Correcting my self:
The "failures" of the FAL in the desert were later found to be political in nature so that Israel could move to the Galil. The operation is called a roller-lock. The only problem with it's operation is that it isn't as positive and postion repeatable as the locking lug design. The sand cut on the bolt carrier cut the contact surface about 30% and was a useful design change which also helped in cold climates. You need to study up on the workings of an FN FAL a bit more before you "educate" the masses.

I know some fancy SxS shotguns have angled stocks that only fit right handed shooters, but most pump action shotguns fit both correctly and wrongly handed people. My terribly disabled (left handed) friend shot my Remington 870 better than I can, so I don't see why your dad couldn't buy one of those. They even made/make left handed version of those.

I'm a leftie and I never had any problems with pump shotguns, they are pretty much ambidextrous.
The only things I have problems with are:
Slide stop, since it's pretty much impossible to use it for a leftie, but there are handuns with ambi ones and if you practice enough racking is ok and almost as fast.
Right-handed bolt action, but it's possible to more or less stay on the target while cycling if you tilt the gun slightly. It's a non-issue if you can get a left-handed bolt though, and those are common enough.
Bullpups without ambi ejection ports. I don't even like bullpups so it's fine for me. Fuck British and their retarded military issue though, glad I'm not from there.
Everything else is fine. Sounds like your dad is just a special snowflake.
Not to mention, being leftie give you a good reason to become ambi, and it's pretty fucking useful to be ambi in firearms handling.
