All this anti gun shilling from the democratic party lately is getting me pretty spooked about the possibility of liberals trying to repeal or restrict 2nd amendment if they gain too much power.
What is the best way to go about buying a firearm for self defense without ending up in some database somewhere? What are some good recommendations for relatively cheap handguns?

Buy it privately. Depending on where you live you may need to go through a dealer for private sales, though. In that case buy it privately in a different state.

Forgot this thread was aboutnot ending up on a database. Well anyway, you're gonna have to file a 4473 if you buy from a gun store. Not sure if there's an issue buying privately without forms in your state. I'd check if I were you. Easy as meeting someone at your local walmart parking lot and handing the guy cash.

Armlist is the go to for local buying/selling
Otherwise check your local facebook buy/sell/trade firearms (If it hasn't been deleted already by ZuckTheCuck)
Gunbroker is a good site in general for buying guns online but it's not for private meetup type buying. That site's gun listings are generally for buying the gun and having it shipped to your LGS (local gun store) and filling out background checks.

Gunsamerica I notice I find some pretty unique and well priced things on there.
For good sites:
Aimsurplus, they have some police trade in Glocks and other pretty good surplus pistols and rifles.
Grabagun I notice has amazing prices, if I was gonna buy a gun new it would most likely be from their(might buy a SP 101 on there in a few months)
Sour thermionic is great for surplus and other cheap pistols and revolvers, can find a pretty decently(today) priced Mosin.

Guns I recommend for first gun/s:
S&W model 10/15/64 for a good sized and very fun and accurate.38 speical revolver.
Model 36/39/49 for a pretty great snubnose in .38 sp. but for can be costly at times(payed over 600 for a never fired chrome model 49) all those only 5 shots though.
Model 13/65(65/64/66 are stainless) or 19/66 if you want a .357 from Smith & Wesson that won't cost over 700.
Glock(not an expert) probably go with a 17, 19, or 26. If you want pretty good concealablity maybe try a 42/43.
Surplus Italian Beretta 92FS or 92S can find in the 300-500 range.
Surplus Jerichos can be found(look gunbroker) in the 300's.
Feg Hi power clone or surplus hi powers are great. 300-mid 400's(maybe some fegs in the high 200's)
Star model B's or super star models surplus can be found for 200-330, think a 1911 style but shoots 9mm or a non nickel form of Jule's gun from Pulp Fiction.
Don't know much about them but Rugers LCP's and LCRs I heard are pretty great carry guns but not the funniest too shoot and the LCR's might be the only Ruger revolver too break on you(normally built like tanks but it's a polymer gun)

State fairs will sometimes have private sales depending on what state it's held in. You should check out the next fair or head over to a more western state from Wisconsin.
