Do you shoot anything for fun besides .22? Honestly how do people

Do you shoot anything for fun besides .22?

Honestly how do people afford it? One AK mag of shitty ammo is like 7 dollars. Other than practicing occasionally with defensive weapons it seems like it's only feasible to shoot .22lr.

I put hundreds of rounds out when I shoot, I can't do that with anything but .22lr, even then it's expensive.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't get to go to the range that often. So when I do go, I ball out. Fuck it.
>>
if you're shooting shotguns you're probably shooting trap or skeet or something and you go through ammo a lot slower in that case
>>
>>28904683
lets say I go through 10 magazines

I have shot 300 rounds

A lot to some, little to others

That's all of $75
Whoopty doo
I don't do it every week and even if I did, I'd simply cut back on doing other things
>>
>>28904732
I shoot like every other day.
>>
>>28904683
I realized last time I went shooting just how much shooting costs me. that's why I work though, so I can go do things I enjoy.

The whole reason I work is so I can afford my hobbies. I hate working, I hate my job and I hate wasting time not doing the things I enjoy.

As you might imagine I give no shits how much I spend on my hobbies (guns and motorcycles), since they're basically my life. I wish they were cheaper, but I will continue to spend as much as I want.

I have no girlfriend, wife, kids, social life, debts or anything to drain my finances. I don't drink or smoke, I don't even have a TV. So basically I give no fucks.

20 rounds of .338LM costs me around £80. I shoot my 98b maybe two or three times a month, but my howa 1500 is in .223 rem so that's anything from £8 per 20 to £20 for 20 depending on what I buy.
People keep telling me to reload the .338LM but in all honesty, I can't be arsed with reloading.
>>
Low end brass 5.56x45 is like 33 cents a round
I can shoot 10 mags on any given day, that's like $100 and I don't even really notice, it's just worth it.

Can you put a price on throwing the whole world away while you meditate on one thing, and one thing only?

On the other hand reloading .308 is about 50-75 cents per round and a shit load of time focusing on case prep, for ammo that would cost $3-$4 a round if I wasn't reloading.

I'll shoot 100 rounds which would have cost me $300 from Dicks or the Internet.

But that doesn't even matter, because it's worth it.

If you can't afford to shoot get a better job or play video games and make model cars and do puzzles, or whatever people with no money do.
>>
I shoot about 300 9mm, 300 .45, 300 5.56, 100 7.62x51, 100 12 gauge in various formats, and then some random rounds every single week like my Nagants, AK, .22 for the kids and 20 gauge.. and I don't even have that great a job. Only $20 per hour. The best part is I can shoot on my own land and off my porch if I want and have set lanes and distances and no guessing involved. I even have lanes set up for training with targets off to the sides and this and that. It would be a shame if I didn't utilize what I do have. It's like a 3D archery range but with firearms.
>>
I reload so price is fairly negligible in the long run.
>>
>>28904923
That's what I think. Most people think I'm a creep though.

>you HAVEN'T watched the latest show?
>what do you even do with your time?
>you don't drink? lol, bro, just why man?

Benefits include the fact people actually want to leave me alone.
>>
I hardly ever shoot .22 any more. It's boring. If you buy ammo in bulk online you can get it cheap as fuck. I shoot on my own land so steel cased foreign ammo is good to go.

All of them I consider cheap.

I haven't shot a gun in over a year due to a new soul crushing career..
But... I used to go to the range 3x week and go through 200rds of 223 and 200rds of 9mm.
Buy cheap, collect brass even if you don't reload (there are places that buy that shit back), learn to reload.

>>

I've been shooting 9mm for fun lately, is $10 for a box of 50 really that expensive? Going to be starting .223 soon as well, just got a mini 14. And seeing as I can find a box of 20 for a little over $5 or $6 it doesn't cost that much more than 9mm.

Sure .22 are much cheaper, but often spotty to find, unless you go out to the big stores like Field & Scream or some place like it. Then you're paying a premium price for your ammo you might as well be buying it from scalpers or just move on to larger calibers.

I work for my hobbies, work hard play hard. A man puts up with a lot in order to do the thing he likes to do.
Sounds like it's time for some one to man up OP.

> one ak mag is 7 dollarydoos
In what mystical fairyland? Raifu ammo is at least 8 bucks for 20 everywhere I've seen.

That being said, one cocktail at a decent bar can easily cost you 7 bucks. I'd rather spend them dollarydoos on a few more rounds of .45ACP.

Also I have a job that pays half-decent, I don't have a girlfriend or wife or kids, and I spend most of my spare time trying to make more money.
>>
>>28905472
I have a .22 slide for my ccw. I can shoot 500 rounds with no fatigue to practice point shooting, trigger pull, rapidly acquiring new targets, and unfortunately, how to clear jams.

Then I swap out slides, run a few boxes of ball ammo to make sure those habits transfer over to the real deal. It is cheaper, I get more time shooting, and overall I have more fun.

It is also easier to introduce someone to guns on 22lr.
>>
>>28904683
I only ever shoot steel cases shit except for when it's 8mm Mauser or my Tokerev and Brass is all I can find.

Tulammo done here is roughly $6 a box and my AK eats that shit like a fat kid a buffet.

The only problem I've had is that my Jericho often times has the steel cased stuff nosedive into the feed ramp and not feed, but that's probably shit mags.
I need to get a new mag.

I also keep the trips pretty short so I'll only ever shoot at max three mags of 7.62x39, five or six 9mm, and a couple of clips worth of 8mm Mauser.

They don't have to be huge ordeals to be fun (range trips, that is)
They just have to be long enough to do some shooting. Actually, the less prep required the less stressful and therefore the more fun and enjoyable.
>>
>>28905431

Not only that, but when people hear "single man" and "metric ton of guns" they start coming up with crazy ideas because the MSM has them brainwashed.
>>
>>28906049
Also, .22 is boring and stupid OP.
Buy something worth a damn and feed it well.

Also, I meant to say "down" earlier not "done"

Meh. Most rounds are only 2-4 times more expensive than 22, and you likely shoot 2-4x as much 22 in a single outing, so I think it evens out.

.25 x 30 = 7.5
.25 is actually a cent or two more than you can get wolf x39 for. hes talking about $8 for 20 rounds. thats 40 cents per round. he could be buying .308 for that price
>>
>>28906202
> what's shipping, bruh?

You have to buy in real bulk to make the shipping charge worth it, which means dropping a cool 250. Internet buying is not conducive to "pay as you go" plinking.
>>
>>28906243
>he doesnt buy at least 1000 rounds of ammo per order
found the problem. buy in bulk and save, fag, or quit whining.
>>
>>28906130
You said people think you're creepy because you're a single gun owner. I posited that you're just a creepy dude in general, regardless of your guns.
>>
>>28906266

I like to think I'm fairly normal and well adjusted.
>>
>>28906265
Buying in bulk local is still not 25 cpr. And buying in bulk online means I have to wait for my goddamn bullets.
>>
>>28906302
By your own admission, nobody who knows you thinks that. If you've been honest in this thread, you might want to consider that you aren't as well adjusted as you think
>>
>>28906369
Buy in bulk and shoot whatever you have on hand. Once the bulk arrives you won't have to buy locally any more. And then once your stock runs low order more.

If a couple of thousand rounds is more than you can use just sell some of it cheaply to family or friends.

>>
>>28904683

Broke student here. I go to uni in a small city and I'm close to a range.

I shoot 1-2 times a week, but I shoot fewer rounds. I typically put about 100 rounds through my savage mk ii and 5-10 rounds through my Winchester 70. I also have a crate of SKS food that I should be working through faster, but I find my SKS's boring next to my bolt guns. I try to replace volume of fire with frequency, and I structure my practice to get more out of it.

Even then, this shit is expensive. 20 rounds of .30-06 per week, 52 weeks, $1.25 on average for a factory round. $30-50 for .22's every 2 or 3 weeks. Then there's oils and solvents, targets, range membership, and the limited fuel I use going to and from the range - it gets a little retarded. Just have to suck it up. I'm going to try to trade some of the milsurp I collected before going back to school for a .223 bolt gun that I can use as a cheap trainer.
