I carried that gun for more than a year and still did it 1 week before selling it. The mag release is sensitive and very small. Any type of pressure on top of the mag release will push it.
just remove the guts of the mag and remove the slide of your handgun. Then insert the body of the mag, if the mag catches on the release then the gun is working right. The problem is elsewhere but not on the mag release.
