This is a hint that what you're trying to do is a bad idea. If you have money for a scope you have money to buy a decent rifle to mount it on. If you don't have money for a decent rifle then you should use the irons and not waste the money on a scope.

Just get a newer rifle. You can get a new Ruger American or a Mossberg Patriot for under $300 if you shop around. You can even get a Patriot with a scope already mounted for right around $300.
