I am curious on how you store your mags besides just throwing them all into a box and finding them when you need them. I have a good verity and am thinking of picking up more ammo cans for keeping hand gun sorted from rifle.

This is the bigger portion of my mess.
Pistol mags on shelves, rifle mags boxes on the floor, stacked by caliber and gun model. Couldn't get much in pic related, shelf too wide. Not pictured: ~100 rifle mags, ~70 pistol and SMG mags.
I like the MOLLE safe door idea, but it seems wasteful of space (and money). If the shelf is sturdy enough and shallow enough, you can really pack a whole lot of magazines in while keeping easy access and low floor space utilization.

I keep most of my mags in my range box but have some in my chest rig hanging in my closet which is always ready to go, not that I would be trying to put my rig on while Jamal is roaming the house.

I have three boxes. On of AR mags, one of AK mags, and one of AK-74 mags. If I get more mags I get bigger cardboard box.

The product picture makes the magazines look like they sit below the top of the box, but for the one I got they sit proud. If I install dust covers on my pmags, then two will interfere with the recess for the handle by a few milimeters. I can close the lid, but only by deforming it slightly. And ranger plates are out of the question.

Loaded ones go in the safe, unloaded go on a shelf.
Rifle mags:
One loaded into the rifle at all times, loaded ones in a plate carrier hanging on the wall. There are never empty rifle mags at my house.
