This. I live in Edmonton, and there was a spot near the city, apparently, that was a rare piece of Crown (public) land. However, the RCMP banned people from shooting there, since they pulled the same crap. Garbage everywhere. Now people have to go to Wildwood or similar distances. You're a good guy OP. I've been shooting my whole life on private land because there's no public shooting land in Texas really. But even on private the motto is leave it better than you found it. The landowners typically make it exclusively your spot after a while because they notice a difference.

Hell I do the same thing. I like to shoot on forest service land. I'll lay out a tarp to catch the shells and bring a couple of extra trash bags with. Last time out I picked up an antifreeze jug, spent grease tubes, parts to a chain saw, several bottles, and tons of slim jim wrappers. I've got a big van so I've got the room plus a dumpster at work for it to go. It sucks and it's bullshit but good for you to do so.

My local PD has a range on public land. It used to be open to the public. Rednecks started dumping unwanted appliances and such at the range. Not even shooting them, just dumping them. Some asshole and his friends bought a blue teddy bear and a toy police gear set at the dollar store. They stapled the bear in his police gear to the target holder. Fuck picking up casings and hulls, if they happen to land in a neat pile up grab anything that's convenient but otherwise no. Every time I shoot on public land I leave with at least one contractor bag full of waste that wasn't mine, and frequently enough electronics waste that the local free recycling spot staff have literally all asked me if I have anger issues. When anyone else can manage to clean up after themselves I'll worry about hulls and steel.

I worked reverse logistics for awhile which meant dealing with the building's recycling. It would all end up in lined gaylords for storage between shipments and whenever I saw saw something in the wrong bag I would just throw the bag in the compactor because you literally got graded on the recycling you sent back but no concerns were ever raised about the quantities. One bag of properly sorted recycles in a given category gave you a better score than a full bin with one incorrect piece in the whole lot.

I use a club field archery target range that is on crown land.
We can hold a three day competition with ninety archers and end up with no litter on the ground.
Come back a week later and the target buts have been shredded by shot gun pellets and there are beer cans, shot shells, McDonald's wrappers and piles of human shit all over the place.
