I got to fondle pic related at my lgs today and fell in love. I come to you as a lowly noguns (have gone shooting, just haven't bought my own yet), and I need advice. I've developed a firm erection for ar10's over the years, and I really want one, but I want your input first.

Basically, is it worth $3,000, or should I just buy an ar15, or is there a better option for a battle rifle.

Want some advice?
Make your purchase before November.

Honestly, not a great first gun. Get a standard AR15 that takes 5.56, learn the platform, ammo is cheaper, easier to modify (AR10s are all over the board in terms of parts compatibility), etc.
>>
>>29209873
...Plastic lower and shit trigger unless your willing to dump another 800 bucks, so really a SCAR is a $4,000 rifle.
>>
>>29210308
Plastic lower is fine. Its a trigger housing.
Stock trigger is fine, for a battle rifle. If you want a target trigger, its $250-350

>>29209885
Are we gonna do this shit to ourselves again?

>o noez everything is gonna git b& buy everything nos even though it's double price because we're stupid and keep buying it!
>time passes, nothing happens except shit stays at a higher price than it originally was an an entire caliber ceases to exist in this dimension

Build an AR-15 or get a scar 17S if you can afford to have your semi auto rifle be a .308 (and actually want one).

I think battle rifles are retarded. Anytime you want to use a semi auto, 5.56 should be fine. Anytime you want to use a full size cartridge, a bolt action should be fine. I'm just speaking in terms of my experience and wants, not what I want others to have. I built an AR-10 because I thought they were awesome. Now it sits in the safe until someone will buy it off me.

If you can't honestly say that the amount of trigger time you will have will not be hampered by having only a .308 semi auto; don't get it.

Or if hill gets elected, prices are going to go up.

As an AR-10 owner twice over...
Buy both. I have two Armalite's but honestly would recommend you look at either a DPMS G2 rifle or an Armalite AR-10A. As a companion rifle, build your own from a parts kit. BCM upper, just about any milspec lower kit.

Both have their places. The 308's are heavy and expensive. Cheap ammo is still like $0.50/rd. Magazines are more expensive and rare. 556's are a lot lighter and less expensive. Cheap ammo is $0.25/rd and magazines cost half as much as for a 308. It's twice the trigger time.

The AR-10 ($1500), an AR-15 ($750), then 10 magazines for each ($300) and 1000 rounds for each ($750). You still have $700 leftover for optics and upgrades.

Start here and build a decent rifle. Or just buy a Scar 17.

That was the price tag on it senpai, haven't had time to look into it
>>
>>29210308
Literally what.
SCAR is $2500 and Geissele Super SCAR trigger is $300.
>plastic lower
Oh you're a retard, I see.
>>
>>29209846

Daniel Defense makes a great product, no doubt about it. I bought a DDM4 about five years ago. For $1300 or so.

7.62 AR's are great, but for $3000 you could build yourself an AR-10 of equal or better quality and it would match what you want exactly.

>>29210459
>Anytime you want to use a full size cartridge, a bolt action should be fine
And a semi auto would be better.

.308 ammo is expensive to plink with

Why would you want a cheek weld like that?
Wouldn't you want it to slide by your face easy?
>>
>>29210768
>Why would you want a cheek weld like that?
Like what? That stock has a comfy af cheek weld.

>Wouldn't you want it to slide by your face easy?
So you're saying just the grippiness seems bad? I don't agree, you don't move your face around on the stock once you get your weld, and there isn't any sliding to get it in place or out of place, so idk what u mean dawg.

Perhaps from your perspective. For me, because they're heavier, >3x the cost, less accurate, >2x the cost to feed, less reliable and harder on brass, I don't really like them. Pic related is mine.

>>29211748
CTR or PRS, depending on how heavy you want it. An STR may be a good compromise; good cheek weld and not as heavy as the PRS.
>>
>>29212260
>they're heavier
false blanket statement, i.e. ar-10 weighs 8 pounds, heavy barrel bolt 308s can weigh over 10 pounds
>3x the cost
false blanket statement, i.e. milsurp battle rifles can be a couple hundred and there are bolt guns that cost $5k+
>less accurate
false blanket statement, i.e. some bolt guns can be shit accuracy and some battle rifles are accurate over 600, 800, 1000, + yards
>2x the cost to feed
literally nonsensical, they shoot the same ammo
>less reliable
false blanket statement, i.e. remington 700s shoot on their own, whereas i've never seen a scar malfunction
>harder on brass
lol what

So you just spewed a bunch of actual bullshit. That's fun.

My work in progress M&P-10. Replacing the handguard with either an MI or JL Billet M-LOK 12.8" rail soon.

lol the only thing they make that isn't terrible is the M4A1 RIS II and MK18 RIS II

they should just close up shop and sell nothing but those two rails

You can cherry pick all you want, but I don't really give a fuck to be honest. If you reloaded, you'd know the brass comment. When I was referencing the cost of ammo, I was thinking of vs semi auto .233.

To get a sub-MOA capable .308 in semi auto vs bolt action, there is a major difference in cost. My reasons for using a full size cartridge typically involve hunting deer/elk or precision shooting (~1,000yds); a bolt action will do both of those better than a semi-auto. I don't use a .308 for shooting steel/paper under 400yds, but more power to you if you want to. FAL's and PTR's have the same general novelty factor to me as a giggle switch.
>>
>>29209846
It's worth 2500. Distributor cost is like 2200 or 2300.

Sales and reviews say otherwise. Care to share your experiences with their products?
>>
>>29212704
...too bad you think that way. My Daniel Defense m4v11 is pretty fucking solid.
>>
Why not get a SCAR, PTR91, or FA? Fuck, even Kel-Tec has a bullpup .308 rifle called the RFB. I think AR-10s are boring and too expensive for what you get.

Nice bait.

>Basically, is it worth $3,000, or should I just buy an ar15, or is there a better option for a battle rifle.

If you don't have an AR15 get one first. The DD5V1 is good but honestly I would want something rifle length gas system, closer to exactly 8 pounds, and nitrided barrel for better accuracy potential.

>>29209846
