Why make it a gender thing? She was someone used to operating within strict rules and regulations, so when she got saddled with a bunch of guys who make their own rules and effectively ignore the law that she has spend her whole career holding as a virtue, she couldn't handle it. Add to it that she was fed a bunch of bullshit about making a difference when she was actually just there so they could operate on US soil. It wouldn't have been any different if she were a male FBI agent AFAIC.
>>
>>28664388
One of my favorite movies, mostly because of the lack of bullshit portrayal of CIA and operators.
>>
>>28664388
Problematic. Alejandro used a pistol caliber carbine.
Great movie though, rented it on demand last night and the cinematography and score do an amazing job of depicting the American southwest.
This coming from someone whose family's ranch is on the Texas border and has a fetish for the American southwest.
I hope this group remakes the Cormac McCarthy border trilogy.

I agree. The score alone felt very dreadful and melancholy.

Funny thing is, if you watch any of the extras, the director wanted to film it on location in Juarez, but they were told they couldn't because it was too fucking dangerous. So they filmed it in Mexico City for all the scenes in Juarez.

My biggest problems with it are how quickly people went down at the end being shot by handguns and how quiet the suppressor made the gun, still an amazing movie
>>
>>28665724
If you're using subsonic ammunition than suppressors really are that quiet.
>>
Remembers producer Basil Iwanyk, "When we decided to go to Juarez, we couldn't find one American law enforcement agency to give us the official go-ahead to go across the border. We went with a Mexican 'fixer' who had successfully brought a CNN crew into Juarez a few years ago, and he contacted a bunch of undercover federales who drove us around. They carried submachine guns in the front of the car and told us very specific things like, I should bring glasses with me, since I wore contact lenses, just in case we got stopped and kidnapped. We drove a white SUV because only the cartel guys drive black SUVs and if you drive a black SUV you can get targeted."

During six intense hours, the scouting group was only allowed out of the vehicle twice.

Iwanyk recalls, "We were shadowed by a white Mustang because we were there too long, but the trip made the movie for us. We understood what Juarez was. It really coagulated Denis's vision. The thing that strikes you about Juarez is that life goes on - there are kids playing ball there, there are people going on with their daily business - but at the same time there's this overhanging veil of darkness and crime."

I wouldn't have believed it either but my uncle bought one for CZ P-07. With regular ammunition the noise is the crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier. Using subsonic all you can hear is the action of the pistol.

Kate genuinely annoyed me. I know that the guys were all seasoned military, but it must have taken all their discipline to not frag her.

How common is that kind of arrogance among federal agents IRL? I've talked to a few cops and they hate it when the feds get involved.
>>
>>28669297
To be fair, she was being used solely to avoid public outcry (not to mention bait), and what they were doing was pretty scummy.

And she didn't really assert herself. Half the movie was her asking "whats going on?"

Think about it man, they had go through all these little loopholes in law and torture and shit to install a new cartel.

Although I agree she was a tactical liability.
>>
>>28669394

It was the way she and DEA guy did it, though. In Brolin's words "you went running to daddy, and we don't want daddy to know everything."

The bit where she starts trying to arrest Del Toro hit me in particular.

You're in the middle of a raid on the fucking cartel, and you fuck off to somewhere else. You stumble upon a spook controlling a situation and your first thought is "hey, that's against the law"?

Fair enough. But my complaints of the character overall still stand: we've got an idealistic federal agent whose experience pales to the men she's supposed to be supervising. Since she takes things as honestly as possible, she firmly believes she has a place there beyond signing the paper at the end, which is not the case.

Most operators (Army Side)I've come into contact with were pretty lean dudes. Met a Captain once who was 5' nothing, and stocky as hell, but that's about it. Now most SEALs condone powerlifting because the muscle mass insulates their bodies for SCBA and SDV.

Read Eric Haney's book, Inside Delta Force, and look at his photographs at 27- skinny as hell, with giant BCGs. He personifies "dweeb," but I still wouldn't fuck with him.

Body composition varies widely between branches, and has to do with that certain units mission capability/requirement. CAG dudes ruck 40 days straight with a single stripped MRE per day during selections alone. Up to 40 miles a day.
