Alright, who was the idiot at Ruger who used corrosive .380 to test fire the guns?

Anybody ever get a gun from Ruger that had a pitted/rough bore from the factory? Not sure if this is genuine pitting from corrosion or maybe rough tool marks, but something doesn't look right - there was no orange on the patches, but I don't really see how it could be tool marks. Maybe casting flaws? What do you think? Should I send it back?

>Anybody ever get a gun from Ruger that was correct from the factory?
Fixed and no.
Contact Ruger. Ruger isn't notorious for QC and quality products in general, but even that is pretty low by Ruger standards. That barrel is horrendous.
>>
Get a jar and fill it up with oil "WD40 if possible" and leave it in for a few days then take it out and do a very long brass brush clean down and finish it off with a snake bore cleaner.
>>
I would send it back. That looks like coarse cutting of the rifling. I would imaging you would have serious problems with copper/lead and carbon fouling.
>>
>>29317122
Nah, no amount of solvent is gonna unfuck that pitting. If this were a Mosin barrel it would be acceptable but new production? Hell no.
>>
>>29317071
Those kinda look like machining marks, like the rifling was cut poorly
>>
>>29317104
This. Contact Ruger with pics. They should send a replacement and probably a mag or 2 for the inconvience.
>>
>>29317071
That's not pitting. That's chatter and gouging from a tool that should have been changed out.
>>
>>29317122
I appreciate the advice, but trust me, if I didn't get all the soot out with what I did, then there's a bigger problem here. I already soaked the bore in alternating Hoppes #9 and M-Pro 7 Bore Gel for about an hour and a half, reaming a bronze brush every 15-20 minutes, and running a patch through periodically. I've never seen a bore that wouldn't come to a mirror sheen after doing that.
>>
>>29317071
Good god. Contact Ruger, their customer service is excellent. They generally help out people that buy them used unless it's obvious you did something horrible to their gun. And I haven't had any issues with my sr yet
>>
>>29317169
Don't think that's corrosion tbqh familia, if it was rust or corrosion you could shoot it out like a Mosin, that looks like it came from the factory that way
>>
>>29317165
That would make sense.

>>29317211
Will do. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait a few days since it's the weekend now.

>>29317218
>that looks like it came from the factory that way
I just picked it up from my dealer earlier today and haven't even shot it yet.
>>
>>29317239
Then it was cut from shitty steel or with a dull ass tool m8. Just send it back to Ruger

It's a $250 .380. What did he expect?
>>
>>29318178
It's actually my second LCP - technically an LCP Custom. The first one I owned - normal LCP - had a perfectly normal, shiny-looking barrel. Stop acting like it's so hard to rifle a metal tube. Even Taurus can churn out barrels without chatter marks/casting marks on the inside.

Not even american companies are cheap enough to cast barrels. That would be just asking for glocknades.

As many said before it's caused by dull or improperly adjusted cutter.

I don't get it. Do I have to have autism to see what's supposably wrong here? somebody help
>>
>>29319257
See all the bumps and rough parts in between the raised portions of the rifling? That is supposed to be smooth there
>>
>>29319257
>Do I have to have autism to see
If you've ever cleaned a gun once in your life, you'd see.
>>
>>29319222
Welp that's one more manufacturer I'll never trust again. Though gotta say I haven't seen any direct statement from Ruger, only anons on forums claiming shit. Much like they claim that Tikka receivers are cast, while I watch those get machined out of rolled bar stock every day at work.

Now that I think about it more, how the fuck is casting a pistol barrel more economical? You get 5-7 pistol barrels out of single cold hammered blank depending on your machine setup. No matter how good your casting is you still need specialized machines to clean up the rifling and the chamber. Hammered blank needs only chambering and good old machining.
>>
>>29319003
This is correct.
>>
>>29319222
>>29319927
That's actually pretty based from a tech standpoint. Ruger really pushes what people think can be done in the mass manufacture of arms and I can respect them for that.
>>
Learning guns here

What is it supposed to look like?
>>
>>29319927

The bean counters already did the math.

It is cheaper to cast than forge.

Like this. Obviously wihout the huge number of rifling grooves since it's a pistol and not cannon. You can see how messed up OP's barrel is in the low spots (grooves) that have been cut away.
>>
>>29317071

OHHHH NOOOOOO

HOW DARE THEY MAKE A NON PRECISION MATCH GRADE BARREL FOR AN LCP

NOW HOW WILL YOU GET SUB MOA GROUPS AT 600 YARDS WITH YOUR 2" .380??!!!??

It's a shitty sub compact, you faggot.
Who gives a fuck if the barrel is dog dicks
>>
>>29322440
Quality post.
>>
>>29319257
You don't need to have autism to know that kind of quality is unacceptable for a new production barrel.
>>
>>29317099
did you clean the outside of the barrel as well? cause that shit looks dirty or rusty.

It inside is def fucked, looks like their groove cutter broke/chipped, and the hammer machine kept pounding it through, galling the lands and grooves.

Call ruger, send email to rep's address with the pics. I have personally heard of Ruger sending out a brand new 1911 when the 'stainless' frame started to get a little surface rust on the front of the grip from sweaty hands.

you should do fine with that. Make sure you make a follow up thread, I wanna hear how it goes.

Dont listen to the dumbfuck suggestion methods of cleaning it in this thread. Just call them, and tell them you cleaned the shit outta it, and it still looks like this, and you think it might be a manufacture defect.
>>
>>29322819
>did you clean the outside of the barrel as well? cause that shit looks dirty or rusty.
I'm not sure what that is, but to the naked eye, the outside looks fine. Maybe oil left over on the outside of the barrel from cleaning, since I was mainly focused on getting the inside of the barrel clean and dry.

>Call ruger
Will do. I just wanted to see what /k/ had to say over the weekend while Ruger CS was unavailable.

>>29322440
It may not matter for accuracy, but it would definitely make a difference for ease of cleaning, and possibly might indicate (if it's casting flaws rather than tooling marks) that there is some sort of structural issue with the barrel.
>>
>>29322895
>casting flaws
>>
>>29322895
oh, and dont accept no bullshit "You gotta send it to us, and we will cover return shipping"

ask for a prepaid RMA shipping label if he tells you to send it on your dime.
>>

>supposably
>>
Not sure if I'd contact river as first step. I'd take it back to ffl. They can contact Ruger for you and setup the return of the item. If they're worth their salt, they should make this process simple.
>>
>>29322938
Expecially disappointed.
>>
>>29322911
Ruger CS is generally pretty great, I wouldn't worry about that.

The barrel is unacceptable but they'll at least try to make it right.
