a WASR can still be had cheaper than a RAS, and is a far superior rifle.

>inb4 prove it

look at AK operators union torture tests of both rifles

>>29334605

this applies to you as well.

CAI imports and sells solid rifles, the rifles they make 100% in house have a lousy track record, shitty parts that wear out far too quickly, strange malfunctions, crappy build choices - cast trunions most famously.

neat, I seldom see Type 56S posted around.
Got one myself last year. Seems to be the Long Barrel version, but not quite as long pipe as in that photo. Got the Finnish lion marks, meaning it's mid 90s import.

I'd give my right nut for a bayonet that fits this thing. The typical commie-block AK47 and AKM/74 bayos don't sit right on it at all.

Does anyone know a place where to buy furniture and parts for these? Preferably one that ships to EU.

the clamping part that's supposed to pincer around the barrel is super tight, like I really need to use a hammer to bang it off if I get it on it. And even then, the blade tends to lean towards the muzzle.

I've seen very few Type 56 bayos online, but people ask like 150+ bucks for them.

This.

Srsly guise. And Century was selling some hideous fucked-up shit long before they got the brilliant idea to make AKs in-house. 20+ years ago--well, Google for "FAL unibrow receiver" or "Century CETME crooked cocking tube" or "Century MAS49 .308 conversion." They've been selling horrible, unserviceable gun-shaped objects to the unwary for a long, long time now and have earned their reputation. I'm mildly surprised that the WASRs they import are as nice as they are--but Century imports those, they don't build them.

I've not tried one. I hear people say that IF it is properly made, with a large expansion chamber for propellant gases in the rear portion (which not all copies have) it is an excellent, highly efficient muzzle brake. I've heard that the Tantal brakes--the real ones--are even more efficient because the expansion chamber inside them is that much bigger, but I really don't know.

Of course, I'm of the opinion that the AKM platform and its 7.62x39mm cartridge don't have recoil severe enough to need any kind of brake for extended comfortable shooting, and what the 7.62x39mm needs the most is flash suppression.

Well, when you shoot yours out, you can throw it in the garbage and order half a dozen new ones for pocket money and press that fucker in.
When I shoot mine out, I need to pay for the barrel to be destroyed according to the regulations, then track down an another barrel (borderline impossible), get a separate permit, pay the permit fee, register it, pay the registration fee and have it installed by a gunsmith (because it's illegal to alter main parts by myself).

Feel better?

It's only an assumption, but a logical one. Full length 74 will keyhole when the rifling wears down to the point where it'll no longer stabilize the bullet (we've gotten batches of issued 74Ms that keyholed since day one, with the first five inches past the chamber being basically smoothbore). When the 1:7.87" krink barely manages to stabilize the bullet out of the box, it's only natural to assume it will cross that threshold much sooner. Either way, Soviets weren't exactly known for changing twist rates on a whim of an autist.

>It's only an assumption, but a logical one. Full length 74 will keyhole when the rifling wears down to the point where it'll no longer stabilize the bullet
To which I'll ask, are the barrels wearing down from the twist rate, or simply due to a high round count wearing down the lands and grooves?
It's safe to assume that it'll wear at about the same rate as a full length 74 with the same twist, and that any barrel, once wore out, will cause accuracy and stability issues.

If people want to spout that one barrel wears faster than another, they should have some sort of citation to back it up. Unfortunately, I don't know too many people willing to destroy a pair of barrels just to find out.

On the bright side, now that we know the standard Bulgarian barrel works well while chopped, it's not such a big deal to get your rifle re-barreled.
>>
>>29337325

You misunderstood me. It's not that it would wear faster (well, at the gas port it definitely *will* erode much faster, but that's not the point right now...)
It's just that when you start out with two barrels of the same twist, but one of them is 16" and the other one is 8", guess which one will be the first to stop being able to reliably stabilize the same bullet?
>>
>>29337476
>we've gotten batches of issued 74Ms that keyholed since day one, with the first five inches past the chamber being basically smoothbore

We don't, ZelenySport (http://www.zelenysport.cz) imported them in various conditions and sold them for like $350 a piece back then.

>>29337476
I guess I'm not wording this properly.

Which barrel would wear more rapidly, a barrel with a faster twist, or one with a more gradual twist rate?
I'd imagine that the more gentle twist would wear less, that is if the twist rate effects barrel wear at noticeable levels at all.
If you have any proof to the contrary, I'd gladly read/watch it.

All that said, if they were to wear at the same rate, I could see the faster twist stabilizing for a higher round count, though I don't know how much more, or if it'd even be worth the switch to the "proper" twist for Arsenal.

Forged unless it's changed you can tell by looking at them and if they have something that looks like a mold line they are cast.
I personally don't have a whole lot of experience with the ultimak or microdots in general but if you have a side rail I would advise you to get either the rd regulate side rail mount or if price is an issue the Midwest industries side mount. I would only recommend the ultimak if weight is an extremely high priority because your going to probably want to get a quick detatch mount if you go down that road and those ain't cheap either

You know the weird part? The rifling is beautiful. Mirror sheen, crisp grooves, perfect crown.
But every single (brass!) case I fire out of that thing comes out painted solid black with soot and straight-walled, and the "groups" are larger than I ever thought was physically possible without visible keyholing. My guess are generous chamber dimensions even for Russian standard.

The kobra is cool but the new retail prices are waaaay too high for what it is. You're paying for the cool factor. If you can find a good used price on a forum or gunbroker or eBay or something then you can do good with it.

As for your bolt carrier, it's not stainless, so polishing it will expose it to rust because you're destroying the protective finish. If you polish it slick enough, then the risk of rust is minimized and easy to remove, but still more of a risk than it being parkerized.

I guessed that's what it was.
You gonna let me get those 40 round bakes if they show up?
I can send the money back to you, but I'll wait for you to get them first this time.

Of course. If they actually get here I'll give you two for the price of one. I had already wrote these mags off as a loss so anything off these is a gain to me.

It jams the tip of the bullet against the wall of the chamber, like it can't direct the cartridge into the chamber properly. I had my uncle open up the chamber entry a little bit to try and rectify the problem, but that didn't help at all.

I'm actually not sure if it even still does this. I haven't tried Wolf or brass-cased since the second week I owned it.
