I know there's a lot of good cops but many are horrible people.
I was arrested for possession with intent to distribute for having 2 separate gram bags of hash (they were two different types - both bags had the name of the type of hash on them). This took place in Massachusetts where hash is a class C substance while marijuana is a class D (even though they're both the same fucking drug). Possession with intent to distribute a class C is a felony, possession with intent to distribute a class D is a misdemeanor. So because I had hash instead of straight up marijuana I was facing a felony charge. The arresting officer, a state trooper, also stole $200 I had just taken out from the bank in a bank envelope with the fucking receipt in it. He lied about where he found it - said he found it in my bag in the back seat instead of the trunk where it actually was - so that he could claim in was in reach of the driver and make defending myself in court harder. I ended up getting off of it in court (I was a first time offender) but it cost me time and money. All of this over hash in a state where marijuana is decriminalized.
Fuck enforcing bullshit laws, fuck corrupt cops. I wouldn't lose any sleep knowing that fucker catches a bullet in the line of duty. He was maybe 26 years old (5 years ago) when he pulled that shit, what kind of shit do you think has he pulled since then? How much money has he stolen, fake police reports has he written?

In a vast majority of cases, they actually don't. Officers have legal discretion for offering warnings instead of citations, but they can also outright ignore infractions and nobody will be the wiser. Of course, if they're told to serve a search or arrest warrant, their hands are basically tied. But on patrol, they can ignore anything and everything with no negative repercussions by simply saying "I didn't see anything".

The problem with most cops if they don't realize just how damaging legal trouble is to the average person. Cops can write up a bullshit police report and get you charged with a felony for acting smart, and completely forget all about the whole thing in under a week. Meanwhile, that person they wrote up is going to have to fight an expensive/lengthy legal battle, potentially go to jail and dirty up their record so they'll never be able to hold down a job in their lives.
Cops seem to believe that because they have a big powerful union that will fight to bury whatever dirty shit they do, it must be like that for everyone. so they continue to enforce the whatever interpretation of the law they see fit and don't give a damn if what there doing is actually making their communities a safer placer.

You know most of them want to be the old-school hero-of-the-people-types they supposedly were in the good old days, but then you have so many stupid laws and so many dumb people that most of the time the best ones end up broken and become worse than the cartels they set out to fight.
