The IJN claimed 168 planes shot down in the Philippine Sea. The real number is 30ish, since it's hard to separate AAA kills from air kills when the USN attacked.
This is all the more stupid considering basically everyone that got sent to attack the American fleet died. Only something like 70 out of 350 pilots made it back alive, but based on their reports the IJN credited almost 100 air to air kills, many to pilots who got shot down. The USN acknowledged 19 losses during that phase.
The practice of "attributing fake kills" to a dead pilot's honor bites them in the ass hard when the commanders take the claims at face value (including 3 carriers) and think that they broke the American Fleet. Ozawa stayed near the battle overnight instead of realizing he should have bugged out with his 7 carriers and <100 carrier planes left against 17 carriers and almost 1000 planes.

The designs for a girl should be based on the history of the ship itself, not the geographical location the ship might be named after. Kongou for example is named after a mountain in the Kansai region, but her characterization tends to have her using Engrish since she was built in Britain. Musashi and Yahagi are named after locations far from Sasebo where they were built, but their lines reference the regional food of Nagasaki. Basing Iowa off of some corn growing shithole like the state of Iowa just shows how little you care about the actual history of the ship itself.
