I have a question /k/, why did so few countries use shotguns for combat historically? It seems really only the US used shotguns during WWI and WWII? Why didn't anybody else see the utility in them?
>>
>>28714913
They're not very good in combat and aside from 'scaring people' and breeching, they were an inferior choice compared to just having an SMG (as in back during World War One and Two).
>>
>>28714913
That thing is pure sex.

There was an episode of Tales from the Gun that mentioned the Europeans saw shotguns as something upper class twits used to kill birds. Where in America they were used for survival. Basically, everyone but Americans saw it as an ungentlemanly gun. Pretty sure they even mentioned the Germans in WWI threatened to execute anyone prisoners caught with them.
>>
>>28714913
Shotguns hurt the Europeans delicate shoulders so they weren't very popular with them, they prefered smaller cartridges
>>
>>28714913
They are still very much used today, as probably will be. I don't know about all the services, but I know the Marine Corps uses them with great effect.
>>
>>28715059
Just like German machinegun fire hurt americans as they rampantly ran around a beach.
>>
>>28715103
No, they had morphine, its only the yuros who cry when real soldier show up and start playing too rough
>>
>>28714913

They are only effective to around 10-15 feet, not suitable for most situations really.
>>
>>28715035
well, they also said the sound was ptsd inducing. And we did the same with their saw back bayonets, even though those were officially meant to just be a help for trench and werent that good for hurting people construction
>>
>>28715230
>They are only effective to around 10-15 feet, not suitable for most situations really.
Then how does duck hunting work retard?
>>
>>28715230
this isnt cod friend, shotguns have an effective range to 100 yards, while not rifle like, it isnt 5 yards like youre saying
>>
>>28715230
Arent slugs a thing?
>>
The main reason is probably because infantry doctrine of the day called for service rifles that could theoretically reach way out, hence full size rifle cartridges and sights designed to allow drop compensation at 1km.

VIDYA GAEMS

>>28715103
>Germans still salty that they cant win a battle even given every advantage
>>
>>28715230
You mean 100 to 150 feet you assblaster?

I would never carry a shotgun into battle, that's like full fudtard, but I don't think you've ever shot one before.

At 50 feet it's annoying trying to hit a bottle with buckshot but it will hit a man sized target just fine
>>
>>28715230
Yeah, all those little pellets exerted from the barrel at that force lose all momentum by 15ft
>>
>>28716117
That's depending on a fuckload of variables too, but assuming a regular 20 inch barrel with no choke, it's all over the place pretty quickly.

But all it takes is one shot to ruin your day.
>>
>>28715230
Successful bait
>>
Probably for ammo supply / logistics reasons.
>>
>>28716140
Let me shoot at you with a shotgun 30-45 feet away. We'll test your theory.
>>
>>28715230
>call of duty
>>
No one mentioning cannons with canister making a giant shotgun.
>>
British thought SMGs were better for urban close-quarters combat in Europe during WW2.

Shotguns were used extensively during the later Malayan Emergency though, because jungle warfare. That's where they excel and I suspect that's why the US use of them was more extensive in WW2 than other Allied powers

>>
>>28716264
Yeah i'd imagine cutting down the fucking forest with buckshot works well when you can't see your enemy during an ambush.

3 guys with shotguns can lay out some serious suppressive fire.
>>
>>28716240
Why don't they make canister shells for the A10?

The BRRRT has what, 3000rpm? Imagine how many projectiles that'd be if each 30mm round was actually 20 50bmg projectiles.
>>
>>28715103
Just like allied victory hurt German pride even to this day.
>>
>>28715103
Salty germans.
First the Russians rape their way through your sad country and now germans let the Muslims do the same.
Fucking pathetic.
>>
>>28717811
Also popular in 'Nam. They could remove brush and suppress tree lines if the point man took fire.

People saying shotguns aren't effective weapons aren't exactly right. They were generally well liked by the people that used them. They lend well to trench, urban, and jungle fighting. Even the Marines used them extensively as a weapon during Iraq, and I've heard some statements that they were good at putting people down quickly.

It's a big gun.

Unless you have any other automatic weapon.
Being 'well liked' doesn't mean that it was actually any good.
Il-2 were 'well liked' by Soviet ground troops, they still got shot down in droves.
>>
>>28717845
It'd be sweet for sure, but logistically and effectively a bad idea. The sad truth is that you could get the same or better anti-infantry/light vehicle capability with just a regular bomb, or a cluster bomb, or like almost anything.

Shotguns still do things other guns can't. I'm not saying they were the best, but they're nothing to scoff at. Especially when paired with guys that have rifles.
>>
Dammit /k/, we've been over this a thousand times.

Shotguns are inferior weapons in every way to conventional rifles.
Shotguns are tools first, weapons second.

Google returns no results. What shotgat is that?

.50 BMG is 12.7mm, you could only fit like 5 in a 30mm canister
>>
>>28714913
Well the bongs held back from shotguns and specifically smgs because they were seen as gangster weapons and not worthy of use by the military so there's ones reason. The Germans weren't happy with the Americans using shotguns since they saw them as inhumane and such.

Not being able to put reliable holes in people at 200 meters and drastically reduced firepower at range. Slower reloading as well. Perhaps compared to bolt action they might hold up, but they were still niche weapons best used in trenches.
I'm not an expert, but this should be around right.
>>
>>28715103
And american shotgun fire hurt Germans delicate sensibilities so much they wanted them banned during WW1
>>
>>28718031
I like this
>>
>>28717987
German girls get impregnated by black US servicemen by the thousands and the cucks can't do anything about it. Germany is pretty much a race mixing experiment right now lmao.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.
>>

>paired with guys who have rifles

have a bunch of guys with only shotgun and you get reckt and feel like you have a clumsy womp stick in your hands
Only rifle and you can still do ok.
Pair them and the shotgun dudes can spray at the enemy's cover whilst the riflemen pick them off because they can't stand up without getting sprayed

Lots of countries did, and still do, use shotguns for combat. They're just a specialized weapon for certain situations, not a general purpose arm.
