This scenerio is likely to never happen, and if it does, you idiots with guns would more likely shoot yourself in the foot than stop an attacker. As to why people own guns is just mind boggling. Anyone can steal your shit, and one that catches you off guard can easily disarm you. Kids and even adults can gain access to your guns when you're not around.

Looking back I'm glad it happened. A dry run with that mental state, woke up from sleep, adrenaline going, ect. Now I feel a lot ore confident of my ability both physically and mentally if I'm ever forced to defend myself.

As soon as the cops show up, I drop the mag out of the rifle, lock the bolt back, and set it on the ground. I tell the police I was in fear for my life, and not a single word more. Then I tell my fiancee to contact a lawyer and grab my CCW paperwork from my file cabinet. The paperwork proves I attended a class on state defensive law and that I demonstrated proficiency with firearms. I let them sort it out from there.
I should be back at home, no charges, within two days. I should have my firearm returned within two weeks tops. I proceed with my life as normal.

Well, I have a pretty secure apartment, one way in (second story) and I've added as many layers of hardening material to the door as my lease allows. I have a high decibal magnetic alarm on the door after they eventually break in. If I hear the commotion of them pounding the door before it breaks, Ill speed dial 911 and grab my loaded mossberg 500 (remington express #4 high brass buck), have my girlfriend lay as low to the ground as she can while I sit behind the bed waiting for our internal cardboard fiber door to cave through. If I happen not to have enough time to grab my shotgun, Im going for my glock 19 (147gr federal HST) on my bedside table. In both cases I have my line of fire covered at an angle with the least possibility of over penetrating into a neighbors apartment....I should get an ar for the frangible round though.
Im about as prepared as I can be living in an apartment, if I had my own place though, I doubt it would even get far enough for them to enter my home, I have big plans for hardening my exterior doors and windows.
