What are the causes for military pilots to end up being disabled? I've talked to many pilots who flew helicopters in the military and most of them were suffering from onsets of degrading bones and back problems. Is there any way to prevent this or fix it in the future?

Too much time sitting on their asses causes muscle atrophy.
>>29186561
>bone degradation
That's not from the helicopters it's from fluoridation of their drinking water.
>>29186561
>Constant vibration and g-force being good for the human body
I'm not a doctor.

PRECIOUS
BODILY

In his book Chickenhawk the author Robert Mason describes briefly the wear on ones body that the constant vibrations from the helicopter caused. In only a few hours the pilots were exhausted, not only because of the stress of keeping the vehicle in the air, but the actual mechanical vibration of the vehicle just wore you out. Ive only ever driven HMMWVs over rough trails, and after a few hours of bouncing your back aches, couldn't imagine having that happen to your back for years as being good.
Ejection seats WILL fuck your day up. They will save your life, they also might break your back in some situations.
Hard landings. Once again in Chickenhawk Mason describes what he does when the helicopter loses power, how you have essentially a controlled crash. Even if the springs in the struts absorb a lot of that, it can't be good for ones back to be inside a crashing chopper.

You can usually auto-rotate you fucking mong.

>Autorotations
>Gentle
Pick one and only one.
>>29186773
on top of that autorotation landings are very controllable given your altitude and ability to handle the aircraft, if you suck your landing will be tough. if you don't suck your landing will be smooth and accurate enough to land within a tennis court
>>29186802
i'll pick both because i've actually done them
get fucked in your mouth
>>29186813
>if you don't suck your landing will be smooth and accurate enough to land within a tennis court
maybe under ideal conditions where you aren't flying treetop level over solid jungle before getting shot down and having to pick an LZ that's probably shit and you don't have time/altitude to do a proper autorotation

I'm this anons doctor.
He's right. Guys who drive semi-trucks all their life also develop same symptoms from constant vibrations.
>>29186561
Neck/Back issues for fighter pilots from all the repeated looking over their back during fighter maneuvers plus the G-forces. Ejecting compresses the shit out of your spine too.
>>29186825
Why are you mad
>>29186890
not mad i just like to use profanity you fucking faggot
helicopters crash constantly
everyone who flies them has been in a couple crashes
this is why we should not fly helicopters at all

And the marines bought hundreds of V-22's who cannot autorotate
instead they literally just drop out of the sky
And because of payload restrictions, they don't even have crashworthy seats/airframe
Lotta people are going to get seriously injured in that shitpile.
Woo, good thing I want to be a pilot, least I know what I'm getting into.

Rip its save lives.
>>29187020
They should be standard issue safety equipment. A far better choice than the PT belts
90% of the time a STOL plane could replace the helicopter, for a fraction of the cost as well.
>>29187040
Just no
it's a fact that 95% of helicopters crash and during your time as a pilot you will average 4 crashes per month if you're lucky
>>29187006
Warming itself on the rocks so it can digest the dead marines inside
>>29186964
Took me 15 seconds on Google to find out that Osprey's can autorotate.
Your post is a shitpost and you should feel about about your ignorance.
>>29187120
it's actually called trofulating
>>29187120
and you find V-22 pilots admitting its impossible to do even in a simulator
>>29187192
Yep, saw that as well. It can still autorotate though.
Why is the V-22 being incapable of autorotating a problem?
Its not a helicopter, it can glide like any other fixed wing that loses thrust.
>>29187231
Has to land more or less vertically, where any power loss results in KIA's, WIA's, and a destroyed airframe.
>>29187280
>Has to land more or less vertically
Why? Its got an okayish glide ratio, and thats irrespective of the rotors being forward or up.
>>29187308
If your just landing on a runway, why are you using a tilt rotor or helicopter at all?
>>29187231
>Its not a helicopter, it can glide like any other fixed wing that loses thrust.
Oh no it can't. Not with that engine size, weight and position relative to the size of the lift surfaces
>>29187360
Glide ratio of 4.5:1
Mediocre, but still capable of doing so more than a blackhawk.
>>29187345
In an emergency landing, not on the regular.
>>29187079
Jesus Christ this is funny man
>>29186986
You lie
>>29187074
Word. It's a fact that Hueys and Cobras come from the factory with tricycle landing gear, it gets mangled in the first crash so they just replace it with skids because cheaper.
