>U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter seems to get the reality that the so-called “coalition” of 66 countries that are supposedly fighting ISIS in Iraq and Syria is a sham. Most of these countries are contributing nothing to the fight and many that once did have ceased doing so.

>President Obama’s strategy in Iraq and Syria has been seemingly more about running out the clock on his last term than about actually defeating ISIS. Dozens of daily air strikes executed under very tight rules of engagement have been at best a form of chemotherapy that has kept the ISIS cancer from growing locally, but now the Islamic State’s ideology is metastasizing in other parts of the planet like Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Sinai Peninsula and central Africa. In fact, even as Obama has claimed that ISIS is contained, his own generals have stated the exact opposite.

>The strategy itself, one based primarily on medium-altitude air strikes, had nearly no chance of success from the outset. It was one based on a deep misunderstanding of the application of air power and its limitations. It was also extremely late to develop and excruciatingly slow to roll-out compared to past air campaigns that saw hundreds of targets being hit in its opening days, instead of just a handful. This gave ISIS the time to adapt to precision air power, and today, after tens of thousands of bombs dropped, there are as many ISIS militants on the battlefield as there were when the first bomb was dropped.

Far from being a muslim but you've got to give one thing to these ISIS fighters - they have massive balls, they fear NOTHING and have nothing to lose and are about the most bizarre thing to happen in 21st century

They are the baddest, toughest sandniggers who have often not only survived 10 years of US droning in Iraq but Russian pounding of Afghanistan as well

These guys are like the soldiers of old and if you were to fight them on terms like the Kurds for example have to fight them on you would feel very real fear
>>
>>28885682
>not fear anything
everybody fear something, but you have to found it

my bet is on ISIS pride, all they do most of the time is capturing some lands and making shit tons of videos, videos about EVERYTHING, turn down their pride and they'll start to loose their shit

My point is that our western soldiers just want to get through the bullshit and survive at the end of the day - ISIS fighters will look at particularly hard enemy strongpoint, say allahu akbar and go all out accepting the fact that they may actually die in the assault. This type of forlorn hope shit was very common in europe, people basically accepting impossible assignments just for a shot at promotion and fame but our soldiers do not have that mindset anymore.

Its often said that hi tech shit like drones and air power make that sort of thing obsolete but these assholes prove that its not so, all they have is an iron resolve and an AK and they are still going strong

I really think that in their shoes modern western soldiers would not be able to go as far as they do, they'd just think it ain't worth it.
>>
>>28885873
Are you saying that people who give a shit about some mud holes are willing to go to greater lengths than ones who don't? I had no idea.
>>
Assad will become victorious. It is clear that obama will not want a legacy of war as the first black president. He is doing as little as possible to leave syria to the next president. Then he'll write a shitty memoir ten years from now about his achievement for peace.
>>
>>28885873
The only retards who still believe in this shit are Americans, who usually come from a less economically well endowed background and are pumped full of US propaganda to throw their lives away. This is also why the US is the only country with a military worth a damn. But even then, the majority of US troops, maybe 2/3rds. sign on not expecting to have to fight and are just coasting through to gain benefits. They far outnumber the retards, crazies and hopeless cases and unlike them will not be so willing to sacrifice.

A ceasefire does not mean the anti-ISIS coalition is not falling apart.
>>
>>28886783
eh, we'll see. Assad is gaining power and the use of a ceasefire can help it gain better relations with other countries that are trying to fight ISIS

weaker FSA elements will follow along because they don't want to fight a two front war, which they are currently loosing.

However if there is group fractionalization within the FSA, elements of it might break away and attack the SAA on their own.

>>28886797
It means that there is room for growth, and if Assad maintains a ceasefire, there is a possibility that he's invited or at least seen even if it is unofficially as part of the anti ISIS coalition. Sure the Sauds might be mad about it, but France and the US would try to work with Syria or at least ignore it for the time being

I mean the ceasefire is meant for all non ISIS factions to attack ISIS instead of each other (even if it is for a short period of time)
>>
>>28886710
Anyone have that gif of the chicken asking for proof, then gets blown to bits by a double barrel?

Like 2% of all strikes were from Canada

Really, your time effort and money are better spent on training soldiers and supplies to kurds not on the prowess of 6 fighter jets.
>>
>>28886897
yeah, but even then its a cop out. We should have kept the fighters while at the same time done as what Trudeau is doing and increased the number of troops in Iraq training the Kurds.

Even if the contribution is minimal with regards to the fighter jets bombing ISIS, it is just as important as it is to train Kurdish security forces.

There has been lots of genocidal actions in Syria. It'd be hard to find a group that didn't participate in some sort of ethnic revenge killing.

At least it's not a systemic modus operandi for the Kurds. Didn't the Kurds try some YPG soldiers a few months ago for some of that shit?

They're not really good. They're just the least bad. They are also the most effective army on the ground at the moment.

Yeah, let's not fight ISIS, that sounds much better. I'm sure the ISIS HATES it when we don't fight them. Fucking Baghdadi, I'll slice your nose if you shill any harder.
>>
>>28888523
Look, m8, ISIS has a plunder-based economy. Leave them alone, they won't last a decade, they'll devour themselves and shatter in lieu of anything to fight against.

But no, by all means. Use the same means that have been so effective in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bomb weddings and funerals with your drones while shouting USA and humping cows. (Or bald eagles, as your preference.)

Convince everyone that what ISIS says is true; that the west is declaring war on islam and that anyone who values their religion must join up to fight the west. Fighting them is playing into their narrative.

Let me repeat that, when you fight them, they win. When you fight them, they continue to get recruits, continue to point out "See? We are backed by God- even all these western powers cannot prevail against us!" When you fight them, they can go to poor Ahmed, dirt farmer #3982, whose son was playing in a field when a Predator decided to level it, and go "Wouldn't you like to avenge your son's death?"

They aren't a state. They'll collapse if they have to pretend to be one outside of wartime.

If anything, its forcing the world to take a look at the arabs and to a larger extent, islamic countries in general, and go "what the fuck. i mean, whoa."

Turkey and Pakistan are expendable allies to the US. Sorry to any turks here, your people are cool, your government is awful.

Realistically, the US will shake its finger at what is going on, bomb the shit out of things that are justifiyable, Russia will bomb the shit out of everything else, and both of them will sell weapons to both sides.

Saud is about to meet a whole world of well deserved asspain for allowing it's money to fund this shit for decades. Cant play both sides of the fence and think yourselves the witty merchants forever. Shit comes back to bite you.

Turkey gets to be the gate keeper to this bullshit because it was going on in their backyard.

Assad specifically targeted the moderate rebel groups first, to chew them up and destroy them.
So that the west was presented with "back dictator" or "back jihadis".

He's talking about post 2011.

The US spent tons of money and effort to bring the Sunnis into the government fold, and quite literally bribing the militias to lay down their arms.

When the US left Malaki and his Iranian buddies wasted no time purging all the Sunnis and driving them towards what would become ISIS.

>>28891714

ISIS in it's current form didn't exist in 2012. Assad's crackdowns on what was then fairly moderate protesters was key in expanding ISIS's support base by radicalizing the opposition.

All that happened was a single unit of the YPG bulldozed a village of what they suspected to be ISIS supporters. The civilians were unharmed IIRC but their homes were destroyed. The unit was then arrested and tried before a court and UN council of human rights sucked all their dicks for being so swift and progressive.

The YPG not only fight alongside other groups in the SDF & the SAA, but have a number of different ethnic and religious fighters within their organisation.
