Thinking about joining the Marine Corps as an MP I've read about recruitment on the website but I'm hoping to get an idea of what the job will actually be like/other servicemen's attitudes to MPs
>>
Standing at the front gate all day in the elements just checking ID'S.
>>
Pros:
>You get taught how to fight someone who has been trained to fight
>Can retire with pension, work as a state cop, retire with pension again, and then work as a cop in another state making pension plus pay
>Cool toys. P90s and shit, the real stuff
>At least in the AF, mps could go to lots of ancillary training. Knew a guy that went to Ranger school among other things

Cons
>you're gonna be hated
>Drunk marines
>scanning IDs all day
>Drunk marines
>>
>>29126489

Fun fact.

MP's also serve as staff at the Brig. So some are chosen as prison guards.

I did 2 days in the brig. I learned something while I was in. Those motherfuckers are locked in and hate life just like we did. Sure they got to leave after their 8 or 12 hour shift. But that's the job, being in prison. They are just the goons in charge and usually bitter and take it out on the the people in the brig.

I was a corporal and if I were to ever meet that PFC shmuckatelli guard that talked shit to me in a dark alley the tables would definitely be turned.

Tomato potato.

Is fighting with drunken Marines a common occurrence and what will I be doing when I go overseas?
>>
Isn't this like being a double retard? I mean first you're a marine, and then an MP too.
>>
>>29126649
Well he did put it in twice
>>
>>29126649
I can't say what an MP does when deployed to a warzone, but I believe you're base security, first line of defense and all.
Alcoholism is a Marine pasttime, as an MP you are gonna deal with a lot of disorderly, a lot of drunk drivers, and other bullshit. Your job is as much marine damage containment as it is saving the base from jihadis.
You aren't a pog, and you aren't a grunt, you're a federal officer of the law with a lot of training and that's how they'll see you.

Does this look like fun

>shaving profile

He's a dick and this is coming from a guy who's going to be a cop
>>
>>29126561
>MP's also serve as staff at the Brig

Negatory. That's a completely different MOS. If that was a thing when you were in, is isn't anymore.

>>29126544
>P90s and shit
Unless you're on SRT, you ain't seeing that shit. Everything else though is pretty spot on.

As for you, OP, there are two primary ways the Corps uses MP's; those in an LE Bn (deployable) and those in garrison (nondeployable). An LE Bn goes to other countries to provide base security for overseas bases/FOBs and conducts convoy security. In the base side of things, you will provide security for the camp that's not forward deployed.

As a cop, your rule of law is the UCMJ, articles 77-134 (pending through 137). You will qual with an M9, which, by the way, the badge for it is coveted as fuck as a junior Marine. You are the only POG that is mandated to train like the grunts, i.e. you will learn all the tacticool shit as that of a basic infantryman, plus in addition, the LE side of things which means also means slightly different tactics.

However, also like grunts, you will sit on your ass if you're not training. So expect to be bored as fuck in an LE Bn. If on the base side of things, expect to work long as fuck hours, depending where you go (8-12 hours shifts, alternating weekdays/weekends). Also is on the base side of things, expect to stand a gate for that duration until you get corporal.

Also if you want to be a cop when you get out, that's fine, just get on an apprenticeship program to get certified for cop things, but expect to data dump how you conduct your LE business because military law =/= civilian law. Not by a long shot.

Oh plus fighting drunken Marines varies from place to place. Most of the time, when the MP's are called for something, the unit(s) fighting will have tried to cover it up or somebody else will have broken it up, so that leaves you with the paperwork. Hope I helped.

Army MP, first term of 5 years. One station the black hole of the Army Fort Hood. Did 1 year and 4 months of drug suppression with CID.

I wont attempt to compare Marines to Army as I dont know enough about Marines but I can detail what I experienced and what I heard from others who were lucky enough to explore other bases. Then you can try and make a sound decision on what you know of Marines in a comparison.

Just like civilian cops, expect everyone to hate you until they need you. It isnt always the case but most will despise you for either social stigma or they ran into that one golden child moron who thinks he is top shit and ruined the LE image.

Everything varies base to base and who is in charge. Like someone else said there are two unit types Garrison and deployable. (my base was deployable) We didnt work the gates for ID checks, but we ran the visitors center doing DL checks and handing out base passes to civilians (who then went to gates to get id checked again) we just ran for warrants and driving privileges or filed weapons registrations. We also worked the road or stay at the unit area doing layouts, powerpoint training, or sitting on our thumbs if we were not doing cleaning (weapons and yardwork) or going to ranges and field training exercises.

Civilian guards and other MOS worked the gates.

If you work the road, expect long hours. Depending on man power and personnel commitment can be 8h shifts to 12. Just cause your shift ends at a certain time doesnt mean you are going home. Paperwork paperwork paperwork.

On the road expect anything between vandalism, car accidents, burglary and theft, to threats and murder/suicide (Fort hood we had a dead body at least once a month) We dealt with a lot of facebook shit between dependents ("she called me a bitch on face book so I am gonna kick her ass" type shit)
>>
>>29129500
Thanks man, when you said Hood had a dead body once a month what were the typical circumstances or did it vary from body to body
>>
I hated my time at Fort Hood, but I would not take back the experience. If given the chance to redo or change a different route, would still redo it and hope to at least experience more than just that base,

If you do choose the MP route. Just remember respect the chain of command but when facing shit bag NCO or CO who try to impose their rank upon you when they are wrong. Don't back down just cause they outrank you, as long as you are respectful and confident about it shouldn't really have issues.

On the other end don't be that guy "Respect my authority as rank don't mean shit to me"

If you feel you are a morally sound guy and attempt to do the right thing, don't expect your fellow MP's to be the same. There are just as many piece of shit MP's as other MOS.

Just like any job it had its good times and bad. Great people to work with and some you wanna choke slam into a brick wall repeatedly.

In Garrison (never deployed so I couldnt tell you what that is about) You will put in more work than most MOS's in your respective field.
>>
Most of them were suicides or car crashed. We hardly ever went over 90 days let alone 30 with out a car fatality. I would maybe say 2-4 out of a year was murder in some respective form. I worked as Drug suppression at CID for the April second active shooter (Worked 72 hours straight after with maybe an hour of sleep here or there at the office.)
>>
Just to kind of give you various ideas of what the time frame of work could be, always depends on the seriousness of the issue at hand.
>>
>>29129711
Man thanks a lot this is definitely the kind of stuff I won't hear in a recruiting office
>>
>>29128122
HAHAA!!! Whatever you say POG
>>
>policing marines

brave little man you are
>>
>>29129797
Not a problem. Take what recruiters say with a grain of salt. They are the politicians of the military. Unless they changed how the recruiting system works (heard some stories) You can haggle with them usually for incentives.

Chair force cop here
>pull over an officer
>usually courteous and professional, take their DD Fm 1408 because it means nothing and it will just quietly disappear

>pull over officer's wife
>WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT
>YOU CAN'T TALK TO ME LIKE THIS!
>DO YOU KNOW WHO MY HUSBAND IS?
>WHAT IS YOUR COMMANDER'S NAME SO MY HUSBAND CAN HAVE A TALK WITH HIM ABOUT YOU

enlisted wives are the same except with the addition of 100 lbs and a couple of screaming kids in the back
>>
>>29130001
Thanks again, but now to digress from the original question, what has been the best call you've responded to/detail you were assigned to, if you don't mind asking.
>>
>>29126649
MPs, well 5811 field MPs anyways, are basically used as mounted infantry. Route patrols, convoy escorts, Etc. when deployed.
>>
>>29130047
Has your experience in the Air Force been similar to any of the other posts here?
>>
You basically get to be Jack Reacher.
>>
>>29130183
I've been meaning to read some Jack Reacher novels is there any you can recommend for me that are based mostly when he is an MP?
>>
>>29130222
Sorry, I only saw the movie.
>>
>>29130095
Somewhat, it really is true that it depends on the base tho.

I have never seen any bad shit because i went from a missile base to doing law enforcement in sleepy hollow. Most of the people doing stupid shit here are Army or civilians. I imagine Marines would get in even more trouble.

Like someone else said, you will be fine as long as you remain professional when dealing with everyone. If you are inclined to fuck off, do it when around your peers and out of the eyes of the public and your chain of command.

Also don't get caught sleeping. One up one down always means two down. You can NOT trust the dude next to you to watch out for you and keep you out of trouble. They are just as likely to blue falcon you and take pictures of you sleeping on post. Assuming they are even awake anyway.

The best way to avoid this is just not sleep on post. Drink some preworkout.

(Wasnt my call but being on shift was just funny) One time on DST, guy called in he bought a used beater truck and wanted to fix it up. Year later comes back from deployment fixing it up. found a brick of Cocaine in the door panel. (Co-workers searched vehicle) Didnt find anything else they said they searched the whole car including reaching arms in door panels. Next day guy calls found another brick in the other door. The office joke was He was being the Good guy caller while stashing the other 12 bricks in his closet so when he distributes and is called out.. Can play plausible deniability since he called in the first two.

One of mine: Guy tests positive for Marihuana. States he had sleeping problems went to a friends party who had another friend selling unknown sleeping pills. (THC pills are rare in Army usually only two reasons you can get them one of the worse STD's or another life threatening disease like cancer) Ask him to describe the guy. Short, black, named Bubba... I rephrase his statement. "So you took unknown sleeping pills from an unknown short black guy named bubba at a party. What do you think your Commander is gonna say or possibly ask you about this statement. You might be talking to SVU after this." After sitting in a room after an hour he confessed.

Most interviews for drugs can last 30 mins to 7 hours

Not mine: Guy comes in for positive drug test. It is a short day as the End of the day call is about to go off. Supervisor takes one of the walkins to help out. Walks in, person denies. 5 Minutes before the bugles Supervisor "Everyone else but us are about to be released in 5 mins and you wanna waste both of our fucking time denying a positive test when we both can go about our day" Guy slumps his head in defeat and admits at flag call.

>enjoy having to work over a 4 day holiday weekend when everyone else on your post takes off to have fun.
>enjoy getting called out to base housing because some Jarhead and his 300lb dependapotomus wife are in a shouting match at 2am
>Enjoy being such a redheaded bastard child you do A school at Ft Lostinthewoods with the Army.
but most of all
>enjoy being hated by every member of the MC

As an MP, go out to a house call (soldiers wife went next door and had her neighbors call on husband for smoking weed with battle buddies)

Knock on door.
white guy answers
background looks like fog machine on full blast.
Told him here for noise complaint. (lie)
Just playing video games with friends blah blah (Partial lie on him)
Leave to talk to neighbors and wife.
Everyone including home owner start to leave the house to get in their vehicles.
Back up arrives we stop them all and set them on the curb in cuffs.
3 black guys and 1 white guy
Accused of being racist cause they are all in hand cuffs and it is a bunch of white cops. They dont include their white buddy in cuffs since you know its only about them.

Just made me laugh the level of selfish ignorance people have, you know since they didnt commit a crime minus evidence of the smell the clouds giving us probable cause to search the home or the used and unused joints in the house. They were the ones attempting to flee.
>>
>>29130363

I like the marijuana one
Right, so one last question and this may sound cringey but hey, have you or any of your colleagues got into physical confrontations with civilian/military personnel?
>>
>>29130047
>addition of 100 lbs and a couple of screaming kids
Defend our Portliest, as I've heard AF Sec Forces called...
>>
>>29130553
I never got the opportunity. A few of my buddies have. Doesnt happen often most people are just talk.
>>
>>29126489
you get to be like Jack Reacher but better because you can say Semper Fi.

Seriously tho, do what you want man. Its your life, live it.
>>
>>29130598
Defenders, or portliest?

You would be correct either way.
>>
>>29130637
>>29130630
Man thanks so much for this you've given me a good idea of what this will be like and I'm pretty sure I want to go ahead with it. Thank you and stay safe.
>>
>>29130222
there are some where they reactivate him kind of but i dont know of any while he was an mp.

Just go to the bookstore and read all the back covers in the reacher section.
>>
>>29130642
I know about the portliest bit.
>Driving onto JBLE, Langley side
>get to gate, see someone inside
>figure sets down food, gets up slowly and laboriously
>A1C Hippo waddles out from gatehouse
>hand it ID
>it looks at it with piggy little eyes
>comes back sweaty and greasy
>"habbaguddaisir" it gurgles
>heads back into gatehouse to continue gorging itself on whatever fast food franchise delivers to the gate

Couldn't believe it. I thought there was some sort of PRT req to be in the air force at all, much less security. Fucker must've been 250+.
>>
you should do something that's marketable

make sure you get your college paid for
>>
>>29130736
Yeah will do, thanks
>>
>>29130777
I've also considered this but I don't know what calibre of college will be available to me and how much it will extend my time in the military
>>
>>29130830
you need to research shit brotato (and not with your recruiter)

i'd honestly go to community college if i were you. if you want to go into the mil, try to do ROTC or something

and if you can do job training or choose your job, don't do MP.
>>
>>29130759
My boss has a good gate guard story.

>be in navy
>go to nuke school
>knee blows out gets washed out
>be assigned to diesel boat
>fuck everything in asia
>do stupid shit and somehow get jump-wings
>now assigned to DSRVs
>next posting is at a base
>no one knows what to do with an alcoholic dolphin with wings
>put him on the gate
>goes on shift to gate
>guy scoots out real fast like
>giant shit log in the gatehouse.
>such is life in the navy monkey patroll
