Because it's a parts kit that I assembled...? Firearm doesn't come with side plates so you need to buy some or make some, I made them. And then welded them. Mac receiver flats don't commonly come as one piece because the atf classifies mac flats as a firearm even before it's assembled, so it's three separate pieces you must then weld later.

This reminds me of a new in box Cobray M-11 9mm I found buried in my evidence vault with the invoice paperwork. This was during the time of the dreaded AWB of 1994-2004. It had been ordered by a previous chief before the ban, but it was never even fired, probably because it had acquired the reputation as a baby killer gun, and got hidden away.
(Ironically, that former chief was involved in an incident where he fired an AR at a wrecked car on a pistol-only training range toward town, and the ricochet hit a 8 year-old kid a half mile away. He didn't tell anyone about the ricochet for a whole day while all the law enforcement in the county was searching for the shooter. Kid survived, and is living comfortably on lawsuit money.)
Anyway fast forward to my find. Show M-11 to new chief who was very pro-funs, but he took one look at the poor welds and materials, and told me "I don't ever want to see that POS ever again, hide it back in the evidence vault." Hide it back in vault. I never got to shoot a brand new M-11 that never saw the light of day. In his defense though, at the time we couldn't sell it, and he absolutely refused to let any gun be destroyed. He said he didn't care if we ran out of room in the vault storing broken revolvers and shotguns, he would never give a grabber the satisfaction of knowing that a single gun got destroyed.
