Is it possible for a single well trained, well informed assassin to disable a battleship?

Perhaps swimming up close with scuba gear, boarding up the side, and then killing one of the crew members for his uniform?

Then proceeding to sneak into the engine room to do some sabotage, permanently crippling the ship and disabling it. Or maybe taking out the ship's electrical system. Or blowing the weapons cache. Or poisoning the food so the crew members all die. Or taking out the navigational and communications system so the ship is directionless.

Then with a job well done, slipping back into the water before the crew knows what hit them.

What are the single points of failure on a large warship? Or an aircraft carrier? How much damage could a well-informed, well-trained saboteur actually do?

If you were planning such an operation, what would your strategy be?

If he got really lucky then I guess it's maybe possible, otherwise no.
>>
I would use an anti ship missile. Don't even have to get out of my bath robe and slippers to push the button either.

Go home ISIS, you know you don't even know how to swim
>>
Why not just attach a limpet mine?

Also, the navy has procedures for preventing SCUBA divers from fucking their shit.

>Laugh when Jihaddy John attempts to scuba dive up to an aircraft carrier
>Laughing harder when he realizes he has to swim by all the escorts
>Laugh harder when sonar murders the shit out of him.

>swimming up close with scuba gear

>past the murderous attack dolphins

>past the eyeball-exploding active sonar

>breach the surface of the water without creating a heat signature on the thermal cameras that tell masters-at-arms which side exactly off the ship they need to start dropping concussion grenades to make frogman salsa

>Climb up the side

>killing someone that belongs in the engine room before sneaking into the engineering

>implying the culinary specialist you murder on his smoke break won't get immediately challenged if he tries going into engineering or the magazine

>doing all this while concealing a bag of demolition explosives or deadly poison

Stop reading so many spy novels OP.

more importantly, battleships haven't been militarily relevant since 1945

10/10 you had me at frogman salsa

This jackass is going to try to sneak aboard one of those battleship turned museums and get ganked by a 90 year old with a .45

The plug on the bottom, like on a bathtub. Pull it out and the ship fills with water and sinks.

>How much damage could a well-informed, well-trained saboteur actually do?
Against a vehicle? A single AP2 penetrating hit and an auto 6 for critical damage. Saboteurs are alpha as fuck.

It would probably go down like this

>Swim up to the ship
>board it from the starboard side, put on your U.S Marine uniform with Corporal rank your dead drop operative left for you
>throw the evidence off the ship, stroll casually into the corridors
>get yelled at and called a faggot for 4 hours straight by some bored gunnery sgts
>get told to "unfuck yourself and fix your nasty cover" by a staff sgt, secretly radio in to see if this message can be deciphered
>nobody in your black op knows anything the marines are saying, it all comes off as gibberish and where to buy dip and cigarettes
>start talking with the corporals about how this MEU deployment is bullshit and you wont see any combat
>get NJP'd for out of regs mustache
>give up and hang out with the lance corporals talking about how you cant wait until you EAS

>tfw it was a USN black op.

No. Just find a way to demoralize the crew and they will sabotage themselves. Like get in fights with them in town and get them on restriction.
>>
They wouldn't have to be trained. We have an inactive navy (not the decommissioned ships)and its secured by chain link fence.
>>
>>29262870

Yes, there have been incidents in which non-military personel were able to sneak on a ship as stowaways and stolen military uniforms while sleeping in remote areas of the ship. Although there have been no sabotage attempts in the incidents I am talking about.

It took one woman to dismantle the head of the CIA and former head of ISAF. So yeah doesn't have to be tactical espionage action, just find a CO who thinks with his head and not his brain

Op you might want to read up on Marquis Luigi Durand De La Penne and his saboteurs assault in Alexandria during WW2.
He was an Italian navy special force operator, led two teams of two scuba divers inside Alecandria and they sunk in the harbor (so, disabled for 2 years) two British Battleships by placing explosive charges.
