Is it okay to shoot a .22 without ear protection?
>>
>>29191896
no, it's not. with specific types of ammo it can be okay but you should just wear your fucking earpro
>>
>>29191896

Depends on the .22 firearm. I had a marlin model 80, bolt action .22, that with high velocity ammo was borderline hearing safe but with sustained exposure could cause loss. With CB's, definitely safe. A 10/22, or any .22 handgun on the other hand, are closer to your ear, and semiautomatics tend to be louder. Get a decibel meter to measure your specific firearm to be sure. Or you know, just put some fucking foamies in half assedly and be sure.

I've shot of 12 gauge without ear pro, it rings for a little bit but you'll be fine if you're not a bitch and you don't do it that often

Gee I don't know. Is it loud?
>>
>>29192067
WHAT
>>
>>29191896
Some rifles you can get away with it. But .22 pistols are still way too loud. I have mild tinnitus, trust me, it's not worth it.
>>
>>29191896

Even if the sound it tolerable to you, that doesn't mean it's not damaging your ears little by little.

You can do it, but you shouldn't.
>>
what do you guys think about the sport ear custom 30
>>
>>29192016
>foamies
What's the very minimum level of acceptable earpro?
>>
>>29191896

It's a dumb idea to shoot any firearm without ear protection, and >>29192067 is a retard.

I've never used any sort of plugs or muffs. Only ever really shoot in the bush though.

Who needs to hear shit, anyway?

Subsonic loads with a velocity of 1080 fps are borderline when leaving a 20 in barrel. I wear filtered plugs that have an NRR of 11 db when shooting that though, just to be safe. But if you're shooting supersonic loads, wear some foamies.
>>
>>29191896
Yes it is, dont listen to these retards. If your bitchmade ears cant handle the percussion of a 22 then you get your fukn man card revoked.
>>
Earmuffs dont create an air tight seal, proper foamies do.
>>
>>29191896
You'll probably get away with one or two shots of .22 out of a rifle, but keep doing that and you're going to lose your ears pretty quickly.

Really, stuffing cotton balls in your ears is better than nothing.
>>
>>29191896
Indoors? No.
Outdoors, it's not that bad. About as loud as a small firecracker.
>>
If you can listen to the bullshit spewing out of these faggots mouths you can definitely handle the percussion of a 22
>>
You do more damage to your ears listening to your radio and walking into a hooters. Jesus christ these people are fucking stupid.
>>
>>29191896
As a child I thought I could. I'm now 21 and have permanent tinnitus in my right ear. Life is regret
>>
WHAT?
SPEAK UP!
EAR PROTECTION?

EARPRO IS FOR PUSSIES, DONT USE IT.
>>
>>29191896
I have a Henry lever gun that sounds like an air rifle. I almost never wear ear-pro when shooting it.
When I do I am at the range and it is only because of the other people around me shooting.
>>
>>29194344
But, realtalk OP. You don't really need earpro for a .22 rifle. Hearing loss is something that is just going to happen when you get old.

However, there is no reason to make it come faster. And wearing earpro is a good habit.
>>
>>29191896

I shot my j.c. Higgins 22 off all the time without hearing protecting. No fancy rounds or any thing, my pellet gun seems louder than that..so I do t wear hearing protection for that.
>>
>>29191896
Only if it's a .22 rifle (16"+ barrel, not an SBR) that isn't semi auto and you are using standard velocity ammo, subsonics, or CB ammunition as all of those will be at 140 db or below. Note that firing more than 100 rounds per day at that sound level will exceeds the OSHA allowed exposure and you should be using earpro in such a situation.

>the DB rating on these is just around 100 from 15 feet away and prolonged exposure can cause hearing loss at those levels! safety first!

Question. Would standard foam earplugs provide enough hearing safety for a 16" ar15 firing 55gr 223? Would I need earpros, and in which case, EP3 enough? Double with muffs?

Get these?

I hear fine the ringing sound only comes from when its very quiet. Also what are you going to do when you have to use your gun in a self defense situation? Tell the person trying to mug you "hold on let me get my ear pro on"?

maybe if I were gonna light hundreds of firecrackers next to my head for a couple of hours, I'd put on the fucking earpro.

This poster is a moron.
This shit damages your ears. Cumulatively. He is gonna have a great time shouting at his grandkids about how manly he is, but not hearing them whisper about how ridiculous he is, because he will be deaf as a post in his old age.
>>
>>29197881
You're hilariously dense.
If you are being mugged, you just shoot. Getting shiv'd is infinitely worse than tinnitus.
But if you have an opportunity to put on earpro, but don't, you are just being a retarded faggot for the sake of being a retarded faggot. What, you can't take 1.5 seconds to put on earpro before you plink or hunt? So instead you'll take mild hearing loss due to laziness?
Are you always this fucking dumb?

Like, if you were about to eat dinner at a greek restaurant, and they put a plate of flaming saganaki in front of you, do you just reach into those blue flames? The waiter is screaming "PLEASE SIR! JUST GEEV ME ONE POINTA FIVE SECONDS TO PUT OUT THE FLAMES!" and you're just chewing fire, scorching your mouth to cinders saying "NO, IF I WERE STARVING I WOULD NEED TO EAT THIS IMMEDIATELY"
