What can you guys tell me about bayonets?

I had a fucklong argument with some British guy, who insisted that bayonet charges are still commonly done, extremely effective (even vs. disciplined opponents, not only against sandkips), and that not only British do them, but other people too - French in Mali, Austrians, and US Marines even.

Despite my best attempts, I can't find any examples of modern bayonet charges, beyond the few the Brits did in the sandbox. And it doesn't really make any sense to me either - I mean, I suppose it would be simpler to just simply shoot the enemy than to attempt to close in for a stab, and if the enemy is too close to shoot, I'd suppose the bayonet, making the rifle longer, would also have trouble being utilized.

So, am I just being a mongoloid, or are bayonet charges an outdated tactic?

>some British guy,
1. You are a dumbass for even listening to some noguns assualt spoon wielding bong(seriously this is almost as bad as considering australians to be humans)
2. You are a mongoloid

your inane britbong ramblings aside, I always wondered if the blunt SKS bayonet was ever actually used to kill someone in combat
>>
>>28870294
You impale someone with it. No slashing.
>>
>>28870270
Even yet most Britbongs are better trained and more competent than americycks :^)
>>

Better trained at getting on their knees for Abdul maybe. After all, the majority of the UK's population is made up of appeasement cucks.

What is the topmost gun? Is it some RK-62 model?

Show him that video of the south African miners on strike being fired on when they try to rush the police line. Then see how effective he thinks bayonet charges are.
>>

I have been deployed all over Afghanistan and to several areas in Iraq, not to mention Saudi, Kuwait, Haiti, Bosnia, and panama...I have never seen anyone affix their bayonet while in combat, let alone actually stab someone with it.
>>
Maybe "bayonet charges" in the sense of "getting closer to the enemy and shooting them while you just so happen to have your bayonet fixed."

Bayonets are mostly for utility knife and intimidation purposes these days. The only military members that regularly affix them are those in honor guard and shit and prison guards.
>>
>>28870759
Most bayonets make shit utility knives and are just extra weight.
>>
Of course bayonets are still used.

People don't walk around in warzones with them affixed just for shits and giggles.

Maybe they'll stop being used when people become immune to getting fucking shanked

I have a huge boner for bayonets anyway. So sexy. You should have one for every rifle you have that can affix one.
Too lazy to go take pictures of my other rifles right now though.
>>
>>28870582
That's actually a American. She's from Seattle, lived in London for about a year and won't shut up about it.
>>
>>28870107
the USMC uses bayonet training more to instill an aggressive mindset than as actual combat training. That said, while I was in we inventoried everything in the armory once (down to fucking computer mouses) and my battalion had literally hundreds of pristine bayonets. Would we ever use them in combat? lol no (pog life!)
>>
>>28870800
I actually do have a bayonet for every rifle that will take one...and a pistol bayonet. Some of those fuckers are expensive.
>>
>are bayonets sekse
Yes
>would they have any role in modern combat
No
Last I checked we aren't in the Pacific theatre of WWII

When I deployed to Iraq, they didn't even issue us bayonets even thought we had them in our connex.
I think they were afraid we would stab each other.
Half way through the deployment they took all the pistols away from enlisted men too, because I think they were afraid we'd shoot ourselves with them after someone actually did in a different battalion.
>tfw they thought we couldn't shove a SAW or M4 in our mouth and end the pain.

Agreed. My Type 99 bayonet isn't even in great condition and it was still $100.
Also it turns out I actually do have a couple low-quality pictures of some of my other bayonetted rifles.

Afganland or Iraq? I know a guy who had to clean up after someone gave their beretta a blow job. Shits amazingly fucked up.
>>

Read the first sentence

They told that guys family he was "cleaning his weapon". He locked his door, strapped his helmet on, and blew his brains out.
I laughed the first time I heard about it from the fact he put a helmet on, I guess in hope it would bounce around or something.

This one was cheap, though. It's a Mauser bayonet manufactured for export as far as I can tell. No stamps or markings, though, so who knows where it ended up.
Picked it up (with scabbard like all my bayos) at an antique shop for $5 when I was about 12. I didn't get a Mauser rifle to match it until about 15 years later.

Not to be a douche, but that is a Type 30 bayonet...the Type 30, 38, & 99 all used the same style of bayonet. That being said, there are TONS of variations. I have a couple different versions for my Type 38 and Type 99 as well.
>>
>>28871639
Oh, the Type 2 uses it also...
>>
>>28870107
If the enemy has ammo a bayonet charge will do nothing and kill everyone. In an accidental melee, bayonets are clumsy and slow, giving way to knives or pistols.
Every soldier has hundreds of rounds of bayonet charges in his goddamn ammo bag, why should they ever want to do an actual one.

You have about the same reach as if you just used it like a normal knife when attached to a bullpup to use a bayonet to its fullest capacity it should be mounted on a long gun like in the attached pic.
>>
>>28870107
>>28870270
They're not common but the last three recorded bayonet charges were all carried out by Scottish regiments in the British army, the last in Iraq and all by the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. In the last action they were surrounded, out of ammo and outnumbered and the charge was extremely effective and killed or drove off the enemy with no loss of life. The bayonet charge was developed by and for Scottish regiments of the British army so it is fitting.

There is no recorded instance of Americans doing it since Korea, or anyone else that I know of.
>>
>>28875515
Americans would have just wept behind a wall until a helicopter showed up to pull their shit out of the fire. Their poorly trained conscripts have no desire to kill other coloured people.
>>
Bayonet is an excellent deterrent against grabbing the gun from around corners. Ain't nobody dumb enough to grab a knoife
