Ruger AR556. 799 MSRP, durable, full featured. Can be had for 600-700 new if you look, only downside is the factory stock sucks donkey dick (the butt looks like a breaching muzzle brake and doesn't grip the shoulder too well). Great bang for buck if you want fully assembled and full metal.

if you build the lower (<20 bucks of tools needed, it's easy as legos) and get an upper assembly then it's either less or the same price as a budget AR, but you'll know how your gun works, how to disassemble / clean / repair parts if they break, 10x better than some tard who bought a fully assembled cheap one.

And as the lowest price rifles are more likely to have a malfunction, that can be rather important.

The other main benefit is customizability, as you select exactly which barrel, handguard, sights, grip and stock you'll use, without paying any extra as the supply of base AR15 parts is so damn huge.
A free-floated quadrail AR with scope/red dot and a front handgrip certainly feels different than a basic vietnam style iron sights + handguard build.
Hell, if you're like most people, when you realize you can get it for 500-600, you might end up building one traditional and one 'tactical'
>>
>>28707018
You can look around psa if they get their uppers back in stock. Their premium line uses fn barrels iirc. Do you specifically want a non removeable carry handle or a flat top?

A-15 isn't technically a DPMS model. Most of their stamped lowers have rollmarks which say A-15, but those lowers are used indiscriminately throughout their 5.56 lineup. What indicates different models are the furniture and upper accessory options.

What's your budget? You can get a colt hbar a2 for like $900-$1,000 which I doubt you're willing to spend.

Just don't get a delton. They're shit. My advice, just save up a little bit more and keep an eye out on palmetto when they do restock.

Any specific reason you want a fixed carry handle?

the video talks about swapping parts like its what needs to be done to a beginners rifle

the best way to go about getting a new ar goes something like this
>buy rifle
there are rifles that you can buy that are under $850
http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=smith+and+wesson+m%26p+15+sport
>shoot your new rifle
irons and stock furniture are fine for a new buyer
>after a while of shooting, then you can buy some new parts
whether its a sight, new rail, etc.
>shoot your gun with new parts
a new ar owner shouldnt even worry about 1/2 the shit on that guys list until they become acquainted with their rifle, and at that point, you can build a entirely new upper if thats what you want

Just a heads up, they're hbar which means heavy barrel. And some don't have threads on the barrel so you can't put a muzzle brake on it.

A colt hbar was the first ar15 I ever shot.

>Most any rear sight

Cheap as shit, ~500 plus tax and FFL, fires perfectly fine. Save up for some magpul furniture (make sure they're OD green or tan so you look extra operator.) Obviously you're on a budget, so you're not going to get Daniel Defense-tier tolerances and quality, but if you just want an AR, or need a rifle fast, it's perfectly acceptable.

>People recommending $200 optics and shit
Rifle is fine. Rifle is better when you drop and extra 500-700 on it, but rifle is fine.

>>
>>28706790
Look for deals on psa. If you're patient you can get a mid tier AR for less than $600
>>
>>28707822
And if you watch the sales from lets say Palmetto State Armory, they have good deals on uppers all the time. They also have lowers that are complete on sale at least once a month. Just have an idea in your head as to what you want, watch the sales, if you have to get once piece at a time. I did this when I put together my first AR, and I still do it to this day. You will probably want to customize the furniture or whatever, but don't worry too much about that until you get a working boomstick.

>>
>>28708229
i never said a person HAD to buy a 2nd upper, i was just pointing out how pants on head retarded that video was when the OP was looking for entry level ar's

a new owner shouldn't buy a entry level ar, then spend hundreds on unnecessary accessories. And like I said, the buyer should shoot the rifle how it comes for a while and get a feel for it, then they can move on to buying what they want.
>>
>>28708229
Any stickies on what to look for when buying an upper/lower?
>>
>>28708159
>$1,300 msrp

You can get a daniel defense with that kind of money. Do it if you're a retard.
>>
>>28709420
Generally, lowers don't matter for the most part. Just avoid polymer and all other kinds of dumb shit and get a good quality milspec aluminum lower from anyone like
>spike's
>palmetto state
>axts if you like ambi

Most of your money is well spent on a good quality bcg and barrel, everything else really doesn't matter in terms of performance as much as both of those do.

You can get a pretty good upper from brands like
>bcm
>daniel defense
>spike's
>palmetto
>colt
>fn

You're better off buying a complete upper rather than the parts to assemble it.
>>
>>28709511
I don't have the knowledge to assemble anyway. I'd have to have one intact and then disassemble it to understand it.
>>
>>28709586
Assembling an ar15 is piss fucking easy. There's literally tons of videos online that will guide you through it.

Plus, you will actually know how your gun works when you do it. Don't be scared. For the upper reciever, it's literally putting it through two pins to connect it to your lower
>>
>>28709701
Ah, okay. Thanks, because I knew the upper was easy, but some idiots (i suppose) at the range were complaining about the reassembly. I've done tons of different pistols, but I've only owned a 22LR rifle, and never disassembled it.

As others have said, go research youtube for 30 minutes and then just build your own rifle. Hell, there's tons of places with "custom" uppers with endless options.

In pic related, I built for $420 about six months ago, minus the Aimpoint Comp M2. It's fired about 1300-1500 rounds of wolf steel cased besides the initial 60 rounds of wolf gold.
