In a world dominated by Multicam, tans, and digital camo, is there still a place for Woodland?
The vast majority of gear excludes this camo. Is it not "tactical" looking enough, or has it become less effective than newer patterns?
if you like it then wear it, most of /k/ loves to play dress up anyways so why not
>>28867172
if you're a hipster operator like me, yes
>>28867172
I like it. It's cheap and if you live in a literally woodland area, it works. Well, for me it does at least. I've had guys walk past me while I was laying down in in a bush with it before.
>>28867172
>Is it not "tactical" looking enough
MARSOC disagrees
>>28867172
Woodland works everywhere, faggots just want the latest patterns
>>28867172
woodland works amazing where I live. multicam is fashionable right now but disregard that and treat it as just another option.
>>28867794
>Woodland works everywhere
There is no need to lie.
>>28867793
they wore it because the ANA did, that was literally the only reason
It sucks ass compared to multicam and AOR1/2, there's no opinion there. It's inferior, especially through NIR

>>28867172
Honestly I always liked the Polish WZ 93 much better. It just works much better than woodland where I am in North Georgia.
I don't know man. I live in South Florida, doubt any of the tans or FDE work down here. Mostly grass and shit.
>>28867979
tans don't but the coyote browns do.

>>28868741
*I sold everything in that picture
still got plenty of shit tho
It's as effective as it's always been. But there are both more and better patterns available now. With everything on the market it's much easier to find something that matches where you live than in the Woodland/Desert days.
And earth tones like coyote or ranger green are more universal.
>>28867977
N. GABro! Yeah Woodland's not that great here, too dark in the late Spring/Summer and too green in Fall/Winter/early Spring.
I still buy it cuz it's cheap and I think it looks cool.
>>28869861
Yeah, but WZ 93 just seems to work the longest out of most of the camo patterns I've used before.
As a person who loves woodland so fucking much I shelled out for an LBE just to rock it, my criticism is that it's too dark. The biggest mistake most people make with camo and ghilles too(other than too much burlap) is that they make them too dark, and you stand out in the field. I really don't like multicam but it works so damn well it's disgusting. MARPAT too.
Honestly it makes me think of "Stripes".

Well said, anon. Aside from that I like it because when I was a kid it was the norm. Dat childhood nostalgia.
>>28867172
Would woodland work for central oregon pine forest like pic related? All I've had recommended is gay ass marpat and flecktarn (which a lot of people say is too dark for the region.)

HET.
We're talking about a green forest right? Choices are limited. Now a brown forest in wintertime or late fall you have thousands of choices,
green forest? Just go with my three pics above.
Woodland camo doesn't really work, it's too dark and just stands out anywhere.
(Damn I forgot this Danish camo, take a look)
Also the Canadian camo Cadpat should be great in green forest.
I fucking love M81, but I also love the 80s so I might be a bit biased. It's good enough, but obviously not the best camo. It's much better when dirty or a little faded as it loses the darkness that gives it away. Overall I prefer DPM or AOR2, and MARPAT depending on the conditions.
What would you all say are good examples of a camouflage to use for the yellows to browns of the mud and field?
Multicam and Pencott Badlands look amazing, and there's a few special snowflake ones that seem good.
>>28877125
>>28874658
So i'm getting the impression that woodland looks nice here only after several coats of sand, dust ,dirt, mud, and when brand new (eg >>28874672 it just looks stupid)
But at that point why not just get something tan if all you're doing is making the color more tan

>>28877280
It and alice gear have a nice way of being stained by the earth around them
>>28878485
what pack is that?
Growing up I was exposed to the Army in M81 my entire childhood.
It's actually so ingrained into me that even now that I am in the Army, when I picture a US Army Soldier in my mind I don't picture the uniform and equipment I wear and use, instead I still picture the uniform my dad wore, M81 BDUs and ALICE equipment.
>>28879107
>yfw the same thing will happen with ucp
We are not sure what camo to use in our group yet. We all have a bunch of Flecktarn pices but we dont want to get mistaken for Bundeswehr when SHTF so we cant go full Flecktarn.
Location is south-western germany.
I think DMP would be a good idea since it looks like it matches good with our flora and its easy to get cheap surplus gear.
Is there anything that speaks against it?
Also how does M90 perform? i know the surplus stuff is more expensive and less common but HNNGG its sexy af desu.

>>28867973
Everyone seems to be glossing over this fact.
>>28874182
It's a remapped climate map, not a real camouflage map. Down in Tucson I'd say MTP is pretty good, there's a ton of foliage and the soil is roughly the same color as the brown shades.
Also as an aside, the sage scrublands of eastern Washington and Idaho are the only place UCP is an appropriate or useful camouflage.
>>28878705
>Guy Cramer
Shit man, ignore that guy's stuff about camo. He's inventing an invisibility cloak. It's totally real and totally works and he'd totally show it off to everybody if it wasn't super-uper-duper top secret and he really shouldn't be talking about it so he'll just talk about how he can't talk about it.
Also the U.S. sucks for not adopting US4CES so go Mexico. Pic related so you can see how much better MEX4CES is than any U.S. camo and admire the giant M16s Mexico issues to female troops.

>>28867172
>is there still a place for Woodland?
Yes. All patterns have somewhere that they will work. However, the useful space for most "woodland, jungle, or forest" patterns developed in the 20th century is relatively narrow. To some extent, this is because these patterns were developed for use in what are commonly considered environmental extremes or monoclimates (e.g. dense jungle or rainforests). These patterns are heavily saturated relative to the majority of environments that people actually live in. Modern patterns cove a much larger battlespace than Tiger Stripe, M81, Flecktarn, etc.
>has it become less effective than newer patterns?
Essentially yes. Most modern patterns use colors that are not as heavily saturated and omit black as a color. Even modern dense forest patterns such as MultiCam Tropic or A-TACS FG stand out less in jungles or rainforests.
>>28867961
Multicam is so versatile you only need one pattern for everyth... what? ...oh... There's more than one Multicam pattern? Arid, Tropical, Alpine and Black? Well, Multicam is still the best pattern because it's Murrican!

It's just that /k/, and indeed the world, is full of autists who want to cosplay as soldiers.

>>28882595
It's pretty much multicam, woodland marpat, flecktarn and whatever that desert pattern is called (sorry man).
This map isn't that great either.
>>28873512
Up in WA, I have some regular multicam gear. Tropical is a bit dark when things dry out or you leave tree cover.
>>28882682
>This map isn't that great either.
Woodland marpat in eastern Washington is a joke.
>>28882699
Agreed, and flecktarn for the entire eastern half of the US (except nwu for the grt lks, kek) is retardation as well.

It works pretty well in the ferns found in new-growth PNW forests. This is not a false statement. The fern undergrowth is also extremely dark.

>>28883392

Buddy, it costs more to print patterns onto clothes. Patterns are worth 10-30 bucks if they offer better camouflage. That is just not that much money.
>>28888634
that adds up once you're paying extra for each pouch and uniform.
