why did the 1911 outlast all other pistols being produced after ww2? There were some great ones from a lot of different countries and at the rate of how many 1911s are produced from different companies, why didn't other pistols get the chance?
I would have loved to see p38s or FNs have the same production today
The radom looks pretty sweet

Because those other countries don't have a domestic gun culture. Half of them were communist for 45 years too.
Because JMB pioneered many of the aspects that are still used in handguns today.
The patent ran out, so anyone can make it. Thus the popularity of production.
The other sides lost, therefore their production was disrupted, they fell behind the iron curtain, or they had un-modern designs like the Webley revolver.
Most, if not all the Japanese and Italian pistols sucked
the luger was already rare and expensive as it is now, now chance it was going to be a major production sidearm
the walther p38 lives on as the beretta 92fs
the hi power is just as popular though not nearly as produced
the 1911 at the time was probably the best automatic handgun, and all things considered still one of the best SAO pistols, and us being the winners of the war and controlling the markets helped. We gave a lot of stuff to other countries, particularly guns, and dominated for decades
>1911
>Outlasting the Hi Power
The 1911 is literally only popular in the US and various US backed countries. The Hi Power was and still is the main service pistol for like 80 something countries and is John Moses Browning's (pbuh) masterpiece

also let's not forget toggle lock isn't a reliable action
The 1911 was in a large, rimless, manstopper caliber. That's like half the reason. The other half was that all the GIs came home with a bias towards the 1911. Thus the greatest generation of fudds was born.
I just wish that this big fucker had been more popular.

Tell me more
>>29212713
Because the biggest supplier of guns and the only manufacturing center left in the world was making 1911s.
>>29213207
Yes it is. It's just expensive to manufacture.
>>29212713
>1911
>Originally from WW2
>Why no new production P38 or Hi Power?
OP, everything you know is wrong.
because mericans are nostalgic as fuck whereas the rest of the world moved on to more modern guns.
>>29212713
the Beretta 92 is basically a P38.
Reliable cool looking
After the end of the war us sold those pieces to other countries making those 1911 very famous.
After the patent ran out anyone is allowed to copy the blueprint.
>>29212713
Didn't Jeff Cooper love the 1911? That could have had something to do with it.
And the P38/P1 was made until 2000 I think.
>>29213493
Looks like an M1905, which was a M1900 chambered in the new .45acp instead of .38 auto.
Big clunky pistol which was refined into the 1911 by, among other things, replacing the front barrel link with the familiar 1911 bushing.
>>29213493
Like does he have a car
>>29213834
>Originally from WW2
that was never said, stop talking out of your ass
>>29215595
>>29212713
Let me detour into a side question based on your pic there real quick. Left column, center pistol, what are we looking at there? The others are all EZ Mode to ID, obviously that one has similar contours to a Tokarev and I KNOW I've seen it before, but I can't put my finger on it now.
>>29216048
FN 1903
>>29216080
Thanks bro. I KNEW it was FN something, but all my brain was sending back was a dial tone.
>>29217367
Internally, it's very much like the Colt 1903 Hammerless, but it's chambered in a stronger (now obsolete) caliber.
>>29217455
can please explain to me why colt hammerless pistols are the sexist fucking guns ever
>>29213449
>front link 1900/1902/1905/1907
>link breaks and the barrel flys back at you
Nah I'm good.
