This is one gun I can honestly say I have no desire to own.

my shoulder and wallet hurt just looking at them

I bet just the primer on that 4 bore is bigger than the 22lr
I wish someone would make a modern one and do a recoil test on these, that's a number I want to see
>it's basically a shoulder-fired 1 inch gun

Oh, isnt that 4-bore cute.
here's a 2 bore, what's it next to? .458 lott? No, thats a .700 nitro next to it.
>>
I'd rather have a 2 bore.

Half pound lead balls going 1500 FPS each shot.

A real elephant gun.

The Wikipedia article on 2 bores has a funny story lol
>>
>>29087727

I guess you can call 2 bores "2 nitro express" but "2 thousand nitro express" sounds better.
>>

mother of a fuck.
a fucking half-pound, 2 inch projectile.
I wonder what kind of power you could get if you loaded the rounds with smokeless, on a modern-built gun of course.
I get that this thing was meant to kill elephants and shit, but jesus fuck, wouldn't it just shoot a hole through the fucking thing?
>>
>>29087794
>kind of power with smokless
to much to hold.
also, half pound is a round ball, conicals are heavier.
>>
>>29087794
The idea was this was your OH SHIT gun. There were few thing back then that could stop a pissed off charging elephant or rhino. The 4 bore was a guaranteed kill shot.
>>
>>29087853

Yes.

And 4 bore round balls are 1/4th of a pound.
>>
Shoulder mounted artillery.
Fucking hell.
>>
>>29087853
I just meant in general, no fucking way would you shoulder it.
so a projectile shaped like say, a 30-06 bullet in 4 bore, could weigh about 3/4ths of a pound?
with the neck casing to match.
could you fucking imagine that?
necked, 4 bore rifle with smokeless?
you could take down buildings and kill bradleys with that shit

>>
>>29087874

No it wasn't.

The 2 bore was created because 4 bores couldn't reliably drop a charging elephant.
>>
>>29087890

You could also turn your 4 bore into a shrapnel bomb...

I've never heard of anything but black powder being used in 2 and 4 bore cartridges.
>>
>>29087574
40 fucking bucks? Might as well get a lathe to make spare shells with. Giant mini shells might take care of some recoil while still lobbing a huge projectile, dunno if it would still be able to take down an elephant though.

mans best friend.

IIRC theres some .338 round that costs about that.
like .338/370 or some weird thing.

>>29088052
Oh sorry I thought you were referring to the 4 not the 2.

to be fair, the primer of a .50 BMG is pretty much the same size as a .22, if not bigger.

Those take .50 BMG primers IIRC.

I know because I watched the entire playlist I posted in >>29087741 and there's one video where he modifies 2 bore cartridges to accept 12 gauge shell primers because .50 BMG primers are expensive as fuck and not always available.

I don't know why, America makes a lot of .50 BMG right? Or do they do it in batches and only start manufacturing again after the stockpile starts running dry?
