USAF intel is actually very aviation related. I'm operations intelligence, 1N0X1, and our entire tech school is around making us an intel troop for a fighter squadron. We are the guys that give pre-mission briefs. We analyze threats in the area to aircrews. We debrief pilots after missions. We write the MISREP. However, the 1N0 career field is hilariously broad and very few of us actually do that, though we are all trained to. A lot of 1N0s work in a DGS and analyze information, create reports, and brief higher ups. I am actually a mission intelligence coordinator for a reaper squadron; I still write MISREPS and I still do pre mission briefs, but I sit along on the missions and act as a relay for communications via mirc (most RPA ops are coordinated via mirc, an IRC). We also help the flight crew with whatever they need us to, whether it is writing down 9-lines or getting them a cup of coffee. We're not flight crew, but we're not not flight crew. It's a pretty sweet gig, but I would never do it as active duty because I don't want to get stationed at Creech kek

I think the short answer to the question is that
1. People don't like to actively decide to murder hundreds of thousands of civilians so military action pretty much has to be this pretend were killing only bad guys type of thing.
2. The different countries of the world all have their interests but mainly the US is viewed as a major antagonist pretty much anywhere now. So an incredibly ruthless attack might trigger other sections of the world to fight.
3. The current conflict is against ideology. It's not really something you can take away from people by force. You have to make them ineffective. Usually democracy sorts that fairly well by making it hard to implement the ideology that's opposed. And a revolution against a western nation seems rather unfeasible through things like immigration. So while terrorism is a problem which you have to work towards preventing it's not about open warfare at all.
4. Just pulling out and not doing anything else would be very problematic. UN would probably send in more peacekeeping troops which alleviates the situation but there's no reliable governing in the region so you'd just have a lot of groups struggling for power ruthlessly. Which reflects poorly on the US and anyone else who was involved.
The world is too complex. It'd be nice if us mortals could have the time to engage in the details of every conflict but it's not feasible. It takes a lot of time and that's why we rely on political speakers.

Yes. I absolutely think most people could understand the conflicts if everyone presented their investment in the situation and why they're doing as they're doing. But it's not in their self interest (according to their perception anyway) or they'd do just that, be honest.

Well you have to look at other places in the world. There's plenty of places that aren't all that bad either. And if let's say we rewinded time to before the Gulf War. And decided to find some kind of diplomatic settlement to the situation instead (because the US was incredibly reliant on oil back then and that's pretty much the catalyst, it could be solved). It may not have been directly in the US favor (though I haven't done the math, perhaps it wasn't in the first place) but certainly if the Iraq war, 9/11 etc didn't happen then you're likely way better off.
The US has a lot of capacity to sustain itself peacefully and I'm confident that if you shifted the resources from the war into internal investment you'd be far better off right now. Like really, Scandinavian countries do have a lot speaking against them politically. They're not ruthless in their actions at all and have a population which is heavily engaged in matters that do not benefit them on a national level (concerns are more global). But they still do fine despite that. Imagine what the US could do with the same disregard for others as it has now but just focus on the long term effects and preventing war.
World domination is just around the corner then. And it wouldn't even be that bad a thing.

And my lack of stress combined with the lack of stress from citizens like us would allow us to be more productive and proactive and make the world a better place, instead of slaving away to pay our debts so we can afford to get shit faced to make slaving away more tolerable.
This is pretty much what i believe needs to happen as far as the US is concerned.

I agree completely. Not sure about the specifics of where savings on war efforts would be distributed (don't know that much about US internal politics because I'm a foreigner) but regardless it's a gain unless the uses for the money is bad.
I believe that the more governing happens at a local level the better. Not only does that permit competition between sub-states (I think state level is a bit big, looking from the outside anyway) which would encourage competitive policy rather than these large political decisions that sweep the country with both indeterminate and varying effect and more specific action can be taken to maximize 'value fulfillment' (whatever they want out of life).
So the ultimate goal is anarchy if that could function.

Statewide isnt that big of a zone desu, it sounds to me like you support the idea of county/ward based governments, which already exist, but as a civilian i think it could use some improvement.
For example where i live, having weed on you is a jail sentence, and depending on the officers mood that day, having weed accessories is aswell. Now if i hop in my car and drive south for 20 minutes, i can have a maximum of an ounce of weed before its punishable, and even then its only a $50 fine, which is less than a speeding ticket.
Now on the other side of the coin, in making that same 20minute drive, open carrying my /k/'s or not having a concealed weapons permit is insta jail time.
This type of extreme varied ruling makes it hard for anyone that commutes outside of their town to keep track of ruling. Only foreseeable benefit js being able to say "well fuck these rules" and moving 20 minutes away to a place with better rules that fit your lifestyle.

Yeah the law would be hard go follow in those cases. The idea I have is more than ultimately if everyone were nice people and didn't mean harm anarchy would be the best because everyone gets to choose. But it's not feasible. You'd need some governing body I think for just such things like criminal prosecution and justice (likely all drugs would be legal). On a more local level stuff like social services would be funded by the local community, outsourced or insourced.
But yeah I think County level is probably my preference realistically. But I hold a lot of libertarian (the philosophy) views on things and believe people should be allowed to fuck up. Doesn't mean I don't want to help them, just means I don't want to force anyone to help them. And that's another discussion entirely.
