Starting February 1st they will start selling M1 Carbines for $625/wo magazine
>>
Oh shit time to double down and buy one.
>>
Neat!

On a related note are service grade garands still coming with new cmp stocks?
>>
My wife and I are both ordering one.
>>
>>28719018
They are only allowing you to buy one per year so hopefully they'll last for awhile

They have always had M1 Carbines but only enough to sell in their online auctions. I guess they found a good pile of them in the warehouse
>>
fuck, my membership is already lapsed. And CA changed laws since last i ordered so it either has to go through an 01 ffl, or i need to get a COE and 03 ffl.

I guess i'll wait and see if i move later this year. if there are some left, i'll grab one. I already have an M1 carbine, but it's Thai police, not usgi.
>>
As an owner of a WWII surplus M1 Carbine, have fun getting ammo, fuckboys.

well, they're light and fun to shoot.

ammo is cheaper than 30-06 as well. Surplus 30-06 is like what from cmp now? 60ish cents a round?

I just got one for 490, mag included and with the cannon stamp on the stock. The only missing thing is the sling... on this matter, how is the surplus market for M1 carbine slings and mag pouches?

>>
>>28720622
I don't have anything against the CMP, they're usually pretty great, but these M1s just aren't a good deal.
For $800-1,000 it's not difficult to find a WWII/Korea M1 in pretty damn good condition, well above CMP field/service grade, on gunbroker or locally if you're patient and poke around.
Unless I just purely wanted a beater M1 that I didn't care about, these CMP guns have no real appeal to me.
>>28720626
I've purchased 2x from the CMP, both Garands, and both are well described by the CMP's official descriptions.
~$600-700 for a mishandled M1 with who knows what foreign stamps on it and with a questionable degree of pitting and corrosion is a poor deal, at least for me.
But you go on and enjoy your poorfag special.
>>
>>28720609
only commercial ones. the only one which seems to not suck are the keep shooting ones, but i've not tried myself
>>
Got my order in for a Service, holding my breath. In the mean time I'm going to dream of an IBM carbine.

Any ideas where these came from? I was under the impression the Korean guns went to the moderate and secular head choppers in Syria.
>>
>>28720706

>>
>>28720720

>>
>>28720311
5000 rounds for $221 comes out to $0.04/round, dumbass
>>
Whats the cheaped .30 carbine around? I only see ~.44 cents per round, which seems like a lot

How much are mags, either 15 or 30?
>>
So whats the process for this? Anyone have the old guides?

I know that you need to be a member of a collectors club like GCA and have some paperwork that shows you know to handle guns. Is that about it? Anything else missing?

>>
>>28720849
.40ish per round for Aguila some places. Not too bad for a round that you shoot occasionally. If you want to dump thousands of rounds down an M1, get an Auto Ordnance, or better yet a newer and better gun. Personally, I'll put a few boxes down it per year alongside the big sister I got from the CMP, and give it to a son someday

Commercial mags are cheap and under $20, USGIs are cheapish. Maybe $30 or $35
>>
>>28718985
Neat, it even fires a straight wall pistol like cartridge that would be cheap and easy to reload for.
>look up load data
>only load data for 4 powders online due to how picky the thing is so would really need to stock up in case of a panic instead of just switching to a different powder
>stretches the shit out of cases to the point where people trim the cases every 1-2 loads after sizing
>cases need to be lubed even if you're using carbide dies
>ends up costing $.22 per round to reload plus extra PITA vs regular pistol cartridges
>new brass cased ammo starts at $.32
Well... Okay, looks like I won't be reloading for that if I do get one.

>magazines are hit and miss
>requires club membership that brings the price up another $30
>gun apparently isn't that reliable in general
Damn, I've always thought it would be cool to have an M1 carbine, but at this point why shouldn't I get an AR-15 instead? $655-$715 could buy a decent AR.
>>
>>28720810
where are you finding 5000 rounds for $221?
>>
>>28721039
>cases need to be lubed even if you're using carbide dies

what

I thought lubing cases was only necessary for bottlenecked cartridges

I guess the length can result in enough friction to get the case stuck. That's lame.

SR-4756 was discontinued and N110 powder (and anything made by VihtaVuori) is hella expensive. I was actually able to find load data for 6 different powders online but 2 of those were discontinued. Brings it up to 7 different powders total or 8 if you count the N110 though.

An older Hornady manual says W296 and H110 work as well, which is what I expected since IMR 4227 is used with them in .300BLK. That also implies Lil Gun works as well.
