Hey /k/, so today is my birthday. I've got $1000 saved for gun purchases and I'd like to get myself something nice. What are some cool C&R or antique guns you guys would recommend?

Do you want like one or two nice military rifles or would you like a decent variety of stuff?

Yeah, i just got a ton of scholarship money and need to spend some before i get audited. I want to start my collection but I am living in an apartment and only have a truck, so storage seems like a bit of an issue
>>
>>28667622
OK, so you've already got a solid start in collecting. I think you need more semi-auto milsurp. Something like an M1 Garand, Swedish AG42, Egyptian Hakim, or an FN49.
>>
>>28667450
Mas 49. Not the 49/56 (which is still cool but not nearly as sexy).

Or reloading equipment and a bunch of dies, because if you like shooting milsurp regularly you should reload.
>>
>>28667667
I had a Hakim a while back but it wasn't really my cup of tea. May have been my fault but I kept getting stuff blown in my face from the DI system. What's a good price for an 8mm FN49?
>>
>>28667667
How much do FN49s go for?

It takes a couple hours a week. Surely you can squeeze that in. Unless you don't like shooting much, which is perfectly fine.

>>
>>28668107
German one from WW2, 1943 or earlier (qualitiy went down the drain in late 1944 and 1945)
>>
>>28668078
Depends on what you mean by high quality.
You can pick up perfectly fine yugo captures for around $300
>>
>>28667450
assuming the pic is of your collection, a k31, 1903, mas 36, 1917, krag, or fn/hakim
>>
>>28668145
>Quality went down the drain
Not really. Besides a few changes in the stock the quality isn't much different from early war examples
>>
>>28668145

assuming
>high quality

russian capture about $600-$800

no russian capture, reich marks only, a fuckload.

quality really didnt go down, only real difference is early war models had no sight hood, which i prefer.

you'd probably be thrown in jail for owning it based purely on the "dont do anything that even slightly resembles nazis" law
>>
>>28668363
I dont think that would be the problem, since there are no NS insignias on it (wearing old medals is a problem indeed). But there are so many restrictions to owning the gun (not even using it) that it is virtually impossible to legally own it

i read the thread and it looks like you need another semi auto. someone suggested an m1 garand, but its a wayyyy over rated service rifle. its too heavy to want to carry it too long, its too long to weild effectively indoors, it recoils like hella (thats not an "owee it hurts" recoil thats a "holy shit this thing kicks too hard how can i double tap anything" recoil) its ammo capacity is weird and ineffecient, it can have trouble with modern ammunition (newer ammo is hotter and can cause excessive wear) and when youre done shooting its a pain in the ass to have to look around in the grass for your clip

go get an m1 carbine, it did everything the plastic and alumium of the m16 was supposed to do but with good old walnut and steel.

>tl;dr m1 carbine
>>
>>28667983
I have the RCBS Rok Chucked and it's great for the volume I use. Great to learn on and even if you upgrade to a progressive press you can still keep it for your smaller volume calibers.

I don't have a Lee or any experience with one, but I've not heard any negatives about them.

>>
>>28669662
Interesting, what does C&R mean specifically? I've just spent a bit reading about it, but what exactly does it entail? I've only been able to get that normal rules don't apply, but I haven't been able to find a list of the rules that DO apply.

Unsurprisingly, the ATF's website was of little help.
>>
>>28670542

>apply for C&R
>costs $30
>basically just do a lot of paperwork
>get guns shipped to your doorstep

To be recognized as C&R items, 478.11 specifies that firearms must fall within one of the following categories:

Firearms which were manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas of such firearms;

Firearms which are certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; and

Any other firearms which derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or because of their association with some historical figure, period, or event.

So I walked out of a gun show with a M1917 Enfield for $550. How'd I do?
>>
>>28670576
>Any other firearms which derive...

This is the main part that didn't seem to be clarified, i.e. what is "substantial" and fucking everything is associated with a historical period, etc.

I assume this is one of those things that was written in as a loophole for someone with lots of cash that doesn't apply to us poor folk, but seriously, the wording of this law basically allows literally everything.
>>
>>28670642

its one of the three categories listed. pretty sure the most important is 50 years or older and youre good to go, there is a lsit of all the C&R eligible guns too IIRC

Why do you need police approval? Is that a state law? Fed regs say: inform your chief LEO, so I wrote a letter to Sheriff.

Yeah all you legally need is to notify them.
