Instad of a lot of cannons. I would put only one big cannon.
But then it would have a rotating drum that would enable it to rapid fire a lot of rounds very fast.
Also it should have a triple hull design.
The side hulls should be just armor and be filled with fire proof styrofoam instead of air.
This would be a beast unsinkable.
thats nice dear
A battleship that shoots battleships.
>Battleshipfag is high on crack again
Time to leave 4chan for a while then.

Well, if we're going to post dumb shit I might as well try my hand at this:
If I could make a modern battleship, I would have the hull be pointy on the front and the back so it could sail the same speed in both directions. I would also mount a second battleship through the first one so it's layout will be + instead of only |, this way it can sail in all directions on full speed.
I would have the grand turrets replaced by arrays of Abram tank turrets because I saw them on History channel and thought they were really cool. The ship would also have room for 500 tomahawk missiles and on top of the bridge there will be a patriot installation for every square inch that is not occupied by something else.
Its ultimate weapon would be a nuclear cruise torpedo, capable of taking out entire convoys halfway across the earth. These torpedoes would be lethally dropped, had the ship been in Normandy.
Wut?
No scramjet shells? No LRLAP shells? No cannon assisted supersonic missiles? No mention of nuclear power? No hydrofoils?
It's like you don't want to cruise 40 knots while shelling targets hundreds of miles away.
I actually think naval artillery has been neglected by the focus on aircraft... there's potential for naval artillery to actually outrange carrier launched craft!
Not that matters. Space battleships when?
God fucking dammit I'm tired of this shitposting bait meme. Battleships have been obsolete for 75 years. They aren't coming back. Naval warfare has moved on, why can't you?

If battleships can outrange carriers...
THEY AREN'T OBSOLETE.
Carriers and their planes are ludicrously expensive. It's a lot quicker and cheaper to train a naval artilleryman than a fucking pilot. Plus carriers HAVE to have a ton of escorts.

A battleship is just a ship designed to directly fight other ships, and sustain damage in the process with out getting instantly mission killed.
That means if you had something only armed with missiles, as long as it could take many direct missile hits with out disrupting its ability to continue fighting, i would call it a battleship.
this battleship=guns meme has always been wrong. The battleship has always been defined by its armor and ability to withstand its own weapon systems, thats the primary characteristic of a battleship.
People often try to design 'modern battleships' and do it backwards and sideways developing unarmored shore bombardment platforms. Those would be neat, but they arent battleships by a longshot, maybe some kind of battlecruiser.

If ifs and buts were candies and nuts we'd all have a merry Christmas
Reminder that shore bombardment was something battleships ended up doing because it turned out they were useless for their primary purpose.

If I can nut my candies in a butt I'll have a merry Christmas indeed.

god bless france

And how many battleships were able to withstand hits from their own main armament?
>>29247099
That was kind of the point, the main belt armour was designed to withstand the ship's own guns.
>>29247099
Depends on how close that armament was to them.

What are you, 5 years old?
