You'd have to buy hundred of thousands of these units. At the cheapest they'd essentially be rifle mounted cameras with an aiming reticle. At best they'd be smart computers mounted to a soldier's uniform. Very expensive either way.

If the external aiming system/accuracy hud gets broken then you're firing blind. Irons aren't very capable past close-medium range for the average soldier.

They'd require large battery packs to be carried by soldiers. Forget to charge it and you're fucked. Runs out in the field and you're screwed. Red dots require very small batteries that last a LONG time and are far more cost effective. ACOG's and some other sites don't even need batteries to operate.

Let's say you give an idiot this system. He doesn't shoulder his rifle and his shots are fucked. He can't hold the rifle well, fired full retard, and after 3 mags all he did was kill a local goat-light. Training someone to properly fire their rifle is much better, and has less chance of failure.
