Mostly yeah, the SWO stab is real. Most of my collegues were always sceaming against each other to look good in the boards while simultaneously trying to make everyone else look bad. Also there was a fair amount of cheating but that goes with the territory. Being O side is pretty good since you don't have to do the dirty work yourself but it's stressful as hell, especially when you have one or two absolute shitbags in your division that you're accountable for.

Go to the USCG get your sea time credited, get your Third Mate license and sail for Military Sealift Command. Make great money doing a far easier job than you had. Or the Merchant Marine in general if you're interested in going back to sea. If you want a few years off first, SUNY and maybe Texas offer master's programs with license options.

I don't know what the fuck people do off the dock but plenty of your types come to the oil field as location bosses or automation techs and make 80-110 k per year. Granted that was when unleaded was $3 a gallon but hey that's a start.

Youre thinking marines (or possibly army). The equivelent to a Co. Commander in the Navy is usually a department head which is an O-3. The captain of a ship is usually either an O-5 or O-6 with 15-20 years experience.

Well I originally wanted EOD but didn't get picked up for it out of college, SWO was my second choice. SWO is a respectable community though, it's classic navy. Like I said its really stressful and there's a fair amount of backstabbing but it was alright on the whole.
