I'm looking to buy my first handgun, going to use it for home defense and general shooting fun. Maybe take a defensive hangun class with it. Any reason NOT to get a Canik TP9SF? I really don't see why I would pay 150 bucks more for a Glock/M&P/XD when for 350 shipped I can get the canik and it even comes with a decent holster.

I've been researching the Canik TP9 pistols since their humble first production run. Just buy a TP9SF, as a first handgun it will be good for you. Budget for the initial defense ammo and budget for a light, then just buy the pistol.
And welcome to owning a handgun. You will probably save up and buy a better one next year, no matter what you buy right now.

Canik makes some...acceptable CZ clones, but they are still inferior to an actual CZ. They're decent for the money if you can get them around $300.
Turkey has a long and rather good history of making shotguns. They make some really good ones. Unfortunately in the last ~15 years there've been literally hundreds of no-name startup shotgun companies that produce pure-T shit in Turkey.

Having owned a cz and a Canik I can wholeheartedly say you're totally full of shit. While cheaper the Canik is better machined and finished than the CZ and they take many of the same aftermarket components. No reason to own the CZ apart from the logo.
