When putting down an animal what weapon do you use to do so?
Do you use your firearm or do you use a random tool when say putting down a horse or chicken?
Whenever I go to kill a chicken for dinner I just grab the head and just twist and twhirl it like a corkscrew until the neck is winded up enough for me to just "yank"off the head and it just goes "pop"
More efficient and effective instead of just chopping off the head but anyway if you had to put down an animal what would /k/ use?

The easiest way for chickens to me is find a heavy countertop and pick them up and slam their head down on the countertop in a controlled vertical motion. It's fast, painless for them, and I don't need any fancy hardware. And I don't have to hear them suffer.
If I had to kill a horse, since they are fucking beautiful magestic creatures I would probably go big to guarantee they went out in one go at it. Like 20 gauge slug to the brain while tears are rolling down my face.
For a dog or anything smaller like 38 special to the brain.

But I found out a small club to the back of the head works good enough , just like taking out a rabit , or you can do it the way to drain almost all the blood which is pet the chicken , calm it down and have it on its back then slit ita throat. When the chipmunks were invading our foundation while I was growing up we'd catch them in a trap. If my sister was home we'd go release them in the nearest state park. If it was just me and my dad we'd toss them into a trash can full of water and drown them.

When my girlfriend raised rabbits she'd raise them in a hutch indoors. When it came time to process them she'd put them in the grass outside, which would make them stop moving around since they'd never felt grass before; then she'd pop them in the head point-blank with a .22 and then clean them.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it all depends on the animal and the circumstances.

Chickens are easy - capture one while its feeding with a landing net.

if you've got to kill off rodents, put them in a tupperware box, and put it in the freezer. they'll get cold rapidly, and fall asleep. after an hour or two, they freeze. Hypothermia is painless, you get woozy, stop thinking clearly, and then sleepy. in fact you start forgetting its cold, and almost feel warm and cosy as you drift out.
Its a humane way to kill them. Drowning, however? that's fucking evil.

Personally I always slit their throats, even the chickens. Got a special thick ass knife for that, and a couple smaller ones for skinning and de-organizing (see what I did there?)
Although I have been meaning to try the neck snapping technique after having recently heard about it. Sounds pretty convenient.

When my paw was little he had an after school job at the butcher shop shooting cows in the head with a .22lr. That's how they killed them were we are from.
Chickens they used a cleaver to cut the head off but my great grandma used to just swing them between her legs by their head and it would pop off.

To answer your question I dispatched the animal with a 9mm or a 556 they both work fine. I did have a 9mm ricochet off a pigs skull but the second did the trick.
