Why do people love butterfly knives so much? They just seem useless and gaudy to me. Is there something important i'm missing about them?

They're fun to do tricks with, some people get pretty serious about it. A buddy of mine can pull his out and cut something faster than most people can whip out a pocket knife, but thats probably 15 years worth of fucking around with a single knife. Not really practical in any manner.
They are fun and have a locking mechanism that is debatably the strongest of all folding knives
I wouldn't personally carry mine as edc due to the lack of clear knife laws. If anyone says they are for much more than fun it's a lie I have a Bradley Kimura 6.
Aside from the memes, I actually enjoy using the bastards. Especially if you hail from the fliplands.

i carried one for a long time because it was more reliable then most auto knives, just as quick to open but could just as easily be closed one handed and they have a vary sim profile
also, my benchmade 51 saved me from getting jumped once when i was 18-19, so i guess them being flashy and scary to most people comes as a benefit sometimes

I think they're fun and I have some semi rare ones but they're not as useful as your average folder (though they technically have a stronger locking mechanism).
