magnification down to 1x is quite nice, as it allows one to cowitness their irons in the same plane as the scope. The VCOG looks enticing, just make sure it's worthwhile for you. Most optics like that have trouble producing a solid 1x picture.
>>
>>29343655
Trijicon stuff is typically always good, just damn expensive. If you can get a QD mount I'd recommend it. I have a LaRue QD mount on my ACOG and love it.
>>
>>29343698
Also I like the idea of being able to observe at the distance through the optic however I may just pick up a pair of binos
>>
>>29343736
You'll quickly find that a spotting scope is worth the investment. Even a cheap one will do. The optics on your rifle get you in the ballpark, and the spotter/spotting scope gets you on the money.

When I'm shooting without a spotting scope it feels like I'm shooting into the abyss. No sensory confirmation of a hit or where my round impacted.

>>29343962
That's a thought, any recommendations?

FN SCAR

Since you have the money do that. That's what I'd do.

Or just build yourself a really fancy AR 10

but that being said the SCAR 17 is Alton Brown approved

Deep down south haha in Mobile, I recently moved here from the UK so as I'm sure you can imagine going from nogunz to America I'd like to enjoy it.

Gotta second what this anon is saying. I love my buffer tube ar 15, but my sig 556 is so much more satisfying and fun. The fixed buffer tub gets annoying after a time, and the money you spend on a piston driven will be paid back with reliability and the fact that you don't have an obligatory foot-ish long tube behind your gun.

I'm stuck in montgomery ;-;

Where do you go shoot?

Nowhere at the moment I mean my wife's family enjoy blowing apart the woodland where they live but I've not actually been to a proper range yet.

>>29344282
There is an adjustment screw (and a set screw to keep the adjustment screw from moving while firing) in the gas block that adjusts the amount of gas going into the gas system. It allows you to fine tune your rifle to allow just the needed amount of gas into the system, which reduces recoil (not really a problem with .223/556) and unnecessary wear and tear to components that could be caused by too much gas.
>>
>>29344299
Sometimes it's more fun doing it the way your in-laws are.
Welcome to 'murica. Pull up a burger and stay a while.

>There are folding stocks for DI ARs, but they're not safe to fire while folded
here's at least one, but only because it actually replaces the standard buffer tube with a small more efficient one. I like that you can just plug and play it to any standard AR15.
>>
So is a SCAR a good option?
>>
>>29344648
Yes. Lots of accessories available for it, and FN makes a high quality gun.
>>
Any recommended accessories? Not just for this weapon but in general
>>
>>29344299
Ranges are overrated. The WMA ranges are okay tho, due to the lack of range officers like in most ranges. But yea it sounds like your family has the right idea
>>
>>29345189
if a gun is for home defense, a light and/or laser is a good choice.
optics are good.
bipod.
grenade launcher.
rear view mirror.
bicycle bell.
bottle opener.
>>
>>29346164
you sound like you know your stuff. would you happen to know where i can get one of those rail attachments that i can just wave over the card swiper thing at a register instead of using my card?
>>
>>29343487
Scar 16 or KAC sr15. The only piston ar that is robust enough for extended firing and usage is the hk but the non-chrome barrel sucks.
