What's the point of having those deadly weapons made for carnage if you're never gonna use them?
You can only fantasize about a huge civil war which will never happen.

Seeing as over 1 million homes are broken into every year in the US while people are home, it's good to be prepared for anything.

That said, never say never. The way government's growing, shit could go down. Not today, not tomorrow, but somewhere down the line. We have the 2A to protect from tyranny. Too bad I'm limited to 15 round magazines

Why does anyone do the things they do as hobbies? Hobbies don't have to be practical, so long as its something you enjoy. Some people enjoy putting holes in paper by slinging lead at them. I train in gunfighting for the same reason I train in martial arts. It's something I enjoy, and happens to be a skill-set that I could use if necessary. I don't want to be in a fight, or a gunfight, but shit happens. The world is not a 'safe space'. I'd like not be one of those vapid cows that just crouches down and lays on the ground in a crisis because they are paralyzed by fear. I want to be able to act in any and every circumstance I find myself.

I know it's bait but... This mentality of 'everyone who buys a gun is a bloodthirsty monster just waiting for an excuse to to kill' is such a ridiculous notion. Hard to believe that anyone who actually knows a few gun owners or even handled/shot a firearm themselves would continue to entertain such extreme stereotypes.

>What's the point of having those deadly weapons made for carnage if you're never gonna use them?
But I use them at least once every week.

Because they are cool, both the marksmanship and their technical side, everything.

It also makes me feel more self-reliant and empowered, even if it's mostly a false feeling of security.

>You can only fantasize about a huge civil war which will never happen.
WW2 ended in 1945. It's been 71 years of relative peace in my country since then.

I don't know if you realize but that's an awful lot of peace time Anon. The history shows that wars tend to happen sooner or later, it's inevitable and my guns have a pretty good chance of being useful in the near future, even if it's just pic related because I'm living in a no guns country (in the middle of getting my permits though, but modern firearms will be confiscated in case of war anyways).

Not that I want war to happen though. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and the history won't repeat itself, but we all know it does that all the time.

And if you are from US, your country is barely 300 years old. You are powerful now, but you are also very young.

Roman Empire used to be pretty similiar in that regard, lasted for around 400 years before division, then continued to exist as a shadow of its former self for the next millennium.

I'm sure there was lots of romans who were thinking just like you are now, that their country is the most powerful one in existance and there is no way they can be defeated.

Jews probably weren't expecting the Holocaust either. Hell, I'm sure chinks were not expecting that Great Famine caused by Maos hate boner for sparrows as well.

Remember, violence and struggle is an integral part of all of our history, and I doubt it's going to change. We might have it easy now, but you can't tell when it's going to change.

Here's the problem, OP. The Japanese ethos was warped forever by the atomic bomb attacks during WWII. Millions of Japanese men, women, and children were forced to come to terms with the idea of an overwhelmingly powerful entity outside of their control that could wipe them out of existence without warning using unspeakable weapons. They did this, for the most part, by exploring the idea in fiction. Godzilla is one example. Anime is another. If the United States of America were to deploy nuclear weaponry against Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and France, chances are the same thing would happen again: More Godzillas, and more anime. Do you think the world can really handle six animes? In the 1980's, United States President Ronald Reagan developed an idea known as "Mutually-Assured Destruction" (MAD). This philosophy stated that war with Russia would not happen, because there was no way to wage it without both countries being destroyed. I see this same situation today. We cannot nuke more countries for fear of mutually assured destruction when they create more anime. Thank you for your time.
>>
>>29294720

most of my weapons are carry guns and cheap home defense shotguns.

I have two rifles; one for plinking the other for hunting.

why so many handguns and shotguns, though? redundancy.

if I ever do have to shoot a mugger or intruder, my weapon will be taken as evidence, and likely never returned without a long legal fight....so I keep backups.

I like guns because they are a physical link to history and major events of the past. With most antiques, all you can do is look at them. But with guns you get to experience using an object that was once used in a major human conflict or time in history. Who knows what your mosin, Enfield, or beat to shit SKS has seen? It's really cool

Then you consider that guns are a sound financial investment, especially historical firearms. Some of the rifles I own have increased 25% in value over what I bought them for a year ago. Unlike many hobbies, these items are assets, not liabilities.

Last there is the self defense part. The world is not a safe place. I live in the 3rd most wealthy county in the US and crime has found me even out here in this gated community. I went outside with my AR in the last 6 months to confront 3 people who were standing in our driveway looking into cars for something to steal at 11pm. They quickly left.

Lol wut?

The Glock 17 in 1986 was 560 dollars: MSRP. Wholesale then was $360.
Lets call that as 470 dollars out the door.
Lets compare that to a small 5% interest rate over the years.
470 = 2,031 at 5% compounding yearly for 30 years
Are you telling me that a gen 1 glock 17, nib that sat still for 30 years is worth more than 2031 dollars?

>>
>>29299732
5% is not a small interest rate when your investment is >$500.
Just because you recently learned the math does not mean you should willy-nilly try to show it off.
>>
>>29299732

Notice I said historical guns. Of course your polymer lower pistol or Mossberg 500 is not going to increase or even hold value. They have no value beyond the practical, and of course a used gun will have less life than a new one.

That's where the historical part comes in. See, regardless of use, history doesn't go away. The German kar98k will always have the history behind it. It could be shot out and heavily worn but by virtue of existing it has value.
