In a world of fanboys, hype, marketing, stereotypes and newfags, what is the least douche bag gun you could actually carry?

Steyr?
>fully supported chamber
>geared to hand loaders and +p rounds
>triangular rails,,, triangular rails!
>crazy but good factory sights
>great company
>Haven't met any complete douche bags with one yet, probably due to small market share.
>>
>>28688059
it's slightly less hipster than the five-seven and the people who own it feel the need to justify their purchase and how great it is because they paid $450 for a glock clone
>>
>>28688059

I want one of those so bad. They look like a phaser or something

Do they make threaded barrels for them?

>Guns are douchebags

Do you think guns kill people too? What kind of fucking moronic thread is this. I know people who carry Glocks who are great, and who are douchebags. Same goes for 1911's from various manufacturers, and M&P's etc. etc.

Guess what it isnt the gun that makes them douchebags or not

I ordered mine last week.

it's the least reliable pistol i own.

it needs light oil, if it's too thick it will stop working
if you run it dry at all it will stop working
if it's below freezing outside, it will stop working
if you get it wet it will absolutely stop working.

when it does work it kicks shells into your face

mags are supposed to be 17, but it's better if you just load 15

other than that i guess the trigger is ok and the sights are neat.
>>
>>28688059
The answer is to buy a glock and never mention it. For the rest of your life, only discuss shooting techniques, drills, and training routines.
>>
>>28692156
I had shells coming back in my face when I first bought mine. Shipped it back to steyr and when I got it back it was perfect. They have really good customer service. But fwiw my gfs dad's brand new glock won't eject the brass and stovepipes every other round. Regardless of what type of ammo.

I have an M40-A1 Gen 5. I also have a .357 sig barrel and a 9mm bull barrel. Ask anything you want, I've ran a combined estimate of 7000 rounds through it so far. Have had 1 failure to cycle (old aguila ammo, box was a bit rough could have been a light powder charge.) beyond that, I carry it inna winter or when summer attire allows.

Pic related, was my old summer carry (SP101) but that's fighting with a sig 238 for pocket space now...

>>
I've never shot a steyr m9. Does the trigger feel as bad it looks?

If not, I'll probably get one this week.
>>
>>28692573
Have you actually shot one? They aren't particularly special in the world of plastic handguns.
>>
>>28688933
>They look like a phaser or something

This. This right here is what's wrong with some in the gun culture who they no these weapons are fucking toys.
>>
>>28692661
Trigger on the 4th and 5th generation is excellent and has been reviewed as the best polymer factory trigger (compared to Glock, M&P, XD, etc). The reset isn't loud but has a finger felt click. My pull is 5.5lbs and it is quite crisp, not a 1911 by any means, but not an LCP either.
>>
>>28692661
Trigger pull has a fair amount of take up (partially due to the full-blade "safety") but when you reach the wall it is a bit lighter than a Glock. Although the trigger, yes, does look a bit odd, it is much nicer than shooting something like say, an M&P where the face shape changes. Here, it goes straight back.

Reset is uninteresting. Short, but with little tactile response.

Overall, for me it's a take it or leave it thing. Shot better, shot worse. As far as factory triggers go in polymer guns go, I like Glock with a (-) connector as found on the 34/35/41 etc.
>>
>>28692694
I own one and can say I, personally, am more accurate with a Steyr M than a G19/G17, PX4 Storm, M&P Compact, XD, Kahr, and the P2022. I still have my glocks but have since sold the rest (gave the Kahr to my father, the M&P I gave to my mother in law).

They're targeted to hand loaders and plus pee ammo. They say that's why the extreme grip angle, child support chamber and not polygonal roofline.

So the springs are our were tuned for powerful ammo.

IGB Austria is the only company I know that makes one. Just emailed them and they sent me a price list as well as barrel specs for regular replacement/caliber conversion, threaded, and oversized length (up to 7.5"). Pricing is in the mid 200s range.
>>
>>28688933

https://steyrarms.com/accessories/barrels/threaded-barrel-ma-1-9x19-115mm-4-1-2.html
>>
>>28693712
They only offer it in 9mm and for the M. IGB is the same price and with a chooseable thread pitch for the end as well as the option to convert calibers.

Btw, anyone that would be looking to get a second barrel, buy an M/S/C/L 40-A1 as it will convert to any caliber currently available from Steyr.

>tfw no 10mm Steyr

Jesus I'd give my left freedom for one.
>>
>>28693820
Is there an oversized barrel for the 9mm conversion?
>>
>>28693881
Yep. It's a bull 9mm barrel which further reduces the felt recoil, what little there is.
>>
>>28694125
Where's the best deal on it? Also, I assume that if you bought the .357 barrel, you wouldn't need any additional mags?

I had been wanting one like crazy, wasn't able to find one for sale before I got out of the military and moved back to CA, and had given up hope of getting one since they had been taken off the handgun roster. Lo and behold the first shop I walk into has a used M40A1 sitting there for sale.

Sold it a year later, biggest gun disappointment I've ever had. Grip angle was sweet, pointy sights were neat, but the gun was super unreliable. The striker wouldn't reset, so I would have to constantly manually cycle the slide while shooting. No ftf's or fte's though. Sent it to Steyr, they said the sly xoxo don't replicate it. Picked up the BT bushings and other goodies, didn't help. Plus 10rnd mags were like $60 each at the time. The trigger was meh, a touch lighter than a glock trigger, but still a mushy mess. Good holsters were hard to find as well.

Every time I see a thread like this I get the urge to pick up an M9 and give them another shot, but then I remember talking the gun up to my shooting buddy, how it was my dream gun, the finest plastic wonder 9 on the market, but I couldn't ever even get through a single magazine without a malfunction.
>>
>>28696256

>>28694640
The gun can be had for 450-500 new, the barrels can only be had from IGB Austria, the .40 mats work for .357 Sig, and I got the LE marked 9mm magazines from CDNN

>>
>>28696256
When was this? The Gen 3.5 "new" M A1s had issues, everything newer is fine.
>>
>>28696256
>>28698652
They've had lots of teething issues over the years, from extractor and LCI issues and a very poor reputation largely thanks to the 'grey market' pistols that preceded the imports.
My current gen specimen has worked fine for me but anything older or not imported by Steyr itself should probably be avoided. They've ditched the LCI (and the extractor indicator alone doesn't qualify for CA bullshit, hence it's removal from the roster) and supposedly cleaned up the trigger pull a lot in the process, I can only speculate as I haven't tried the older versions but I find it way better than any other out of the box Glock clone.
>>
I have a M40A-1 and have intermittent FTF. Normally run jacketed wadcutter cheap shit ammo. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? Should I be running heavier grain rounds?

I think he's trying to say the handguns were designed and tuned for NATO spec ammo in the dumbest way possible. Hence the stiff op spring, extractor, fully supported chamber, and resultant problems people can have with cheap ammo.
