>>29260661
>Are watches fedora?
No, they're a sign of being a man instead of a boy.
Yes, watches are the fedora meme.
Meme, meme, meme, meme, meme, meme, meme
Everything is a meme, especially these meme wrist fedoras.
>>29260661
I need this in case of operating in a land filled with elvws, orcs, dragon and shit
>>29260661

That's not their official watch.
>>29260661
Holy fuck all that effort avoiding eating burnt stuff and this post just gave me cancer
>>29260661
If you have to ask strangers on 4chan whether or not your purchases fit into a subset of fashion only acknowledged by losers online it's probably too late for you anyway.
Seriously though, if you want a watch buy one. It's nice to not rely on your phone being charged to be punctual.

Last time I checked a fedora was a fedora and a watch was a watch. One you wear on your head, the other don't.

>>29260661
I actually like that watch a lot, I usually hate things like that, but it looks cool.
>>29260661
I like a good watch but I only buy 20 buck watches every few years. Why? Because I often go to poor countries or ghettos and I'm too much of a creature of habit to have a travel watch
>>29261931
Simple, cheap, accurate. Don't really need anything else. Works with anything I wear
>>29262831
Can you braid your arm hair into cornrows?
Jesus, I'd go for a leather band rather than getting that fur stuck in between the links on that fake rolly
>>29262930
>i can't afford it therefore it must be fake.
Rolex is a solid brand of sports watches that makes their own movements, putting them ahead of most other watch manufacturers who get the same Swatch Group ETA movements.
>>29262793
i wish it came in a 40mm case
>>29262793
Nothing wrong with the Seiko 5 series. I guess people think you're trying to be military or something. I got my watch because I wanted to be able to tell time without needing to pull my phone out and I like automatics.
I'm pretty sure that the real autism watch people think of is anything from Casio/digital/calculator watch

>>29263206
Automatics are the /k equivalent of a wheelgun. So much less than the alternatives and should be replaced by the more modern options.
>>29263357
watches are now either luxury products and status symbols, cheap and functional ugly little things, or monstrosities of wearable tech.
so of the three i'd rather get myself a nice automatic.
>>29263357
and there are plenty of people that shoot, collect, and enjoy wheel guns.
just because its not personally interesting doesnt mean it automatically loses all merit.

>>29262062
Small watches make your wrist look larger. Modern watches are much too large. Vintage watches have much more reasonable sizes, similar to the size of the f91w.

That accusation shows us why you bought it. You think you are better than others because of your money, or what you own. Pretty pathetic having to buy things to lull yourself into believing you are somehow better. Also watches are fedora as fuck, everyone (including little kids) owns a phone these days, with access to all time zones, that is kept accurate by being connected to your carrier. Timers, alarms, etc. The only reason to wear a watch is for fashion, and you are the H3 Hummer of watchfags. Fuck you are a faggot.

>>29288531
Exactly!
Why is it so har to get a decent non-cluttered practical watch?? Mil related you do not want to suffer information overload just simply because you are trying to find out what time it is!
What I want is
White face plate for legibility
Tritium source for NVE compatible illumination
Zero clutter
Well spaced display of day, date and month, illuminated by a tritium source
A large face with a solid protection ring rather than large surface where the ring takes up most of the area
>>29289666
>day, date and month
Why? Even if you're a NEET not knowing the month/ day is rather pathetic.
>>29289697
Back in the day when I served we would work across midnight. A display that showed date, ISO style, would have been useful.
Sure, we arm chair generals (I am civilian now) have no problems checking the time. However when you have been working under heavy stress for days you will begin to make mistakes that otherwise would seem silly. That is what I want to bring up here (it is /k/, right) and point out that existing watches do not address.
Pathetic you say. Have you served?
>>29287176
Eh, depends on the watch and the application. Casio makes one of those watches that you can put on, not remove for a decade and never have a problem.
>>29289827
A Flieger, much less an automatic would not be a practical choice for mil use. There's no tangile benefits of analog when alternatives by Casio and Suunto exist.
If it's a daily wear watch, month/day would be too cluttered.
>>29289666
No one makes what you want. Let me explain why.
>White face plate [dial] for legibility
There are both white and fully lumed dials
>Tritium source for NVE compatible illumination
There are watches with tritium tubes, which I assume aren't strong enough to wash out NVGs if that's what you refer to. Tritium mixed paint was phased out decades ago for strontium aluminate based photoluminescents.
>Zero clutter
Either subjective or displays too little information, certainly can't have everything you demand and /zero/ clutter at the same time.
>Well spaced display of day, date and month, illuminated by a tritium source
Pic related and the way Patek Philipes modern Annual calendars display it seems to be what you want - but few if any have it illuminated. What might be possible is to have the display wheels coated / 'inveserly printed' with luminescent. That'd be spelled out It'd make a whole lot more sense to just get a casio that displays the date in ISO standard.
>A large face with a solid protection ring rather than large surface where the ring takes up most of the area
Large dial with a small bezel?
Possible although rarely durable to have a tiny bezel and it looks larger than it is while worn. Bezel protects the crystal and specially the sides of the crystal. For a watch to be waterproof it needs some isolation and material that clamps it down around the edge of the crystal. Hence why dive watches tend to have notably large bezels.
After reading what you want, pic related really comes to mind although it's far from the first thing I'd imagine someone OPERATING with.
>>29262826
I had an Expedition with the leather band. Loved that fucking watch.

>>29289856

Much appreciated.
>There are both white and fully lumed dials
I have seen a fully lumed dial on a planishpere novelty watch. That was too much. Also garish!
>There are watches with tritium tubes, which I assume aren't strong enough to wash out NVGs if that's what you refer to. Tritium mixed paint was phased out decades ago for strontium aluminate based photoluminescents.
Night vision equipment compatibility relates both to strength as well as wavelength of the colour. Tritium mixed paint sounds strange, I am more familiar with sealed tubes coated with a fluorescent material.
>Either subjective or displays too little information, certainly can't have everything you demand and /zero/ clutter at the same time.
Agree it is subjective, however the pic you provide is rather tidy
>Pic related and the way Patek Philipes modern Annual calendars display it seems to be what you want - but few if any have it illuminated. A tube along upper edge is all it takes.
>Large dial with a small bezel?
Yes. Small but deep for protection.

For a watch to be waterproof it needs some isolation and material that clamps it down around the edge of the crystal. Hence why dive watches tend to have notably large bezels.

>>29289856
>A Flieger, much less an automatic would not be a practical choice for mil use. There's no tangile benefits of analog when alternatives by Casio and Suunto exist.
I would prefer an analogue face (and digital timekeeping) but a digital face is still OK with me as long as it is tidy. Too many look like jukeboxes, though Suunto looks better. Not sure about MV compatibility.
The new generation digital watches can be nice but I do not like the way they have to be recharged every day.
>If it's a daily wear watch, month/day would be too cluttered.
That is a matter of preferences.

I fly (pulling G's) with my Rolexes.
Though perhaps I ought to retire them in favor of a non-automatic like a Speedmaster Professional

let's just say Uncle Sam keeps his fighter jet intel, tactics, and capabilities pretty secret.

Nice, I wanted to get a Steinhart Diver, but I might look for this one instead.
Mine is a cheap Lorus RF851DX9 - it's a lovely design. I also have a Seiko 5, but I wear the Lorus mostly.
Citizen Nighthawk
>>29263862
That Seiko might look fine with whatever clothing, the problem is that you are brushing against random crap all day. I type at work and it's uncomfortable to have a watch on.
>>29262793
What are the outer numbers?
Can watches actually measure anything useful other than time?
Compasses on them are ALWAYS shit.
>>29293959
>what are the outer numbers
Please tell me you're joking
>can watches actually measure something other than time
Sure. Mine can do a whole lot, provided you know how to read it (and your eyesight is good enough)

Just google up "full lume dial".
I have no idea if current production tritium tubes work well with NVG, but I'm pretty sure someone with poor taste and money enough has tried looking at their Luminox through it and posted about it somewhere.
With zero clutter, I think Jungans Max Bill (stick dial nodate) tier.
Having one or several tubes along the top edge would add at /least/ 1.5mm, but probably 2-3mm to the height and that combined with the other things you request makes so tall that it could impossibly clear the cuff of any sleeve - something people might want for daily use and definitely affects the marketability of the product. Hence why full lume datewheel etc would be more practical even if expensive to manufacture.
"Deep for protection"
Might want to elaborate on that. Bezel going taller than the crystal?
I find that watch elegant too, but it's pretty damn large and hefty. Though not as hefty in size as the price - roughly 15k in steel, a lot more in solid white / rose gold. Kind of a fancy, complicated and updated version of what Tom allegedly wore in Collateral.
Pic related shows day, date and month as well as a stopwatch with a tachymeter. :^)

The Alpinist is beautiful. You won't be disappointed.
Pic related soon. Just need to find an AD that isn't 300+ miles away.
fite me

I wasn't. Listing seconds like that seems silly as fuck, but I guess that's what it is because I can't find anything on google and it's the retardedly obvious answer.
>>29260661
No, some of us actually have jobs where we can't bring personally electronics into work.
And anyway people who use their phone as the exclusive method of telling time are idiot children.
>>29294962
Who ever said watches need to be electronic?
>>29294914
Well yes it would work for seconds but it's supposed to be minutes.

How are Junkers watches? Ive been looking at one but the reviews said that the build quality is somewhat shoddy.

Bertucci field watch

great beater watch, you can do anything with it
not loud as fuck like the weekender either

Just did. Spent an hour. Thanks for the tips. Good idea, however many bad executions to be found.
>I have no idea if current production tritium tubes work well with NVG, but I'm pretty sure someone with poor taste and money enough has tried looking at their Luminox through it and posted about it somewhere.
I'll keep searching.

Looks nice and tidy but also looks fragile.

Look up trigalight. These are less than 1 mm across and still lights up well. A blue source should also stimulate a green lume.
>"Deep for protection"
>Might want to elaborate on that. Bezel going taller than the crystal?
Yes, that is the idea. I used equipment that had lugs that extended outwards to protect against accidents. There is a little bit more to it like providing a little leeway away from the glass etc.

I must commend you on your taste, fellow anon. Sadly my budget does not extend to Patek Pilippe. Or Ulysse Nardin which also has a few gems.

This is an image board so let me just add an example of bullet proof casing.
I have seen such a watch one, wonder why Omega doesn't make a new updated version.
>>29262793
Where did you get it. I can't get them in Switzerland ... What a shame!
This is my less bulky watch. I've got a fucking huge one back home, but I'm gonna try and get fit before I wear that fucker. It'd look like I was wearing a brick if I wore it now.
no but please wear a based nato strap
COSMO-OPERATOR

MDV-106, it's legit. Got one for my dad last year and it's really nice for $40.
>>29302409
What model?
>>29305438
Looks like a DW-5600, very solid watch.
Fight me I like it.
>>29264023
i have never seen a railroad wristwatch. only pocket watches and wall clocks. since the pocket watches had to be turned in to the master timekeeper [he set your watch, not you] i find it quite interesting. must be for a corporate officer/vp or something.
neat.
>>29294502
Get one pre-owned, Omega is a shell of its pre-swatch self.
>>29305677
Invicta is shit.
>>29305736
The accutron movement was one of the first wristwatch movements to be approved for railroad use, because it is electromechanical and it's accuracy is not as dependent on position. When it was new the accuracy was rated at 2s a day, which was much better than any mechanical movements available then.

I had a Timex expedition before this, but the date broke.

DW-5600E. Might do a nato strap mod, but the rubber strap felt better than I thought it would.

What is the best watch for going in the woods and operating?
>>29306852
CountyComm has them for $12.50, should fit the 5600 fine. There is a tutorial out there for modifying the case to accept 20mm nato straps with a Dremel tool and patience, but the adapter is easier and cheaper if you mess up the watch. http://mygshock.com/wiki/Mil-Shock_DIY_Modification

>tfw your mom bought you a really nice citizen for christmas 2 years ago
>shipped off the BMT
>left watch at home because unsure of what would happen
>come back after a year and watch is gone without a trace
Think some fucking maintenance guy at my apartment took it while I was gone.
>>29260661
Nothing personal, kid.
>>29307475
Is that woryh 500for hard operating or just a decirative range piece?
why do military issue watches insist on having a 13-24h dial? do am/pm fags not know how to count to 24?
>>29309444
I wonder the same. All those numbers just add up to clutter.
Not the best looking watch, but I wore this thing my whole time in the Army and, it still works considering all the shitty conditions it's been through. Still wearing it years after I've been out so its more for sentimental value than anything else.
>>29310319
OK, how was it in night vision gear?
>>29260661
I'd skip the Luminox and look at a Lum-Tec, Damasko or Marathon. That JDSF watch looks nice but a Timex Expedition is probably cheaper and better.
