I shot very well with a P226 as well as a 92FS. They both felt very good in the hand, and shooting at 25 yards wasn't as difficult as I though it might be (forgive me, I'm new to this, only rented the two). I did shoot just a bit better with the P226, but in both cases, I still kept all 15 rounds roughly in the center of the target (one of those that tells you what you're doing wrong based on where the shot lands). Also, the safety/decoder on the 92FS tripped me up once or twice, but I imagine I'd get used to that given some more time with it. Didn't try a Glock or M&P, though. Ran outta time and money.

A milspec 1911 is supposed to rattle you inbred hick, it's built for taking abuse and working within a basic standard, not putting holes in holes.
Conversely, the Ruger P80-90 series pistols are also built to take abuse, they're designed as economy pistols, and for about 300 dollars, it's a hell of a good buy if you can't afford anything better.

Glock 17 and Glock 19 are top contenders. Sig 226 and Styer m9 A1 are second tier. Beretta, 1911 clones, XD-m, and M&Ps are third tier.

I have a little over a thousand trouble-free rounds through a vp9. They'll do about the same task, but the vp9 trigger is a good bit nicer and the grip contour is much more comfy for me with the right panels attached.
Mags are kinda expensive but they seem really robust. Also the mags just fly out, which is hilarious and makes reloads a bit easier.
The grip pattern is a little wonky though. They're great when your hands are dry but it's just slick enough with wet hands to move around a bit and act like a cheese grater on your palm after 200 rounds or so. Not fnx bad but not pleasant either. I may look into talon grips.
Overall I highly recommend the vp9, but you can't go wrong either way honestly. It's the Indian, not the arrow.

CZ is about as un-slavshit as slavshit can get. Got an 85B a few months ago and I've put about 2000 rounds through it. Had a grand total of one jam, and that was a minor little thing when I was putting some seriously nasty rounds through it. Really reliable, fires anything you put through it, and cheap for a full size.

P320 has treated me very well. Had one jam in the first mag, running smoothly and reliably since. Feels like I have to give it more oil than I'd expect though (Apparently one suggestion is enough oil on the barrel to leave a fingerprint, for example) but I trust my life to it. Something to note though, the rumors about the slide releasing forward if you slam the mag in hard enough are true. I've had that happen at times.
