If it's their first time doing it, there's no need to get all buttmad about it. Just politely tell them why it's bad for the gun and move on with your life.

I go to gun shops, I ask to see revolvers, and I spin the cylinder as fast as I can while looking at the salesman with glee.
Muzzle sweeping can be added for extra effect.

I can still remember the guy's face as he cringed. Looking back on it he handled it better than I would have. I honestly would have lost my shit and cursed out and booted younger self out of the store. He was still pretty cool about the whole thing when he remembered it but damn was I a cunt.

Ask before doing common curticity.

If you knew they didn't know how to handle a revolver and you didn't properly show them first, it was your fault for assuming they could figure it out on their own.
>>
can someone explain how this damages a revolver
>>
>>29341678
It puts excess strain on the crane and cylinder stop.
Doing it once or twice is fine. Doing it repeatedly can cause wear which can cause timing issues.

I know nothing about revolvers. Does closing it by pressing against the cylinder mess it up somehow? Or is it explicitly doing the cowboy thing that damages the revolver?

Know what triggers my autism? Idiots on youtube that just rack the action a bazillion times to clear a gun. (Yes you Hickok 45) And then go on to clarify after that the gun is safe and unloaded to appease the retards who have a heart attack when they have a gun pointed at them through the internet.
>GetOnWithIt.WEBM
Clear it before you start recording, Jesus Christ.
OR, if you feel the need to be sooper safe, open the action once and look in the chamber instead of racking the action for 5 goddamn minutes in hopes that if there was a round in the pipe it got extracted on the 50th time.

Pro fucking tip, if it didn't get extracted the second time you racked it, it probably ain't coming out that way.

The first thing to be called a "pistol" was a musket, it's just the old Russian/Slavic word for gun. Also, a handgun used to be anything that didn't require a wheeled carriage and could be held in the hands.

>>
>>29342144
"Pistol" is a term recognized in contemporary language as a handgun with a chamber integral to the barrel. Pistol is an acceptable term for a "normal" semi automatic handgun. "Revolver" is self evident, and "Handgun" is a general term that encompasses all firearms designed to be operated with one hand.
>>
>>29341113
There's a reason gun stores recommend revolvers for women, it's because the VAST majority of them do not give 2 fucks about how a gun works mechanically, will never ever clean it, and will never take it to the range to function test carry ammo, all of which are absolutely critical to semi auto carry guns.

Even the "gun girls" are guilty of this, Id say one out of maybe 100 self proclaimed "operator" women will do these things and it will only be the bare minimum of it.

So yes snubby revolvers have heavy ass triggers but generally if you load it up, throw it in a purse for a year, get it coated in makeup and bullshit, and never clean it then it will still fire if you pull the trigger.

Recommending semi for women is honestly irresponsible.

Had a similar story to this.

Was at a gun shop when dumbass walked in, and asked the guy at the counter if he could see a Glock.

Dumbass then started making smalltalk with him, while repeatedly dropping/slamming this brand new Glock on the table. Not once, not twice, but five times.

I could seriously see the front counter guy's veins become more pronounced in his neck and forehead before he finally grabbed the gun out of dumbass's hands and shouted at him to get the fuck out.

Pic related is probably what dumbass did to the slide.

Not trying to be condescending, just gonna break it down into a simple explanation.
Over time randomly spinning the cylender will cause it to misalign, think like a wheel not properly mounted on it's axle causing it to wobble. Then you pull the trigger and instead of going down the barrel, the bullet strikes the breech (back of the barrel) and utterly fucks your gun. And possibly your hand. (This is a worst case scenario, damage can be slight to catastrophic if you fire a misaligned revolver depending on how badly misaligned it is, but it might not even fire, or close properly, idk, causes lots of issues)

Also, if slammed shut with enough force you can just straight snap off the front bit of the cylenders "axle" (cylender stop).

Depending on the gun this can be a very expensive repair, but even if its cheap its still the principle of it. You dont break other peoples things.

Think if you had a really nice car you are crazy about and some fat slob thinks hes gonna eat a greasy chilidog in it getting that shit all over the interior then gets out, doors a nearby car, then slams the door as fast as he can.

He may not have caused damage, or if he did its slight and easily fixed, but thats not the point. Its the principle that hes careless with others property that matters.
>>
>>29340591

When my friend got his GP100 he brought it to the range with me and another friend. First thing no-guns friend does is walk up the revolver sitting open on the bench, WHIP it shut and aim it downrange.

GP100 friend takes it from him, gently but firmly and sends him home (wasn't a member anyways)

If you don't know about the gun, don't fuck with it.

>I dont take care of my things, but it is okay because they are made of wood and metal!
Have you ever worked a day in your life or do you just have no concept of how to treat things so that they last longer than 5 years?
>>
Damn I never knew all this about revolvers. I've done it a couple of times at my lgs. Never super hard, just enough for it to close. Hell sometimes it wouldnt close completely but I was still doing it. Learn something everyday
>>
>>29345303
Yeah, the proper way to close a hand-ejector revolver is to push the crane arm into place with your thumb.

Not only can 'cowboying' the crane arm cause it to damage and misalign over time, but on larger bore revolvers, the cylinder can do gradual impact damage to the indexing lug, as those aren't really bigger on huge Magnum revolvers, if you cowboy something like a S&W 500, that big heavy cylinder is gonna maul that lug over time.

Just doing it once to a gun isn't going to hurt it, it's steel after all, but it's not something you should be doing.
>>
>>29345266
Look dipshit guns work by causing explosions inside of them. If bumping or dropping them breaks them, that would be a serious problem. You don't ride the slide back, and you don't delicately insert the magazine, but you also don't go punting it down the range. Most guns are tough. I've dropped my pocketknife more times than I can count, cut a few things that I shouldn't have, and it still works fine. In return, I don't throw it at shit or baton wood with it. It's lasted for 7 years at this point.
>>
>>29345400
>Look dipshit guns work by causing explosions inside of them. If bumping or dropping them breaks them, that would be a serious problem.

You could say the same thing of cars. Try bumping or dropping one.
>>
>>29345430
What the fuck do you think fender-benders are? You see people driving around in dinged up cars all the time. Cars have a shitload more parts than guns as well so it's easier for something to go wrong. Crash your car into a tree and you might break it totally or drive away with a dent.

Good point, now if there is anything in the barrel you can get catastrophic over pressure such as mud or sand.
> If bumping or dropping them breaks them, that would be a serious problem.
Why do you think so much effort has been put into making it so firearms wont discharge when dropped? It isnt because accidental discharges are safe.
>You don't ride the slide back, and you don't delicately insert the magazine, but you also don't go punting it down the range. Most guns are tough.
Okay? Most accessories are not as tough though so why abuse them? Hell why abuse anything that you care about?
>I've dropped my pocketknife more times than I can count, cut a few things that I shouldn't have, and it still works fine. In return, I don't throw it at shit or baton wood with it. It's lasted for 7 years at this point.
>my pocket knife is comparable to a firearm
So your entire argument consists of, it isnt abuse because I say so and its okay though because my pocket knife still totes works seven years later.

Just admit that you never had a worthwhile father figure in your life to teach you how to treat your tools and possessions with respect so that you in turn can give them to your kids without them being worthless piles of bent steel and rust.
>>
>>29341995
Thats not even the scene where he says "that's bait".
>>
>>29345562
Damn right it's not abuse. I clean it, oil it, sharpen it, and don't grossly misuse it. It's not pristine because like any good tool, I use it. It's because I respect it that it still works.

It seems you think that all tools should be locked safely away where they can remain shiny and never used.

You are fucking retarded. I bet you don't dry fire your 1911 because it will damage the firing pin.

I think the best car analogy is starting the engine and going immediately.

I usually give it thirty seconds to let the oil circulate before moving out.

>Strain that firing the gun TOTALLY doesn't put onthose parts
It doesn't, because loading the round absorbs and distributes he force differently.

I bet you clean your glock in the dishwasher.

Why can't I clean my Glock in the dish washer?
>>
>>29351607

Anon, if professionals who have spent their lives personally making 1911s at the highest level all tell me something.

And some random jackoff on a Filipino flipbook discussion website tells me otherwise.

Who do you think I'm going to trust to get it right?
>>
>>29351878
There is no reason that closing on an empty chamber should do significantly more damage than firing the gun.
>>
>>29351960
And I'm telling you, according to all the people who would know best, it does.

And it does so because of the effect stripping the round from the magazine and driving it into the chamber have in dissipating forces as well as the difference in force generated by the spring expanding and contracting normally in comparison to being held in tension by the slidestop.
>>
>>29352059
Stripping a round has almost no affect on slide velocity in a properly functioning gun.

And under recoil the slide moves further back than the slide stop and is therefore being propelled under even more spring pressure.

You just took this at face value and never thought about it didn't you?

Good thing my actual mother is too fat and lazy to do such a thing.

Do you mean 9mm?
Are you seriously bitching that revolvers wont take 9mm?
Jesus fuck I wonder why I ever ask /k/ about anything considering retards like you post here.

>>29349583
It doesnt fuck it up. Doing it too many times or stressing it too hard will fuck it up. Say I showed a semi auto to some retard who has only seen one in the movies and he pulls back the slide WAY too hard. Let him do that a couple of more times and it WILL fuck up your modern pistol.
Same thing goes with any gun, if you fuck with any part too harshly it will fuck it up, regardless of what firearm it is.

tl;dr No gun is invincible and retard proof, but doing complaining about something like this is just babying.

>>29354043
>Do you mean 9mm?

dumbass did you see the pic related?

>Racking multiple times
I do this, I don't have a problem with it. Why? Muscle memory. You can short stroke it once, but probably not three times unless your slide is covered in grease. Better safe than sorry, not like it takes all the time in the world to rack it anyway.

>Clearing the gun and showing the camera
Y'know what? That shit does bother me. If you're on range and have to, that's fine. But don't show it to us, I don't give a shit.

If you're doing a table top review then I'll assume you cleared it. Some people put a disclaimer before the video stating they did to calm the autists, I wish everyone would.
