It's designed to be an AK replacement cartridge (generally, from my view). If an AK (7.62x39) would kill a man/deer, wouldn't then the 6.8 do so as well?
5.56 is illegal to hunt with. Well, most states I've been to, so you to use .308 or another 6.8 tier cartridge (6.5/6.5/270 etc).

Well it's usually more than twice the weight. At about 120 grains, I'm not familiar with the heavier bonded bullets you are referring too.
25 round mags are the same size as 30 round 5.56. Kick is very manageable, follow up shots on running pigs in less than half a second.
But shot placement is always key. I like the extra security that the extra weight offers.

I've pressed that a little as well as going over the various parts differences since he knows fuck all about ARs. I also brought up the idea of perhaps consolidating all the funds into one rifle instead of buying/building two then getting mags ammo and optics for both. Say PTR,FAL, or AR10 variant and gobs of mags or just a SCAR 17 so he never has to think about the gun again.

Thats the thing, if he's going to be chasing ballistics above .50cpr and still wants a full power rifle then he may as well just get a full on battle rifle instead of getting a bolt gun, and a 6.8 plus twice as many mags, optics and even more ammo. This is a guy that has both a compact .40 and a compact .45 and previously had a Winchester 1400 with a 20" barrel before discovering it'll only ever be 2+1.
