What's up /k/?
I'm a firm believer that knowledge shouldn't be restricted to a small group of people which is why I'm sharing my personal database of blueprints and CAD files.
Nobody seemed interested last time I made this thread but I'm looking for more of the same. Not ever folder is jam packed so don't get overly excited.
I'm uploading more and please share more of the same

Anything with dimensions will help me out greatly, I'm trying to make old guns into CAD form
>no interest in thread
no one wants to get v&
>>29310877
Well you're not going to because unless you're circulating secret documents you'll be fine. I'm just trying to consolidate resources and preserve history

Oh lawd. All the sketches are blue, aren't they?
>>29310968
>Blue sketches
Say it isn't true OP.
>>29310976
I'm scared, Anon.
Hold me.
>>29310976
>>29310985
No blue lines at all. Starting to make this bad boy and plan on trying to sell for around $800 or so
anyone have and machine gun blueprints? M249 or M240?
>>29310669
Thanks for posting brother. Files saved to external drive for future reference.
>>29310669
Is that a FAMAS?
>>29310669
>Solidworks
you filthy scrub
>>29310669
>>29311121
Solidworks is fine.
If you were to only learn one CAD software, that's the one that'd give you the most job opportunities that aren't trash.
>>29311101
No problem buddy.
I'm thinking about getting a 3D desktop scanner because pic related. Has anyone ever heard of going to museums and getting one on one time with antique or rare firearms? Obviously it would likely be supervised but how much money would one have to pay to be able to scan a Federov Avtomat or something like that?
>>29311121
I don't get why there's so much hate for Solidworks, i've been using it full time for a few months now and it's not often that I find myself limited in what I need to do.
I'm also learning Catia right now thanks to anon's suggestion and it seems quite a bit more powerful but Solidworks suffices for me
>>29311153
3D scanning won't give you much in terms of a usable model. You just end up with a point cloud that you then have to turn into a model. It's okay for 3D printing a cheap figurine or for making game/movie assets, but not really for engineering.
>>29311175
I prefer the mates in Inventor over those in Solidworks, but the SW interface is super fast.
I find most people who diss SW don't use the contextual menus/keyboard shortcuts and shit.
Also, you gotta love the sheet metal functionality of SW.
>>29311206
That's something I've been trying to figure out actually. Based on the handguard which I made, is there a simple way of converting this solid into a sheet metal part, or would I have to recreate it as a flat piece and add bends later?
>>29311206
Also, I seem to remember the mesh wizard is tremendously helpful in this respect. It turns the point cloud into a skin and you can adjust the symmetry and "tolerances" to fit your needs
>>29311175
It's very good for simple prismatic parts, such as gun parts. I use it daily for swoopy curvy surfaces for aircraft parts and it shits all over itself constantly. So I think it's heavily dependent on application

Thanks

Nice work man. As tu une compte avec Grabcad?

>MULTIPLE THICKNESSES
>>29311790
How do you guys go about cutting rifling (and other thread type stuff) in SW?
A lot of the advice I've seen is to simply leave threaded stuff out of the model for the sake of a quick rebuild time but is there a good way to do it?
>>29311271
Quite the opposite, actually.
You create the final profile, tell solidworks to make that the length you need and then extrude-cut the excess.
However, I can tell you right now that it's basically impossible to bend a sheet of metal into that profile. You'd either have to do it in multiple pieces or go with a custom aluminum extrusion and then machine that down. I've been seeing a lot more of that in firearm designs lately.
>>29311973
There's an option in the Sweep to "twist along path". That's the fastest and easiest method.
>>29311790
>>29311802
Those are awesome man, do you have download links?
>>29311973
Never tried it but I would assume its some form of swept cut or extruding a profile along a path
I guess I might as well put on my tripfag hat for this thread...
>>29311271
>>29312018
I forgot to mention that it's really important to be consistent with the direction that you add the material when working with the sheet metal functionality. If the important dimension is on the inside of the handguard, then I'd suggest putting that as the line you use. That way, if you decide to change the gauge for whatever reason, it'll only change the less important dimensions (except bend radii, of course).
>>29312024
Nah, I wanna jew out and sell the schematics at some point

>>29310669
whatya mean nobody? I'm the guy that suggested you put a notch for the HK slap in the forend.
>>29312069
Hey fag, you looking for a job/know other drafters looking for a job?
Because the company I work at is looking for capable people, and goddamn are they hard to find
>>29312140
BTW, downloaded the Ar/k/, desu I thought there'd be a lot more information that was useful in there.
>>29312089
I could do the same but choose not to. Who cares if 15 people on /k/ have models for guns that already exist. Don't be part of the problem here
>>29312151
Update 1 is coming around monday or so, should have more shit.
>>29312157
Here's a few I did for free
>>29312143
I am, actually, on the job market. Where are you located?
I just completed a CNC machining course (so that I'd be better able to design affordably manufacturable components), if you're interested.
>>29312179
Fuck forgot link

>>29312157
I mean, the Ar/k has bomb making instructions, CAD models for machine guns and nobody has got a knock, I mean hell I put the thing together and distributed it and went to two Trump rallies and was face to face with secret service and even tried to get Trump to sign my M16-M4 field manual no problem.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
i Work for Taurus OP and thank you for the free schematics we will soon put them into production
>>29312198
are these files in the defcad mega packs?
>>29312217
download the FOSSCAD mega pack 4.7 has tons more stuff
>>29312217
Please do. I'd love to see a Taurus m60 struggle to feed itself

North Louisiana, we're a relatively small machine shop (~35 people) that's carving their way into the automotive systems market, and we're looking at adding on to our engineering team (Currently 2 people strong that looks like a 5-man team to our customers)
Shoot me an email at [email protected] if you want to chat more
>>29311121
Nothing wrong with Solidworks. I work as an engineer and a very large portion of my time is spent 3d modeling. I currently use Inventor, but much prefer SolidWorks.
>>29312253
Ah, that's a pretty long trek for me. I'm currently in Toronto and don't have the means to move that far at the moment (dat student debt).
I do plan on moving down to the US once the Federal government gets it's head out of it's ass and gives me my fucking citizenship, though. They'd rather give citizenship to assholes entering the country illegally than to the son of an American. Yes, I'm mad.
>>29312281
If you're the son of an American I think you automatically have dual citizenship. I'm not positive cause I was born into a free nation but yeah.
>>29312281
Damn, good luck with citizenship though
>>29312297
I have to prove that my father has spent a certain number of years in the country in order to qualify. They have a very... restrictive definition of "Blood Right".
Bitch at the consulate in Montreal didn't want to accept my father's tax documents from the early 1980's because "He didn't earn enough money to certifiably say he was in the country the whole year". Bitch, the minimum wage in the state he was in was something like 3.25/hour. Of fucking course he wasn't earning 50 grand! She then got really pissy with me when I said it was completely arbitrary after she told me that "there is no minimum amount, sir. It's up to our decision". No, no. Not arbitrary at all!
But that's enough ranting.
>>29312313
Thanks, man. Good luck finding good engineering technicians. I know how hard they can be to find. The problem is that most positions they would be perfect for are listed as requiring a fucking master's in engineering and then they are offered <17 bucks per hour (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA).

OP here, These wouldn't be in the arkive but i'd be happy if they made it in along with the original post with the rest of my collection. Spread the love
>>29312429
or do you mean the update?, the update isn't available yet
>>29312441
yea I can add it to the update, who should I credit it to?
>>29312393
also, its not broke, Dropbox won't let you download large zips, sign into Dropbox and add it to your account, it'll auto download. If you don't have an account sign up for one maybe OP has a referral link

Would it be worth getting a 3d printer, print out a non firing full scale version of your gun and fill it full of nickels to represent weight of your design just to get a feel for the ergonomics?

I created one to upload the scope:

you stop right there, yes.

Looks good anon. I'll make one of my Zeiss 51 once I pick it up tomorrow.
>>29312369
I don't have my degree yet (Getting it in CS though, started in MechEng but now I'm leveraging both those classes and my other background to go hard in automation and advanced CAD design), but here I'm making $15 an hour + classes being paid for as long as I stay full time at work.
$15 an hour really isn't too bad when cost of living is low as fuck around here, hell the apartment building I live in is nice, less than 5 years old, and costs $480 a month, utilities and cable/internet included
