>women in military meme
>being this fucking retarded

The YPJ has been fighting since the beginning, they never had an attrition problem they've always had a supply problem. Actually their ranks were intentionally swelled because ISIS freaks the fuck out when they get shot at by women, and then afterward they scream on twitter about how they're totally not afraid of women.
>>
>>29287838
They use female troops for ideological reasons, women are equal to men in their communist philosophy so there's no reason not to have them be soldiers also.
Besides would you say the IDF is getting chewed up and recruit (conscripted, YPJ are volunteers) females because of attrition losses?
No, they're simply taking advantage of the available manpower, or maybe I should say womanpower.

> Mirza, 29 grew up outside Syria in a small village in western Iraq. He is not a Muslim or an atheist but a Yazidi, part of an ethnic and religious minority that practices a modern form of Zoroastrianism. He hadn’t heard of Abdullah Ocalan until recently. In August 2014, ISIS extremists attacked his village, near the city of Sinjar, and butchered as many as 5,000 of his neighbors. While Mirza and his family were trapped on a mountain for four days, waiting to die, a battalion of women — Y.P.J. soldiers — fought through the ISIS lines and created a path for them to escape. Mirza, severely dehydrated and on the verge of collapse, fled.

This just in

-ISIS claims to have killed and retrieved the body of a Russian adviser near Palmyra.

-According to pro rebel sources, ISIS has cut off the highway between Al Houl and Al Shadadi in Al Hasakah after seizing villages right next to the highway.
>>
>>29289319
I seen the IS claim of killing a Russian adviser and having the body but I was waiting for anything else. Their news agency made the claim. It's likely true and evidence that Russian advisers are still on the front in Palmyra despite the pull out.

Some good news for the SAA is they continue to advance south of the airbase in Deir Ezzor now in a oil field well south giving them a large buffer zone they didn't have before.

>According to pro rebel sources, ISIS has cut off the highway between Al Houl and Al Shadadi in Al Hasakah after seizing villages right next to the highway.

There is no direct highway between Al Houl and Al Shadadi. The are connected with a highway at Hasakah city which is deep withing YPG territory.
>>
I am also seeing a pro SAA claims that reinforcements are coming to Palmyra from Latakia in the tone that this is good news.

There is already a large ground force assembled at Palmyra. Something like 3,000 troops (my est , I could be wrong) The fact that they need to call in more reinforcements is actually a bad sign , not a good sign. Palmyra is a tough nut to crack.
>>
>>29289454
On that note breaking news that 11 what's being reported as "Hezbollah" troops have been killed on the Palmyra front today.
>>
>>29289564
and IS has released the video of the dead Russian adviser. I am watching it on a vid me link so I can't post it here. Check Palmyra on twitter and you'll see it.
>>
>>29289359
Yeah everyone is reporting it now, I guess we will have to wait and see if ISIS will post pictures.
I'm sure the Russians will be leaving a few advisers here and there, just to make sure things go roughly their way.

>>29289416
Oh yes correct, sorry about the mix up. I used the term "highway" while it is just a regular road, the report is referring to alternative routes between Al Shadadi and Al Houl. I am not even sure all of it is paved.
Basically, if the reports are correct, ISIS attack a desert with a few villages here and there. >>29289319

I have no real answer if this 100% dead Russian but between the RU works video the other day being under fire near Palmyra, Ruaf air support continuing to bomb Palmyra and multiple pictures of Russian soldiers in Syria it's a strong possibility. The uniform resemble much more those from the SAA, than those worn by the Russian soldiers in Syria. So, with fat chances of being wrong, I think this poor bastard was someone from the Tiger Forces with special gear. But if was so, the TF would probably have already released something clarifying the facts, to save the face of their Russian friends.

Yeah seems like an odd kit. Never seen an AK in that particular style in the hands of Syrians, and he does have a bunch of Russian gear. But at the same time is missing gear you'd think a Russian would have.

Actually if he 100% was Russian wouldn't ISIS flash his ID? They always love picking through IDs and documents and showing them to the camera. Or maybe he didn't carry any, but then you ask the question why not?

>Having so much ammunition and weaponry stationed so close to a fragile frontline that is incapable of dealing with large Islamic State attacks is a sign of extremely incompetent military planning. This is especially true when considering the immensely large 137th Brigade's base located nearby has plenty of space to house tenfold the contents of Ayyash. This base is located much closer to the airbase and Deir ez-Zor's city centre and thus better capable of dividing the munitions between the defenders of Deir ez-Zor. To lose the largest weapon arsenal ever to have been captured in the war due to nothing other than poor planning and above all laziness raises the issue of whether the current organisation in charge of regime operations is capable of dealing with the situation it faces. Instead, units such as the ones commanded by Suheil 'The Tiger' al-Hassan and Issam 'The Lion' Zahreddine are constantly being relocated to positions that had previously been abandoned by other regime forces

In his televised interview broadcast on 11 October 2015, Russian president Vladimir Putin said the military operation had been thoroughly prepared in advance; he defined Russia′s goal in Syria as "stabilising the legitimate power in Syria and creating the conditions for political compromise".[100]

On 14 March 2016, President Putin announced during a televised meeting with Defense Minister Shoigu and Foreign Minister Lavrov that the mission which he set for the Russian military in Syria "has been accomplished" and he ordered the withdrawal of the "main part" of the Russian forces from the country. According to a BBC diplomatic correspondent, Russia's intervention achieved its main goals: it consolidated President Assad's position, enabled his forces to re-take key pieces of strategic territory and ensured that Assad remains a factor in any future Syrian settlement.[29]

He wanted to look good and facilitate a peace through the negotiation process, by beating the hell out of the rebels and Daesh he stabilized Assad's position, pressured the Americans into forcing their rebels to go to the negotiating table, and by leaving he encourages the Saudis and turks into pressuring their proxies to go to the negotiating table as well as Assad, since he now knows that big daddy Ivan won't be there to carry him to the end of the War militarily, so he is now much more likely to actually negotiate.
And if shit hits the fan he can always order the planes back into Syria.

Four dead according to Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin during the ceremony of awarding the military who participated in the operation in Syria Russian VKS, paid tribute to the four soldiers.

During the ceremony, the president appealed to the widows.

"Here in this room, Elena Peshkova, Valentina Cheremisina, Irina and Julia Igorevna Pozynich Zhuravlev, the widow of our comrades who lost their lives in the fight against terrorists. I understand that, for family, relatives, friends, comrades Oleg, Ivan, Alexander, Fedor their care - an irreparable loss. We all perceive the incident as a personal grief. Therefore, I call your husbands, fathers, sons by name. And not as a Supreme Commander or the president, but as a grateful and grieving for the losses of this Russian citizen. Our comrades until the end remained faithful to the oath and military duty. We will remember their courage and nobility, that they were real men and brave soldiers ", - said the president.

Wtf are talking about faggot? Female Kirds have been in the fight since the start and the Kurds are doing fantastic in both Syria and Iraq.
>>
>>29299790
True that they have been using female units from the start, how effective no one knows. But on their own they have performed incredibly poorly against ISIS. When ISIS attacked Syrian Kurds it moved throughout their lines like they were nothing and in the case of Peshmerga, ISIS attacks didn't just rout Peshmerga units, they disintegrated them. The only reason Ebril wasn't taken was that ISIS units were bombed as they approached the city. The same story as Kobani.

>>
>>29299972
No, Baghdad would hold. If it came into question Iran would have intervened. Maliki was an idiot but he was ME dictator wanna be and he kept his best troops around Baghdad. But Ebril would fall, Kurds would have been pushed into the mountains and ISIS could have spend 2015, taking out Assad. No US intervention and we would probably be looking at an ISIS state that controls most of Syria, everything east of Iblid- Homs-Damascus line, fighting in Damascus and south Syria: and everything north and west of Baghdad. And a civil war in Lebanon. ISIS would control massive oil reserves and would have to be recognized as a state.
>>
>>29298608
Depends on who gets voted in this election.

Hillary or Sanders will probably continue the course Obama plotted with largely ineffective diplomacy and limited military engagement. But Trump has repeatedly talked about putting boots on the ground to lead a gung ho war with IS, which is exactly what IS is craving for and will gleefully as an excuse to target more Western interests.
>>
>>29299848
That's more of a symptom of their general disorganization at the beginning of the conflict than anything else, remember nobody was arming them then so they had to do by scrapping whatever they could find laying around while IS could use weapons given to them by the US, Turks Saudis etc. Or just looted from army deposits in Iraq and/or Syria.
But once the Kurds mobilized fully, received western support, began actually training their fighters and not just giving them weapons and pushing them to the front, that's when they began doing well.

Its the ME, its not like there is a lack of guns in the ME. They might have lacked heavy weapons but they had some. YPG is PKK subsidiary, its not like they had no war experience. Also they had 3 years to prepare. And that's just the YPG, what excuse is there for Peshmerga? One on one ISIS would have steamrolled them like they were nothing, just like they steam rolled the FSA.

>>29300909
Was going to post that , saw it on Step. Pro SAA sources seem confident a ground assault on Palmyra city is coming soon.

Other than that on a slow day in Syria more fighting between IS and YPG/SDF reported near Shadadi close to where "Omar the Chechen" was mortally wounded in a airstrike which btw Deir Ezzor24(good source) reports he is still alive but seriously injured as originally reported before the US government declared him dead.
>>
>>29301176
Lastly over 40 Ruaf airstrikes on Palmyra today plus cluster bombs.
>>
>>29301176
Yeah Step and Al Masdar claimed that. Things seem to be going well for the SAA's advance on Palmyra but like many pointed out they shouldn't rush in. They did already lose 5 Russians (according to ISIS of course) and many others.
>>
>>29300664
In the absence of hard information (especially with governments protecting classified information, little to no neutral coverage of the war, and IS intentionally withholding theirs for propaganda purposes) it really is hard to tell.
>>
>>29299486
The FSA moving on IS northern Aleppo is helping them stay in the game . Even risking massive IS retaliation it gives them more space away from the YPG/SDF and SAA to the south.

It also shows that IS is weak in northern and eastern Aleppo and too spread out. IS is still going lash out. We already seen it at Khanser and they are trying to find another weak spot somewhere in Aleppo to "surpise" everyone with another offensive.
>>
>>29301444
My thoughts exactly, the corridor has survived all this time but making more room for themselves will discourage the rest of the sides from attacking even more. The rebels could also use some gains, hell why not aim for the next border crossing?

I also discussed in the previous threads that some (Liwa Ahfad Salah Al Din) are getting well supplied possibly by Western nations. These suppliers would surely make sure that the rebels focus on ISIS.

Al Masdar just claimed that the SAA Latakia offensive has been temporarily halted, expecting to resume operations in April.

The SAA has stopped advancing after Russia announced their withdrawal.

In the meantime, they claimed that the SAA seized the highlands overlooking the royal villas (which ISIS uses as a training camp) after advancing from the nearby Hayal mountain. They also reported that ISIS is counterattacking the SAA near Al Qaryatayn.
>>
I'm late today, again, but everything important has already been covered.
Ivan Sidorenko said, in one of his posts, that those latest SAA advance into the oil fields south of Deir ez Zor is a preparation for a link up with the forces attacking Palmyra. Well, good luck with that.

An ISIS 'Emir', was reported killed by the SAA, near Palmyra. Sultan bin Abdel Rahman, one can only imagine if he was the commander of the region.

Also, the “Rojava and Northern Syria United Democratic System Document Text” was accepted after a vote, by representatives of the Rojava region. They are basically proclaiming itself an federal region within Syria.

"Co-presidents of the federation were also elected. Cezîre Canton ex-Co-President Hediye Yûsif and Girê Spî ex-Co-president Mensur El Selum became the co-presidents of Democratic Federation." - From ANHA news.

Ironically, both, the Central government and the Opposition, condemn it, using almost the same expression that this is a attempt against Syria unity. The central government called it “unconstitutional and worthless” and the Rebels accused the Kurds of trying to “confiscate the will of the Syrian people.”

>those latest SAA advance into the oil fields south of Deir ez Zor is a preparation for a link up with the forces attacking Palmyra
Good luck indeed. Only a total meltdown of ISIS forces in the area would result in that, and even then they would simply counter attack the advance and destroy the SAA.

Yeah the US and Russia aren't happy with the Kurdish Federation wither. The US said that it will not recognize a Kurdish autonomous region, while Russia said that the Kurds would have to discuss such matters in the peace talks before making a decision.
>>
>>29302528
It's interesting to see that the kurds went along with everyone, but when they tried to chew more than what people liked, eveyone is starting to turn on them.

Proof that no one, in the whole world, wants a kurdish state, or anything resembling that.

They're too chaotic, and are inserted in a chaotic area, so they would be a nightmare for geopolitics between the powers.
>>
>>29302528
Yep. Nobody aside from the Kurds it's really happy with this declaration. It was a very hasty and inconsequent move from the Rojava administration. One thing is being a de facto autonomous region, the other is write that federal autonomy on paper by yourself.

The Kurds probably wanted to try and show themselves as the leading party on Syria that are more compromised with a stable democratic process for the future of the country, trying to catch more external support with it.

They wanted to look good with it, but ended burning themselves.
>>
>>29302695
its not that the Kurds are chaotic, but a Kurdish state in Iraq would make kurds in Syria/Iran and Turkey to want to declare independence and join them.

Turkey would see a third of its land and I believe a quarter of its population leave, with Iran and Syria loosing less people and land than Turkey, but also having to contend with the fact that they've lost territory and population (and possibly strategic resources if the Kurds are living next to oil deposits).

An independent Kurdistan would lead to civil wars in most countries that have Kurds, that or the massive loss of land and people to a new state which won't have the money or manpower to properly govern their new territories for a while unless a major power (which would already have ties to the countries that lost land and people) steps in and helps them.
>>
>>29302528
>while Russia said that the Kurds would have to discuss such matters in the peace talks before making a decision.
The whole reason they did this is because they were excluded from the peace talks because Ankara is immensely asspained over the fact the Syrian Kurds are helping fuel Turkish Kurd separatism
>>
>>29302695
Correct. I'm sorry to go into politics, but all the Assad supporters were bragging that the Kurds were 100% super buddies with Assad because they were working together in North Aleppo.

In the meantime, during all of that, the government delegation in Geneva clearly said that they will not tolerate any kind of division of the Syrian territory.

It all boils down to politics and interests

>>29302756
Very hasty indeed.
Okay, we knew this was coming, the Kurds were always looking forward to become autonomous. But to me, such a declaration at this time comes way too soon. Sure they control most of their territory, but the country is still in the middle of a war.

I agree with the government and the opposition, this will have a huge impact on Syria as whole. Such a decision can't be made lightly.

>>29302777
True, but the Kurds also have always wanted to establish their autonomous territory.

Just saying, I am not against the Kurds getting a bit more slack (they have had it rough). But such a decision can't be simply taken during a war.

Batshit tinfoil theory time:
You know how Hinduism isn't so much one form of worship, but a "big tent" pantheon for a variety of Aryan gods and Dravidian gods that each have their own little cult of worshippers? I think Yazidism could descend from one of the sub-cults of whatever kind of pagan system Iranians had before the reforms of Zarathustra. Yazidism could be a distant cousin of the Roman-era Mitra cult, which itself was a remnant of Iran's pre-Zarathustran paganism.

my understanding is that they have about 30k all told, with nusra and other groups making up another 5 or 6k. 20k casualties would be huge.
For comparison the wiki is putting the numbers of iraqi insurgents during the war in iraq at 3-7k.
Ive also heard speculation that russian involvement would (or has) dissuaded more fighter from joining IS in syria, and that new IS groups popping up elsewhere might be siphoning off people who would have otherwise went to syria.

All of this is very speculative though. I would bet that ISIS doesnt know how many fighters are in ISIS.

Thought I would add some things as the day ends:

-According to pro rebel sources, the SAA sent 150 men from Al Hasakah to Deir Ez Zor in hopes of pushing further and linking up with the forces in Palmyra to break the siege. Just like R. updater mentioned earlier.

-Clashes between the rebels and Ansar Al Aqsa, an ISIS affiliate, in the city of Inkhil in Daraa.

-Russian airstrikes target ISIS positions in Al Raqqa and Palmyra.

-SAA operations against rebels have been pretty much halted today. Things seem calm on the fronts, even in the Qalamon which was hot all this time.
The exception is the Eastern Ghouta. The SAA continues its attempt to encircle the rebels in the Marj Al Sultan area. Jaish Al Islam is putting up a fight.

Picture is from a pro rebel source showing that the SAA is 1.5 km away from encircling the area.
>>
>>29303616
>blue area
>contested
Marj itself is well within SAA territory in East Ghout and actually being used as the central point for advances. I think that rebel map is a bit too rebel firendly.

Anyway, East Ghouta is a tough nut to crack. If this god forsaken war ever ends, it will be one, if not THE last place to fall to the rebels (hypothetically, if the war goes well for Assad and he somehow manages to unite the country)
>>
>>29303711
It does not say that it is contested, just that it was taken more recently than the rest.
This rebel source is actually quite good.
>>
>>29303731

Is that the usual rebel maps I see use the colour scheme I said.
>>
>>29303743
No problem and no need to be sorry, can't blame you for speculating. Stay frosty!

Like you said, the Eastern Ghouta is a tough nut to crack. The rebels have a huge amount of experience and manpower.
Even if they manage to encircle them things will get more interesting. Areas around Damascus that were cut off have been managing for quite some time.
>>
>>29303850
The funny thing with Ghouta is that it will only get harder and harder.
The rebels have nowhere to go, like in Latakia or Aleppo. They'll just stay there, more and more concentrated, more and more weary of impending death, and will fight harder and harder as their territory shrinkens. Not to the last men, but close to that.
>>
>>29303876
Yeah I definitely see that happening, although not anytime soon.
The Eastern Ghouta has also a big grudge against Assad.

>>
There is a lot going on in Syria right now. Most on IS fronts. Every IS front but Deir Ezzor has reported combat and airstrikes. Latest from Palmyra is no change in lines forward or backward, heavy airstrikes and casualties on both sides. The main action is in southwest Palmyra around Arin hill and also north west of the city.

-IS trying to counter attack FSA gains in northern Aleppo.

-IS also launching attacks on YPG in northern Raqqa and parts of Hasakah province as US airstrikes are ongoing.
I'll check back in much later to follow up.
>>
>>29309240
Two more things:
Terrorist bombing in Istanbul Turkey today.
Large advances made by the SAA in Deir Ezzor south of the airbase have been meet by little to no resistance from IS. Deir Ezzor SS is saying IS has so much manpower tied up trying to fend off YPG/SDF they have abandon parts of Deir Ezzor leaving it wide open for the SAA.
>>
>>29309265
More than likely, ISIS forces south of Deyr-ez-Zor, where the advance is happening, are tied up in Palmyra.

The left bank of the river is still an ISIS bulwark, and in Baghylia the SAA can't even put a dent in them.

>>
>>29309265
The counterattack seems to be working well for ISIS initially as pro rebel sources claim that ISIS recaptured (again) Jakkah from rebels in Northern Aleppo.
>>
>>29309289
And Islamist seem to take these protests to mean that they want a secular government (which they do, they don't say it explicitly but its implied) so they have banned them, by doing them anyway the people are giving them the middle finger and that is why Jabbat al Nusra, Jaish al Islam, Jund al Aqsa etc. Are so buttblasted, they see it as a rebellion or disobedience against them.

>Latest from Palmyra is no change in lines forward or backward,
Still holds true. The recap for today was 18 killed IS in airstrikes amide 80 plus airstrikes and IS claims to have destroyed a tank and two BMPs claiming they killed 15.

-IS claims taking a couple of villages near Markada vs YPG

-IS claims thwarted FSA progress in northern Aleppo by repelling their attack at Jakkah and one other village

FSA still holds most of their recent gains in northern Aleppo so this is still a ongoing seasaw of loses and recaptures. It also means the FSA finally hit a nerve and IS is starting to counter them.
>>
A few points:

-Pro SAA and pro rebel sources are reporting SAA progress in the Qalamon against ISIS, that would be near Al Qaryatayn.
Al Masdar reports that the SAA advanced to seize hilltops South West of Al Qaryatayn.

-Things are pretty calm between the SAA and rebels except in the Western and Eastern Ghouta where the Syrian airforce conducted airstrikes today.

-According to pro rebel sources, the rebels tidied things up in the city of Inkhil after killing the Ansar Al Aqsa leader of the group that infiltrated the city. Ansar Al Aqsa are accused of being an ISIS affiliate.
