Particularly Naval Action, but other games such as Squad are also welcome.
/k/ recently made a clan for naval action based on these threads and have been pretty successful.
You can see our current membership page and other useful naval action information on our doc which we expand regularly
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17qB9vz53dkSIiup7rs61Vf4W54qfGx3Tf2y16OJ3gxc/edit?usp=sharing
Any questions or help on how to get into /k/ related games you can post here and we'll help as much as we can, so far we've spend 200,000 gold in naval action on buying newbies equipment and ships.

So what's the deal with this game? Persistent world MMO based around 18th century navy battles? I might be interested but I don't see too much info online. Is it PvP?

Been thinking about getting DCS.
Is it breddy gud or will I need to devote college-level course time to it to learn it?
>>29258551
It was hard as fuck for me to even get the plane into the sky, i honestly cant see how people even manage to have a dogfight or really have fun besides with brain dead ai since the controls are ass, even if you'd have a joystick like i do they are out this world, and are incredibly frustrating.
>>29258551
It's fun as fuck, I have pretty much every module so feel free to ask specific questions.
DCS World itself is a free sim that comes with a map around the Black Sea, as well as Su-25T and TF-51 (noguns mustang) aircraft.
You basically just need a decent stick to get started, a used Saitek X-52 is a nice start. Decent proficency in most aircraft comes with time, I'm still absolute shit in the helicopters but have gotten to an acceptable skill with the AtA aircraft.
The A-10A F-15C, Su-25, Su-27, Su-33, and Mig-29 don't have all their cockpit buttons modeled so those might be a good start to for modules to buy. Easy to learn, hard t master.
All other aircraft (unless I'm forgetting some) are fully modeled or WIPs. For paid modules, the A-10C and Mig-21 are extremely fun aircraft to fly. The A-10C is currently the most capable AtG aircraft in the game (since no modern multiroles are presen until the F-14B and F/A-18 are added) and the Mig-21 is the most difficult, rewarding plane to fly online. The A-10C has a manual that's 500+ pages, I believe, but basic understanding of the systems can get you along just fine.
Once you start playing regularly, a TrackIR is probably the only other worthwhile investment, but a nicer stick/rudder combo could be good too if that's your preference.

Sweet. Got an X-52 Pro and am a longtime veteran of IL2'46 and the old Lock On sim from the DCS guys. Currently only using my HOTAS for heli jobs in Arma3.
Only recently built a beast of a rig that can run DCS at a high level which is why I'm looking in to it. DCS looks way more complex than the old LOMAC sim. Didn't want to drop coin on some modules and be overwhelmed. Would the Flaming Cliffs 3 module be a good one to start with?

definitely not a terrible idea to get the FC3 aircraft first, just don't think they represent what the entire game is. The Huey is also a very easy aircraft with only really steam gauges to worry about.

Battlestations: Pacific is an under rated game IMO. The weird sub plot is cheesy but you can control individual naval and air units in both Japanese and US campaigns (the Japanese one takes you from Pearl to the fictional fight for Hawaii). >What are the 1990s soviet prototypes ingame?
Are you asking me to list their entire airforce?
The majority of their recon tab?
Any of their gunships that aren't hinds?
>Loadout sucks, but AMRAAM is way more present than the R-77 is in that game i don't know what you are talking about.
The Soviet Union fields 5 cards of R-77 carriers.
SU-27PUx2, Yak-141, Mig-29M, and SU-27M
The United States fields only 3 cards of AMRAAM carriers, 2 cards of F-15Cs, and the F-16C block 52.
>Speaking of the R-77 and planes not having their loadout, why not give the MiG-31M 4 R-77s like it could actually carry?
It couldn't carry those until the 2000s and neither could most of those planes listed above you slavaboo fuck.
>why not give the MiG-31M 4 R-77s like it could actually carry?

Why does america have ballistic missiles, when the soviet union deployed them on a huge scale like Scud and Scarab?
Why is the ATACMS super accurate when the version in the game is a dumb fire missile with no guidance system?
Why is the Patriot in the game when the entire S-300 series isn't.
Why is the MBT-70 ingame, when all the failed prototype tanks of the soviet union made isn't, like object 187?

Because Eugen outsources all their modeling and doesn't like paying for new ones, so they just copied the M270 model and called it the ATACMS.
>Why is the ATACMS super accurate when the version in the game is a dumb fire missile with no guidance system?
For the same reason infantry can fire their RPGs at tanks from 875m, gameplay
>Why is the Patriot in the game when the entire S-300 series isn't.
This is pretty stupid and if Eugen actually knew how to make a game it wouldn't have been necessary seeing as the US should have uncontested air superiority to begin with.

Why does the Russian airforce hold a candle to the USAF?
Why are there more R-77s than AMRAAM in the USAF?
Why do Russian aircraft have comparable ECM?
Why is almost every Russian tank that is capable of firing a GLATGM is armed with one when this is never the case?
Why do Russian tanks have the same HP as tanks that have far higher penetration survival rates?
Would you rather US gets the MBT-70 or a 140mm, 12 RPM autoloader with medium stealth and A2-level armor?
Why does 125mm have more HE than a 120?
>We can go on if you feel like you're still a special snowflake that is being unfair treated by the Frogs.
The USSRs primary units are almost all prototypes. ACTUAL prototypes, not just given prototype tag. And even still have fantasy loadouts or stats, such as the BTR-90s amphib speed.

Reading old reviews and manuals for /k/ related games (mostly flight simulators) leaves me sad the USSR doesn't exist anymore. >>29258551
So, there's more or less three distinct eras of aircraft that you can fly in DCS. There's the WWII props, like the P-51 or FW-190. They are suicidal: they are constantly trying to kill you, and flying them is a continual game of preventing them from destroying themselves.
Then there's the early jet era: you've got your sabres and migs here. They're very unforgiving, and they don't really give a fuck if you kill yourself flying them. That said, they aren't actively suicidal, and you can do a lot of cool stuff. You also see early missiles here; sabre gets heatseekers.
Finally, you can also fly some more modern jets, like the F-15, A-10, a few soviet things, etc. There's also an F-14 sim coming out soon for your topgun boner. These are incredibly easy to fly once you learn the controls.

Carriers and aircraft (both carrier and land based) are in the game, but frankly aircraft in general are kinda wonky, and if you start battle at any kind of close range it's quite likely for a carrier to get fucked before it can launch anything. It's really a game about gunnery, aircraft feeling a bit tacked on doesn't hurt it too badly given the setting, hopefully they can find a way to improve them next game.

No, honestly, a master of BMS could in all likelyhood start up and take off in a 90s viper. Not well of course, but I am sure they would get into the air and be able to fly around.
But the real thing is decidely different. Even IRL trainee pilots coming off simulators apparently almost always over rotate on their first takeoff, owing to the FBW force sensing side stick.
Oh, and flying around while experiencing g force makes it massively different too.
I grew up playing forza and GT my whole life, and I beat the shit out of those games. The first time I drove a shifter kart on a racetrack I was humbled having to do it for real. Fighting G while you drive is a crazy experience when youve only driven a computer chair before.
But seriously though, the non classified systems and buttons are literally like 95% accurate in BMS.
>>29272054
The most G I have ever pulled was 5. Let me tell yo that flying and pulling 5G was very different o pulling 5G in a simulator
Combat Mission Black Sea is great. Especially the quick scenario editor. Fun to make missions where you're outclassed or facing the wrong kind of objective (clearing a dense town with mechanized troops).
Basically a scenario where the Russian incursion into Ukraine turned into open war and the U.S. got involved. Features a pretty intensive C3 system and some cool technology while being pretty streamlined.

You're not just smart enough anon, dont take it the wrong way. Not everyone has what it takes to be a pilot, not everyone is capable of thinking in 3 dimensions, and having the aptitude to multitask with such a high degree of spacial awareness.
>>29272984
>not everyone is capable of thinking in 3 dimensions
;_;
ive often wondered if id be any better at it if i had more sensory feedback than just looking at a monitor in front of me... but then i remember hearing how when diving you can get turned around and think up is down and down is up, so i guess you cant trust body sensations either.
This is why i only flew bombers in warthunder :3
>>29272724
In the shifter kart I was pulling ~3g peak and ~2+ g sustained in the corners, and about the same under braking. After 30 min I was fucking wiped out. I was "behind" the kart the whole time, whereas in a car or in a video game Im golden nailing apexes all day long.
>>29257360
I doubt it's /k/ approved, but the naval side of AC Black Flag is fucking awesome.
>>29273182
After my experience I slept for the better part of the day. And I mostly pulled 2G aeros like loops, the exception being the 5g turn and a large number of hammerheads and two fucked up hammerheads quite aggreeably referred to as Prince Alberts. Even the more docile maneuvers will fuck with you because it takes such an immense amoint of effort to coordinate
>>29274290
/k/ approved isn't necessarily an "official" thing. Its /k/ approval status basically boils down to someone saying the game is /k/ approved and there being no resounding negative feedback from /k/. Then there's games like War Thunder that people will continue to argue about.
Also yes, this game has filled the void that Black Flag and Sid Meier's Pirates have left for me.

consistion was never considered a 4th rate by anybody, its a frigate, a 5th rate.
superfrigates have been been considered the 'equivalent' of a 4th rate at times, but they have never been considered ships of the line.
They are classified as 4th rate in this game i can only imagine because the devs have absolutly nothing to put there.
It doesnt have 2 gundecks. A gundeck is a very specific thing.
Constitution is a stupidly powerful 5th rate

>/pol/
Anyone whos created this bogeyman out of a board full of happening threads really ticks me off. It bothers me that people think thats a valid argument, and that every board on this site is full of people who are either seriously or jokingly dismissing everything that doesnt agree with their own world view as /pol/. Its not healthy, and it illustrates the polarization problem we have.
>>29295059
what bothers me the most is that /pol/sters think they are normal / enlightened or somehow represent the majority of people, despite that they clearly don't.
And by /pol/ster i don't mean everyone who go on /pol/ but the
>Red pill me
>Jewish lizardmen conspiracy believers
>Everyone is cuck
>I hate women
And so on
We don't need this on every single board, and we certainly don't need it in a thread about video games on /k/.
>>29295081
and what bothers me is when people who are discussing real world issues get dismissed by someone comparing them to people posting about
>Red pill me
>Jewish lizardmen conspiracy believers
>Everyone is cuck
>I hate women
I dont think anyone actually thinks reptilian jews are real, thats a meme.
Near as i can tell the post that started this was the image here >>29264859
thats just memes breh. The holocaust narative is obviously manipulated to hell, for political reasons, and probably exagerated significantly. This is not some revelation, this is just how the world works, everything gets twisted to fit peoples purposes. I say this as someone who generally likes israel, its stupid to buy the official story about anything. If that sounds the same kind of thing as a post going over the pros and cons of different kinds of foil to get for your hat so HARP cant read your mind then i dont know what to tell you
>>29295081
>And by /pol/ster i don't mean everyone who go on /pol/ but the etc...
See now you're choosing your own obscure definition of >/pol/ and by doing that you accidentally piss off all the people that browse it and don't go full r9k about the lizardkin jews that are lying about the existence of the moon. Which believe it or not is the vast majority.
>>29295059
>dismissing everything that doesnt agree with their own world view as /pol/. Its not healthy, and it illustrates the polarization problem we have.
it's not that i always disagree with what you're saying, it's that i disagree with where you're saying it.
the majority of times i've said ">>>/pol/" it's been because the poster is making a political point in a thread that's only tangentially politics related, which will invariably de-rail the thread into a political discussion better suited to the political board.
now, sometimes it's completely valid to discuss politics - after all, not everyone on a non-/pol/ board visits /pol/, and sometimes you want to talk politics with /g/ or videogames with /k/, but the vast majority of these off-topic discussions are political ones outside of /pol/, which is tiresome, especially since they tend to become /pol/ style discussions removing the entire appeal of talking about a topic only tangentially related to that of the board (seeing a new take on said topic.)
>>29295438
well, the issue is, /pol/ is the last place you want to discuss politics. /pol/ is for memes and happenings. Politics are a global affair, and everything ties into world events. Analyzing even mundane things from a political perspective will give you insight into whats really going on.
For example, on /k/, a thread about some countries new kind of boat for their navy. Political understanding of the area is going to help you understand why they are getting it and even understand some of its features. Its all very interesting. Everything is just backroom deals and spin. Worlds very exciting!
>>29295494
>For example, on /k/, a thread about some countries new kind of boat for their navy. Political understanding of the area is going to help you understand why they are getting it and even understand some of its features. Its all very interesting. Everything is just backroom deals and spin. Worlds very exciting!
That goes beyond tangentially related when it comes to /k/ since it's into providing direct context. Similarly, bills relating to regulating technology, etc, are clearly on-topic for /g/
to expand the naval example, such a thread would be more technically suited to /pol/ when someone turns things towards the merits of the country's welfare system (often starting with a pseudo-valid tangent like "they could have much better ships if the politicians were brave enough to cut other spending and put it into the navy" which rapidly becomes "the spending they should cut should be welfare" > discussion on the merits of welfare and the demographic makeup of welfare, plus international shitposting on the differences between welfare systems across countries.
it's technically related, obviously, maybe they really should cut welfare, but when you go down that track you lose the original topic (muh boats) and get into something completely difference (STOP THE BOATS)
>>29295566
>(muh boats) and get into something completely difference (STOP THE BOATS)

War Thunder, Slav bias, etc.
>>29300779
Because warthunder simulates ease of manufactory, low maintenance and good supply lines, superior numbers etc.
Yes i guess that's a good point, Warthunder really simulates how the IS-2 and T-34s outnumbered their equivilant tanks by putting more Maus Tanks than was ever made in a single game with no engine problems at all or any of their other faults vs of equal number of non fictional tanks.
>>29272984
lemme guess, you just solo'd a 172 and feel like hot shit?
This post reeks of an unchecked ego.
Yes, its true. Not everyone is made out to be a pilot, in the same way that not everyone is made out to be a nurse or an engineer. Doesn't make us any better or worse.
It also has little to do with "smart." Some of the worst people I've flown with have been wicked intelligent but it doesn't translate at all.
