I want one of these really bad. Are they still commonly available?

All of the stores in my area are full of fudd guns and no one has a decent selection of surplus stuff.

Should I try an online auction site? Help me find a k-31, /k/.
>>
bump, someone must have some surplus knowledge around here.
>>
I found mine at Gander Mountain for $350 in January. I would want to see it in person to inspect the crown, barrel, and bolt.

K31 thread?

So, OP when you get one take a look if you can find one with walnut stock. Also, the K11s are quite good and if you can find a K31, the K11 will be just as good.

Diopter sights are also a must have if you are really into the K31.
>>
>>28897068

So Gander Mountain is a viable place to look? Did yours come in used on sonsignment?

I'm not sure, they said they get like two in a year. They still have the other one there if you live in eastern MI.

there. buy that one. yes the stock has been repaired, but you won't find one like it for that much.
>>
>>28897137
nice diopter. that yours?
was considering buying one from a place in MT, what is yours?
>>
>>28897068
This, check Gander Mountains

Bought one as soon as I got hired for $240 because lol sale

Haven't seen any more come into our location though, I saw a good number of fudds walking out with them for some reason

>>

Okay, I'm on the way to my local GM to see what they may have. Already checked a few other places, just for the sake of curiosity.
>>

Cabelas sometimes has them too.

seriously who use this anymore ?

Dollar Bill Ammo for the next few decades. Swiss aren't making any right now. So it will be a long time before they have to turn the machines back on to make more. Which by then they could be using a 7.62nato or LSAT machine gun.

milsurp collectors who appreciate a service rifle that can hold a good MOA.
>>
>>28897740

Thank you. I didn't ask that question but you had an excellent response.
>>
>>28897690
It's one of the best rifles for the money that you can buy.
>>
>>28897709

OP here, I do a lot of reloading. I understand their surplus ammo is amazing but it'll be shot regardless.
>>
>>28897288
Did you actually look at that? The stock is crecked.
>>
>>28895516
K11s are still pretty common, if you don't mind getting an older design. I've heard they're just as accurate.
>>
Simpson LTD

The go to guys for swiss rifles, since you know, they're the primary importers as well
>>
>>28897877
These are the guys to go to for just about any milsurp. I like going to their website just to look at the cool rare shit I can't afford
>>
>>28897877
They're sold out.

OP for the most part you've missed the boat on the K31s. They're not readily available and definitely not cheap anymore.

So I made it to Gander and they have one, to the tune of $650 fucking dollars.

Dare I even inquire if this is some special snowflake model? I don't know enough about them to not get fucked if it isn't.
>>
>>28897990
The wood does look immaculate.

OP here...

If it was mint, would it command that kind of money?
>>
>>28897990
K31 prices have always varied pretty hugely in the past, aside when they were sold at places like classics recently.
>>
>>28898030
Unless it has a P serial number, if it looks brand new it was probably refinished.

This is a K31 with a P serial, made in the 70s, I paid 680 CHF for it: >>28897137

Refinished K31s can look good, but you should check the bolt and receiver for any problems since I've seen ones that were refinished and had no less than 8 barrels through it.
>>
>>28898138

No "P" before or after the serial... It's in great shape.

Also, serial number is six digit.
>>
>>28898138

Op again, could you please assist, since you seem to know about them.

This thing looks insanely good. The bore/crown are perfect. Does the fact that the serial number is so low tell you anything?
>>
Some help would be helpful...

Boasting in a Swiss thread. Pe57 soon, fellow schweizaboos!

Btw any actual Swiss who have served, how many mags are issued with the stgw57 and stgw90?
>>
>>28898527
Oh check swissrifles.com for sn lookup and dating. 650 is a bit high for a k31 but you missed the boat on 350 k31s, so imo if its nice I'd go for it, you'll forget the extra hundred you paid in a year but you'll have the rifle for decades
>>
>>28897990
They're still listed on Gander's site, I'd ask if them can knock it down to $400 since that's what they're listed for.

They'll do that at the one near me, the only way I could see them not doing it is if it was sold to them from a private person and they overpaid for it.
>>
>>28899737
Genf here
I didn't do the army.
>>
>>28899883

After looking around a while, they had 3 other rifles in much worse shape for $400.

The guy behind the counter said they bought this one from a guy's collection that came into the store.

>>28899778

Serial number dates it 1940. This thing looks so much better than the other 3 they have, I'm beginning to wonder if it was refinished.

It would still leave my personal void for a K-31 though...

I'm honestly willing to pay that kind of money for this K-31, if it's actually worth that kind of money. I don't know enough about them, so maybe someone here does.

Have you seen them sell for ~$300 recently and be in very good shape?
>>
>>28901333
Yes, if you're patient. But even if you aren't $450 will do you fine all day long.
>>
>>28901362

But they want $650 for this one... They want $400 for their shitty ones, this one is in very good shape.
>>
>tfw bought my K31 with troop tag and 180 rounds of GP11 for 280 from a guy down the road

Granted, the wood and metal finish has seen better days, but the bore and crown are perfect.

The scratches, gouges, and faded bluing have started to grow on me. Thank you, Fritz Luhti....
>>
Gander Mountain carries them sometimes

These guys have some in stock but they are slightly over priced though.

They have a pretty good deal on Chilean Mausers
>>
>>28895516
I bought one of the "B" grade k11 carbines from Aim about 4 months ago.
It has great looking yet beat up wood, faded blueing but i has a a perfect bore. It even had a troop tag all for $220, plus i got a bayonet with the money i saved by ordering the b grade over the regular.

The guns would cost 4-5k to make brand new so just appreciate that you can even get one if you find it. Gp 11 ball ammo should be a bitch to find though.
>>
I appreciate those who've contributed to the conversation.

I'm still wondering, if there's anyone out there who knows a fair amount about these rifles, what kind of condition one would need to be in to warrant a $650 price tag?

I really don't want to pass this rifle up and find out I should have grabbed it for some reason or another...
>>
>>28902246
Dude in today's market it is not worth $650

Please look at my first post, the are better options they getting ripped offed

>>28901602
>>
>>28895516
Black Market Arms on Gunbroker has a bunch right now. A lot are pretty overpriced for their condition, but there are a few good ones.
>>

>Black Market Arms

wew lad
>>
>>28902341

I looked at your post. I appreciate the input.

They must have their prices fucked on all the K-31s they have. They had three that were really rough and they still wanted $400 for them. I mean, the barrels, stocks and bluing don't even come close to the one they had for $650.

I guess I was hoping someone would justify it and tell me they aren't ripping me off... I guess I'll just have to keep searching for a quality rifle like the one they have, but at a more reasonable price.
>>
>>28901449
Hence my use of the word PATIENT. Clearly, you are not. So you will be unlikely to find a good deal and will over pay. If that's fine to you then go nuts.
>>
>>28900063
It's probably refinished. Many people in Switzerland refinish their old rifles, some do it for personal reasons since it's the rifle that they were issued and they want it to look good.

I would have it inspected first, if everything looks good then you should get one.
>>
>>28897990

Holy fuck am I glad I bought mine 3 years ago

>>28904419

How would you know there had been that many barrels through it?

Also, I looked up some of the inspection marks(pic related) and this one has a Bern inspection mark.

I'm not sure if that somehow makes it less rare.

Any one tried to haggle with those fucks at Gander Mountain? Will they play ball? Refinished or not, if I could talk them down to a reasonable price I'd buy it...
