Remember the movie Predator? Remember how the Predator was able to use invisible stealth technology to blend into the jungle environment around him, and how when he moved it looked like the jungle itself was moving? Well, that technology is now in the advanced stages of development by the U.S. military. Called Quantum Stealth, this technology camouflages people by bending light around the object it is hiding. And the result is that people and objects literally turn invisible to the naked eye. The images of Quantum Stealth available on the Internet are downright freaky. The hope is that the invisible cloaks provided by the Quantum Stealth technology will enable soldiers to infiltrate enemy territory without being detected, as well as launch surprise attacks and carry out assassinations. Sounds pretty farfetched, but the future is here and this technology is real.
Once we see quantum computers grow into themselves, I guarantee we'll have the computing power to create even better stealth equipment than that. Undetectable in every way

As far fetched as this shit sounds, I've heard rumors crop up about invisibility tech every couple years...always something innocuous here or on /x/ type sites. An invisible soldier magically appearing here and there sort of stuff in old archival footage of battlefields.

Realm of possibility to have crye precision pants that could switch from OD to khaki to multicam with the press of a touch screen/button/turn of a dial?

But that looks like it would work pretty well with some calibrating and using 3d cameras or LIDAR (lighweight solid state LIDAR is a thing) to calculate a rescaled image depending on how far away the soldier is from objects.

It would still be a significant improvement over current camouflage without that aspect. I'm not expecting something that would make someone disappear like science fiction, just something that would be a significant improvement over current camouflage when you get into the distances involved in urban areas (where current camouflage other than dressing as a civilian isn't very effective) or when being engaged by enemies with modern optics (where slight changes in the distance between the camouflaged soldier and the observer would make significantly less of a difference).

Just ran the numbers for moving closer to someone in an urban area. For a 6 foot (2 yard) tall soldier who is 10 yards away from a wall that the camouflage would mimic and is 50 yards away from an observer, if the observer were to move 10 yards closer to the soldier then the height of the wall that the soldier's body would cover from the perspective of the observer would only change by 3.5" or a 4% difference in what the height of features on the wall should be. If the soldier is 5 yards away from the wall instead of 10 yards, the observer would have to start at 40 yards and move to 30 yards from the soldier to notice a similar change. It might not make a soldier invisible but it could very well raise the chance of not being noticed with a quick glance at closer ranges, which could be a major advantage when maneuvering in a firefight.
