Pick both. If it doesn't meet both, it's trash and you should buy a different handgun instead of a 1911.

entry level RIA regularly shoot out Kimbers unless we're talking the Eclipse model.

put 600+ rounds through my GI so far.
GI sights are pretty meh, but as long as you're not shooting in the dark they're livable.
trigger is a little heavier than I'd like, and there's a good deal of creep.
the ACT mag that came with it broke (feed lips) after around 250 rounds, but was replaced under warranty, no out of pocket expense
one of the wood grips somehow got marred, not sure how.
have had no gun related failures, other than mag issues. the Wilson combat I got keeps double feeding, hitting the slide lock.
gun itself has been solid, and accurate.
a wilson sear and hammer is only $50 or so combined, so might look into that at some point.
I'd probably recommend getting the model with Novak sights, and setting aside a couple bucks for a mainspring/sear to get the trigger where you want it.

To get it up to par with a Colt or a Kimber, you'd have to swap out the barrel nd trigger. The cost would bring you back to the original price of a Colt or a Kimber. So buy a Colt, Kimber or Wilson Combat.

Hit or miss, they're mostly alright, if you want to own a 1911 as a poor fag it's your best bet.

Kimber a shit.

STI, Springfield Armory, Sig and S&W all make better 1911s in those price ranges.

Those mags are literally known to shatter sometimes when dropped. Buy WC mags if you're feeling baller, otherwise buy CMC mags.
>>
>>29335058
Newbie as in I don't own one yet shot a few. I have access to a glock 21 and a ppk. But I've shot the nighthawks a few times and they are all super accurate. I assume you have never even touched one.
>>
>>29334700
Actual Rock Island Tactical & Citadel owner checking in. For the price they are great. Avoid the GI model as mentioned if you waant to ever change the sights. They work and when the QC is lacking they will take care of it. Would reccomemd saving and then putting a Springfield Mil Spec on layaway if wanting something of higher quality and able to customize
>>
Are new Colts good? They seem like the best sub $1k option. Also series 70 or series 80?
>>
>>29335896
Allegedly Colt has fixed the issies they had and are better now. Wished for more from them at Shot Show but honestly interested to see how the competition pistol stacks against the Range Officer as more reviews come out
>>

Is it worth getting a series 80 Colt for around $900 though when you can get a series 70 Springfield with comparable features for around $150 less

Somewhat new to 1911s but looking to make something that looks similar to a MEUSOC. Thinking of using a Springfield Parkerized Loaded model.

I don't care to make it look as close to the real thing as possible. Mostly just add the pachmayr grips, switch out the full length guide rod for a GI one and trade out the stainless components (other than barrel and trigger) for ones that have a finish that match the rest of the gun. However, it's been impossible to find a parkerized skeleton hammer, bushing and spring plug.

Does anyone know of a company that makes these parts? Or at least in finish that matches well with the Springfield parkerization?

Well that should be extraordinarily easy. That more or less a standard govt model with a commander/rowel hammer and Rat tail grip safety. aside from the two tone you could just buy a colt 1991 or Springfield milspec and swap those two parts and an arched msh

There should be some notches in the bushings that a flat head bit fits in. If its tough throw a drop of oil on each one and let it sit for a mo. Wasy as the grip screws themselves. Patients freind.

Bought a ria 2011 tact in .40 lil over 2 months ago. Put 1900-2100 rounds through it so far. No malfunctions. Accurate. A tad heavy.
Polished a few things and trigger pull is at 4.5
Putting in some lighter springs here n there this week and will update.

Thanks, tovarich.

It seemed pretty simple when I looked at it, but I could not get the thing to turn. I cranked on it with a little gusto and damaged the bushing slightly.

I'll try penetrating oil, I hadn't thought of that. I might also try to heat it a little. Any other ideas?

So no. Unequivocally no. Nobody would put up with this bullshit if it were another gun. RIA is no better than a turkshit 1911.
>>
>>29338202
The mag is not causing issues it's your shit gun. The higher quality spring in those expensive mags mitigate shitty springs in yo gun. Wilson mags are a patch, not a fix. Google is your friend.
>>
>>29338202
>the Wilson combat mag I bought is causing feed issues.
WC mags tend to be very reliable. Not that they aren't the cause of the problem, but just because it's a feeding issue doesn't mean it's the mag.

Now of course if every other mag works fine 100% of the time, then yeah, it's the mag. If it's old then replace the spring: as with any spring they are meant to be replaced after enough compression cycles.

If you have issues regardless of the mag you use it is most likely either your extractor or your recoil spring.
