HK MR556/416/IAR still eats a buffer tube every 3000 or so rounds with wear apparent within 500 rounds. Partly because HK thinks its shit doesn't stink and blames the end user when it shreks a buffer tube so they've never redesigned the carrier, but it's still being made as of <current year> and it's still shredding buffer tubes.
LWRC's are probably the best at mitigating carrier tilt. It still has it but by the time it chews up a buffer tube bad enough to induce malfunctions you've already shot out the first barrel so replacing a ~$20 part isn't a big deal.

Any short stroke piston still tilting the BCG perplexes me. If there's no longer force on the carrier over the radial axis as it enters the buffer tube, and the bolt has been widened to fit the tube, there shouldn't be any difference between a rod or gas piston at that point. Am I missing something that would lift the front of the BCG as it enters the tube?
Also, if the HKs are showing wear on the buffer tube after just 500 rounds, that's pathetic. My plainest of the Jane's AA rifle has ~2000 with no scraping yet that I can find.
