Have a chance to buy a kimber custom II from a coworker he said the gun is perfect and he's only shot 250 rounds threw it he's asking 700
Is this a good price? Are they any good? Quick Google search says the gun goes for 1400 new
Guess he's getting rid of it because his ex gave it to him and he just do sent want it anymore
>>
>>29270703
Honestly Kimber is pretty shit.

Any Phillipines made 1911 will be just as good if not better for half the price.
>>
>>29270774
What's so bad about kimber? I've never owned a handgun only long arms. I've always heard kimber is pretty top tier stuff
>>
>>29270774
>im a poorfag the post
>spewing the kimber maymays

>>29270703
$700 is a decent price, not he best kimbers are pretty common
>>
>>29270786
their barrels are shit tier metal for the price they charge new, other than that they are great
>>
>>29270703

Yes, $700 is a good price. Kimbers aren't bad, they're just overrated and over priced; but for $700 its a bargain.
>>
>>29270789
Are they any better then any other 1911 or is it all in the name
>>

>>29270786
No kimber quality is shit these days.
>>
>>29270789
I actually owned a Kimber, a Philipino, a couple springers, and now a Baer.

Kimber is shit unless original Kallack.

I got rid of my stainless Kimber because the barrel kept rusting.

So yeah I would definitely recommend a Phillipine made 1911 before a kimber.
>>
>>29270786
They use some pretty shit tier MIM parts and their barrels are garbage as far as material.

Not all MIM is shit but Kimber's seem to be.
>>
>>29270805
>>29270864
But is it shit quality for 700?
But more importantly will it fail on me and have major problems and I would have wasted 700 dollars it really don't bother me if it ain't a perfect gun or that it won't take getting run over by a tank
>>
>>29270838
I've heard some good things about the Philippino 1911s but I've heard they have had some heat treating problems
>>
>>29270796
Was thinking about later on doing the 460 Rowland conversion anyway

Where can I find that grip safety? I really fucking want one that gradually gets bigger instead of this "Speed hump" shit.

Also, it's a good deal for a kimber
>For A Kimber
>>
Just get a fully loaded Rock Island Armory 1911.
>>
>>29271907
That will beat a kimber to fucking death.
>>
>>29271907
Are their frames rated for that round? I mean I assume they would be, but this is Kimber.

Op I wouldn't do it for 700 but it's your money.
>>
>>29271914
Yep another Phillipino vote
>>
>>29270703
I have a custom II and I love it, $700 is a good price. They're highly accurate, I'm able to easily hit 100yd target.
>>
>>29271957
Of what size chuckles?
>>
Decent price but not amazing. I'd take it as a cash under the table deal.
>>
>>29271957
I don't think anyone is debating accuracy, but rather the quality.

Although this claim seems pretty absurd.

Yet

Give it a couple years and your alloy frame will crack, especially with +p
>>
>>29270703
For that price range throw a few more bottle caps and get a Springfield Loaded or Colt. Kimber isnt on my list and other 1911's would be purchased before that model even though it does sound like a good deal
>>
>>29271957
>I can hit a target of unspecified size at a distance that sounds impressive
I can slam an 18x24 plate at 100 all day with every gun I own. Even my Taurus snubby .38
>>
>>29272288
Snub nose at 100yrds all day? Would like to see this. Internet claims without proof. How long have u been shooting?
>>
>>29270703

You couldn't get me to spend money on a post-2002 Kimber for anything. You couldn't fucking PAY me to own a post-2006 one. Their quality has gone to absolute shit in those years. We're not talking about internet autism, we're talking about BLATANT manufacturing process defects and workmanship faults.

There was a time Kimber was a hell of a name in the 1911 game. True semi-custom quality for downright reasonable prices. Not so much anymore.
>>
>>29272347
Any real reason why it's they cost so much? Or is it all the name
Would I be better of getting a Springfield or a colt at a 700 dollar price range?

No.
Kimbers are shitgarbage.
Especially the ones people are selling at lower than market.
Guaranteed lemon among lemons.
>>
>>29272515
See >>29272283

Buy a brand new Colt 70/XSE/Competition Pisrol or the Springfield Mil Spec/Loaded. Again not my money but if in the market would not buy a Kimber. If your willing to save several more caps look at Dan Wesson
>>
>>29272316
>On an 18x24" target
I specified size in that post.

And I have been shooting handguns for six years.
>>
>>29272762
>>29272316
I also posted a video of me shooting the same target with my p228, double action, upside down, with my pinky
>>
>>29271827
A Springfield Loaded is around that price and is probably more reliable than whatever Kimber shits out these days

The only thing mine doesn't like is HP's, other than that, it's been solid.

At about 700 rounds right now, no rust, no issues, because I actually take care of my shit.
>>
>>29273345
My colt feeds anything from anything.
wide mouth HPs from a 15rd promag(the shittiest of shit mags)? sure
rusty steel case tulashit from a run over milsurp 7rd hammered back to shape? no problem
and my 1911 turns 100 years old in 3 months
your kimber will be a paper weight by the end of the decade
the fucking thing has been shot so much its almost smooth bore
but what kind of judgement can i expect from someone who would pay actual money for a gsg anything?
>>
>>29273345
700 rounds

Get back to us at 5k and 10k

I had mine for 3 or so years and it was my first pustol. I cleaned and oiled it just for fun sometimes and the barrel still got plenty of rust on it. Again it was a STAINLESS model.

Kimber is way overpriced these days for a name that used to be great.
>>
>>29273345
Mine
>cost $350
>feeds winchester/herters/federal/blazer FMJ no problem
>feeds gold dot/XTP/HST hollop points
>with a light feed ramp polish job feeds empty fucking casings from the mag
>rings steel out to 100 yards if I do my job
>has no rattle

That was stock, aside from feed ramp, now it's at the $490 mark and it cas still do those things but with a 4.5lb trigger

>>29271913
Is the newest picture of it.
>>
You can buy them new for 750 all day. Guarantee he is selling it because it doesn't work consistently.

I'd give 300 for it and be prepared to send it back to kimber for work.

Save 300 more bucks and just buy a colt or Springfield.
>>
>>29274263
Or
>learn to do your own super basic gunsmithing (using the term loosely)
>buy a cheap gun from a less known manufacturer or get a used frame and slide
>buy quality pars that don't include plastic fucking MSH and for a hundred or so more make a properly fitted quality pistol
>and learn a shit ton in the process

>putting time and quality parts into what is, ultimately, a shitty cast frame and slide with shitty tolerances

You'd be better off building from scratch. It's daunting but it should be. No part of replacing 1911 is 'super basic.' Just about everything has to be fitted and if you don't know exactly what you're doing and exactly what the potential consequences are, you're going to produce an unsafe weapon.
>>
>>29272239
Funny thing was, I had the choice of that or the p238 but the micro felt better in my hand.
>>
>>29274596
>No part of replacing 1911 is 'super basic.' Just about everything has to be fitted
Fitting parts is basic as fuck. Fitting a new trigger or grip safety to a 1911 is a joke. Only hard part is an oversized barrel that needs fitting/mating to the gun.
>>
See if it has any damage that would make it unsafe to shoot. If not then go and sell it to some dumbass gun shop for a good price or say 1k-1.1k. Scope out some places that have a lot of kimbers because that'll be your best bet.

>>29274650
Yeah, removing metal is basic. Doing it well, and and understanding every aspect of what you're doing, is not. There's a reason a full custom 1911 costs several thousands of dollars and there's a reason plenty of competent kitchen table 'smiffs are willing to pay it.

Building an AR, comparatively, is a joke.
>>
>>29274716
You seem to be talking about re-profiling sears and the like, which is serious business and the #1 way to make a gun unsafe.

I'm talking about fitting the components into the frame and just buying a hammer/sear/disconnector set that's made by a good company.
>>
>>29274768
A 'match set' still need to be fitted, man. *Especially* in a cheap Filipino frame cast to god-knows-what specifications.

I've unfucked more than a few cheap 1911s. Trust me when I say you're better off starting from scratch.
>>
>>29270703
Can anyone ID the grip safety in this image? Or is that a style with a specific name?

I would imagine you can buy one straight from Kimber but they're shit quality MIM pot metal and Kimber has a proprietary radius on the tangs. AFAIK they're all the same. Kimber doesn't sell generic replacement parts like Ed Brown and Wilson. At best, you can only buy them as replacements for broken parts on an existing Kimber.

You can get standard grip safeties without the memory bump, they just don't stick out as far as the Kimber.
>>
>>29275022
>has a proprietary radius on the tangs
That's gay as fuck.

I like the extra height of the speed bump, but I don't like the look, that kimber safety is perfect appearance wise.

I swear I saw a Bear with the same thing.
>>
>>29275022

>>29275449
Yeah. That one doesn't stick out as much as the Kimber though.
>>
>>29275495
Yeah, but it's close and the .250 should fit with relatively little work, then it's all cosmetic.
